It’s no secret that we don’t live in a perfect world. We each want to see the world in our own utopia, but this is something that’s hard to achieve. Over the years, leaders have tried to battle international issues that pose a threat or may do in the near future. There are many issues that decision-makers are trying to fix like education, poverty, global warming and so on, but the one issue that I believe decision makers confront today is the rise of extremist groups around the world. It has been a problem for a long time and the efforts made to decrease or put an end to it have been made, but they’re still going and today they’ve become a much bigger international issue, because they’re becoming more powerful and more threat than they’ve ever been. In addition, the safety and well-being of the people are in danger and more countries have been targeted . …show more content…
In the second part, I will be providing you with ways in which international leaders could cope with this issue in order to maintain international stability in the near future. What are extremist groups? They are a group of people who interpret values, ideas, and beliefs different from what society considers being normal. They usually use violence as a tactic to prove their point. In addition, they see their acts as ‘freedom fighting’ for what they see as the right approach, but society considers their actions to be acts of terrorism. Today, the most notable example of an extremist group is ISIS, whom has been launching attacks in Europe, Iraq, Egypt, Syria, and U.S and along with nineteen other countries. Other examples of extremist groups are Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, Muslim Brotherhood, and Haqqani
The main people targeted for hatred and violence are Jewish people, Hispanics, Asians, blacks and people who are Catholic Christians. The more well-known groups are the Ku Klux Klan, the Neo-Nazis, and the Skinheads. The reason why the Ku Klux Klan is separate from the Neo-Nazis and the Skinheads is because the Ku Klux Klan's hatred and violence is aimed more towards blacks rather than the Neo- Nazis and the Skinheads, whose hatred is aimed more towards the Jewish people. The Neo-Nazis, sometimes called White Aryan Resistance, is a group that follows under Adolph Hitler's philosophies, which targets Jewish people. Unlike the Ku Klux Klan, the Skinheads do not join because they believe in the cause.
In Arthur Miller’s classic play The Crucible, the true events of Salem, Massachusetts in the late seventeenth century are written down with marginal changes to the original story. The witch hunt and witch trials that occurred during this time reflect many of Miller’s personal beliefs on certain themes. One such theme was extremism. Due to Miller’s own personal witch trial where he was unfairly tried and jailed as a communist during the Red Scare, his perspective on extremism is a valuable insight into the historical examples such as the Holocaust or other genocides, and what is happening in modern day with extreme religious groups willing to terrorize other nations. Throughout his play, Arthur Miller argues through certain events and characters that extremism is caused by unaddressed
Throughout the 20th Century, the world was engulfed in global conflicts, engaging in one war after the next. When looking at these different conflicts, interconnected themes and issues seemed to lead to the later conflicts. The first of the conflicts to affect the globe was the Great War. Since the Great War, numerous conflicts have followed including World War II, The Cold War, and eventually the War on Terror. These wars share similar goals and themes of gaining power and prestige, seeking revenge, and fighting ideologies. Each of these conflicts results in events that eventually lead to the next conflict, creating near constant warfare around the globe. The effects and fears created by these conflicts can still be seen today as we fight
Right now, there are many active hate groups in the United States such as the Ku Klux Klan, Neo-Nazi, Skinheads, Christian identity, Black Separatists, etc. These hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan, which is one of America’s oldest and more feared, use violence and move above the law to promote their different causes. Another example is a group called Christian Identity, who describes a religion that is fundamentally racist and anti-Semitic; and other are the Black Separatist groups, who are organizations whose ideologies include tenets of racially based hatred. Because of the information gathered by the Intelligence Project from hate groups’ publications, citizen’s reports, law enforcement agencies, field sources and news reports, many people know about these hate groups. Many people know how these groups act and think and most of the American people agree that these hate groups are immoral and should not be allowed to exist neither in the United States nor on the rest of the world.
Some are well known, such as the KKK or Nazi’s, but there are other groups that are not as popular with the public. Black separatists are said to be a group of people that “believe they can never optimally advance socially, politically and economically in a white-dominated society, believing that whites are inherently evil and oppressive and will never treat blacks as equals. ”(Chiedozie, Anjus) Some think black separatists are anti-white and anti-Semetic, which means the discrimination against white people and Jewish people. The Nation of Islam is a good example of a black separatist group.
The devistatding 9/11 attacks in America, causeds 3,000 people to die in the three different locations ("9-11 and Its Aftermath"). Thereir remained a total of four planes with hijackers. Two of them flew into the twin towers. The goal of this was to attack the world trade center; a and an location that was important to the U.S.America. Another plane flew to the Boston World Trade Complex. The last plane went to Pentagon in Washington D.C.("9/11 Commission"). This is exactly what the islamic extremist terrorist wanted. What is an islamic extremist? They believe that violence is escapable to achieving their goals at all costs. It can be assumed that past tensions are to blame for this disastrous event. With this along with past tensions spiked
The search of terrorist groups has impacted many people's lives. It is just like a new witch craft hunt because those groups caused terror among a lot of people in different countries, including the country that we live in. what kind of connection does The Crucible has with the war on terror? It represents a new witch craft trial, but this time with guns. The Crucible and example of the war on terror that we live today. What kind of connection does the Crucible has with the fight on war and terror and the hunt of terrorist groups.
In Module one, I learned that terrorism is a result of physical harm or deadly acts of force with the intent of a political outcome by the use of terror for coercion. There are various types of terrorism such as international terrorism and domestic terrorism. International terrorism occurs outside of the United States with a purpose to influence the policy of a government by intimidation. International and Domestic terrorism both involve violent acts dangerous to human life that violate federal and state laws. Domestic terrorism occurs within the United States with the intention of coercion or intimidation by way of mass destruction, etc. Some forms of terrorism include Improvised explosive devices (IED), kidnappings, suicide bombings and
The threat of global terrorism continues to rise with the total number of deaths reaching 32,685 in 2015, which is an 80 percent increase from 2014 (Global Index). With this said, terrorism remains a growing, and violent phenomenon that has dominated global debates. However, ‘terrorism’ remains a highly contested term; there is no global agreement on exactly what constitutes a terror act. An even more contested concept is whether to broaden the scope of terrorism to include non-state and state actors.
Extremism manifests itself dangerously in the Islam religion (Palmer, Monte, and Princess Palmer, 37). The Muslim religion has some laws and believes that no one should question their design, origin or application. Good people should punish immoral people in Islam religion without showing mercy to them. In Islam, human beings have no right to offer forgiveness to others that can easily lead to and create peace to oneself in the society. The unforgiving nature makes human rights groups in many ways try to change and support governments that try to overthrow Muslim extremist governments. Such an approach creates a war never ending between the Muslim governments and other governments that fight the extremist ideals. In East Africa, Somalia presents a case example by observing how the Government is not able to control the ever fighting and dreadful Al-Shabaab. The “Al-Shabaab” is an Arab name for Muslim youth who over the years try to use enforce extremist rulers in governing the country and hence controlling the resources. Muslim fighters and rebels arm themselves with arsenals they use to fight groups that oppose them by killing and torturing them. The al-Shabaab launches attacks that kill people and openly claim responsibility for the losses and the deaths they cause. They also punish members who commit sin using the retrogressive laws of the Quran on the people they label sinners. Other extremist
I enjoyed reading your post. Although the theories that were covered this week attempt to explain us the process of radicalization, in my opinion, I think that each case will be different because the combination of factors will be different in each case. Many homegrown terrorists are radicalized due to jihad or misleading interpretation of Islam, while other homegrown terrorists are not religious at all and have other motives. However, the main factors that are usually found in most cases is crisis and deprivation. When someone is going through a crisis or deprivation, that is the most vulnerable moment in which a person is at risk of becoming radicalized. I think it is very hard for law enforcement to prevent someone from becoming radicalized
Terrorist groups are created when a person disagrees with the laws, or to target a specific group of people, and to gain financial stability or just to kill. These groups claim to be standing up for their own beliefs and the beliefs of their country. Some terrorists even try to overthrow their government. A terrorist acts upon a cause of belief in resolving their disagreements by taking matters into their own hands. They will impose the most unbearable harm upon others to gain attention and to get the results they want. For instance, the ISIS group is a terrorist group that has been around for many years, causing injury and death to many people. Their primary purpose is to destabilize the Syrian

To be a fundamentalist is to wholly believe in the doctrine they are preaching or professing and will go to any lengths possible to have these beliefs implemented by their government, (even using force or violence) (Garner, Ferdinand and Lawson, 2007, p. 149). All religions have a fundamentalist element, however, there is more of a significant conflict between Islamic fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists. It is wrongly thought fundamentalism is exclusively linked to Islamic fundamentalists such as the jihadi group al-Qaeda. Nonetheless, Christianity is the world's largest religion and is bound to have some fundamentalist component such as the Christian New Right in the United States of America (Garner, Ferdinand and Lawson, 2007, p. 150)....
