Rise and Fall of Empires throughout Time

Many empires have risen and fallen from the beginning of human origins, they all have mutual features that led to their success. The river valley of Ancient Egypt in Northern Africa thrived from 3200 BCE to 1640 BCE. Right above that The Ancient Greece empire began in 750 BCE and ended in 338 BCE. The Aksum empire started its reign in 100 CE and ended in 750 CE. All three of these empires rose and fell because of geography, which demonstrates how geography truly is the mother of history. The river valley of Ancient Egypt had plentiful resources and a stable river that delivered steady supply of silt. Ancient Greece had control over the sea and land that led them to great prosperity. The Aksum empire was an economic powerhouse because of its strategic location and resources. These three prosperous societies all owed their success to one thing, geography.

Geography affected the River Valley of Ancient Egypt in many ways. The flooding of the Nile River left behind a rich black silt along its river banks, that was used for farming. The Nile River was very predictable and flooded every year from June to September. This lead to a food surplus and a stable society. Also, it was easy to travel on the Nile which helped King Mene unify Egypt for the first time in 3100 BCE. Egypt had the best natural boundaries of all the river valleys. They were surrounded by the Saharan desert to the east, west, and south. To the north lay only the Mediterranean Sea. This lead to protection from attackers. Egypt had bountiful natural resources. They had gold, metals, stone and salts. But they lacked fine wood. There resources gave them the ability to trade away some of their resources for what they lacked. ...hich they used for building structures like canals to channel water from mountain streams to the fields. The civilization of Aksum lasted over 800 years and the center of a massive trading empire which flourished in wealth.

The river valley of Ancient Egypt had abundant resources and an established river that delivered steady supply of fertile soil. The ancient Greek civilization had influence over the sea and land that led them to great prosperity. The Aksum empire was an economic center because of its strategic location and resources. These three societies may have been very different from one another but they all shared one thing in common, their utilization of the geographic resource provided which the used to each become great societies.These civilization were all great in their own ways and all had many achievements that made them remembered forever.
