Photography is a rewarding career that allows for creativity and it has a broad history involving many different types of cameras that enable the world to be remembered and seen through many viewpoints. It is the process or art of producing images or objects on sensitized surfaces by the chemical action of light. The first camera came out in 1888 and the first photographer was Joseph Niepce Who was a inventor (Tolmachev).
The first camera was invented in the 1500’s, it was called the obscura. “ In the 1600’s the length of the camera was reduced by 2 feet” (History of camera's). Lens was placed over some holes in the camera to make the image larger and sharper. The first role of film was used by light sensitivity and gelatin coated over paper and the picture would appear on the paper. Scientist made some improvements from the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s, they invented a method that make developing film a lot easier. The scientists also increased the light sensitivity and lens in the film (History of camera's).
Today’s cameras are a lot different from the cameras in the 1500’s; Camera’s these days can take a photo automatically. Polaroid disposable camera’s can take instant pictures and can be developed within the matter of seconds. Photography is used for everything and everyone, for example; “A camera attached to a telescope can let people study planets and space” (History of camera's). Average people can use cameras for vacations, events, work, and medical research. The camera can be used in different ways and many different can have different reasons for using the camera (History of camera's).

The camera with the new technology has enhanced photos on so many different levels. Inventors have lead the way for new inventions and different types of photos to be created. Without the accomplishments of physicians and inventors the camera and its functions would not be as advanced as they are today.

The idea of taking pictures started some thirty-one thousand years ago when strikingly sophisticated images of bears, rhinoceroses, bison, horses and many other types of creators were painted on the walls of caves found in southern France. George Baker is an American art historian who is mainly known for his writings on photography. He is still alive and is employed as a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles and an editor of the journal October. Baker studied his undergrad at Yale and got his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has five different publications. Cameras go way back to the year 1879, and have advanced greatly throughout the years. They used to be huge and bulky with all kinds of attachments and stands. Now they are so small and thin that they are put in everyday items that we use, for instance, cell phones and laptops. Backs then cameras were less than $40 and they were made with glass that was 6.5 by 8.5 inches thick (Patti). Now in this time of age, cameras can go from a few hundred bucks to thousands of dollars depending on the camera, and they are much smaller with clearer pictures now. In the nineteenth century, the innovation and invention of new technology took off. More inventions and innovation came out of the nineteenth century up until World War I than any other time period in history. From the concept of time, the improvement of transportation, and even the telephone; the camera has definitely made its mark in history. In 1839, the camera had gradually become the new major medium used in the nineteenth century. It was the invention that changed artwork and gave everyone a new way to represent itself to the world. Gay-Lussac called it “a new art form in a new civilization.” Photography represented Paris in three major ways. The new technology influenced a new way of painting where the artist began capturing their subjects in action versus a still portrait pose. And with the Daguerreotype being available to everyone in the public, it was becoming easy to travel to Paris for events. The industrial revolution created the societal circumstances necessary for photography to be born. The first and most obvious condition is that of technological advancement. Industry was advancing and expanding so rapidly that history appeared to be distancing itself from the present with unusual speed. Up until this time period life had not changed much from decade to decade or even from century to century. Photography’s popularity during the industrial revolution was, in large part, a result of people’s desire to slow down the perceived acceleration of history (McQuire). The idea for photographing came around in 1814 when Joseph Niépce wanted an image of his son before he left for war. He succeeded in making the first camera in 1827, but the camera needed at least eight hours to produce one picture. Parisian Louis Daguerre invented the next kind of camera in 1839, who worked with Niépce for four years. His camera only needed fifteen to thirty minutes to produce a picture. Both Niécpe’s and Daguerre’s cameras made pictues on metal plates. In the same year Daguerre made his camera, an Englishman by the name of William Henry Fox Talbot made the first camera that photographed pictures on paper. The camera printed a reverse picture onto a negative and chemicals were needed to produce the photo up right.
