The smell of Puerto Rican filled the summer air as kids ran wildly through the jungle gym on a hot summer’s day in 2000. Everybody I knew was at my birthday party that day. All but one person never showed up and till this day I can remember who actually did show up, he’s the man that changed my life.

So when it came to understanding who my mother was dating or if my biological father was come home, it was just too much for a kid to take in at such a young age that I just accept that I have one dad and he isn’t around.
