As an intern at Goodwill Industries, I am a part of the resource center as a resource service assistant. I have several task right now until the second week of March. The position that I hold now ties into the other areas at Goodwill. I help clients with their computer skills. Many times people have come into the resource center and are experiencing being on the computer for the first time, some have taken the basic computer class at Goodwill, yet are not comfortable making a cover letter or resume. I help them in these areas. I also help them with email set up and sometimes I am there to listen to them tell their stories.
My learning objectives are geared towards helping them feel that each small task that they complete at the resource center

You have to address them individually and realize that their needs are individualized as well. I found out that in order to be an effective helper in the Goodwill industry, you have to meet the client where they are. Some are experiencing computer skills for the first time, some need to find sources that will get them on the right track such as GED courses, and some might just need a job to support their family. I realized that each time someone comes through the resource center doors, they are important and their needs …show more content…
I here that I am patient and pleasant to be around. We have talked about my future and just recently she said that she wants me around for a very long time. I feel good interning at Goodwill. It is not always easy dealing with so many different personalities and attitudes that come in to seek help, but it is rewarding to know that what I do is a service to others. I make it a point to come dressed professionally and well groomed. My supervisor complements me in that area. She admires my hard work and effort. I appreciate her professionalism and

Internships completed by students in certain degree programs are quite popular in most colleges and universities. An internship is used so classroom based learning in a degree program can be applied to practical situations in the real world (Jordan, Burns, Bedard & Barringer, 2007). When students are placed with an agency, there is a real possibility that a portion of students will witness actions they believe is unethical or illegal. During a study conducted within four universities, many students that participated in an internship program within the criminal justice system reported that they had observed behavior they suspected to be illegal behavior for a law enforcement agency. (Jordan et al. 2007). Due to this ongoing problem, colleges
Old Navy is an American clothing and accessories company owned by the corporation Gap Inc. As holiday season approaches, retail stores such as Old Navy hire thousands of seasonal workers to keep speed with the millions of shoppers who are expected to hit the stores during the holiday season. Nearly two days after applying, I got called for an interview then hired for the seasonal position, this not only made me realize that this opening will lead me to gain some experience in retail, but also made me realize that in a way I will be joining a new community and will be part of a team that strives to create an environment that is functional enough
Some of the limitations that I felt myself come across is that as an intern I was not able to follow up with my case load as much as I would have wanted. For one, my program is outpatient community based, meaning most of my interactions were at his home with a social worker because we are not allowed to use government vehicles to make home visits. This was difficult because I was not able to gain full rapport with my client because there was always an extra set of eyes that was also interfering with the process of rapport building. My other limitation was that I was only available two days a week which made it hard for me to be there as his case manager given the fact that he was in crisis a couple of times.
I began, initially at CSM, as a volunteer archives assistant, learning how best to organise, accession and catalogue items in the collection. I have proven myself to be a committed, capable and reliable intern, and am responsible for assisting the curator and senior members of staff with their activities and

As the facilitator of the group my job is to show students where to look but not what to see (Alexandra K.Trenfor).
There are many attributes to being an effective helper. An effective helper, in essence, should be genuinely caring, have a calm manner, have a sense of humor, be a clear thinker, be highly dependable, honest, use common sense, be objective and not subjective, be self-confident, be self-aware, have a positive attitude toward life, have respect for others, exhume warmth, show flexibility and openness (Mental Health of Refugees, 1996). These are the basic characteristics of an effective helper. Above all, an effective helper must completely respect the persons they are trying to help, no matter what their values and beliefs are (Burger, 2011). You must recognize the differences between you and the person you are helping, and you must respect these differences (Mental Health of Refugees, 1996). An effective helper should not be the judge of another person’s life, but think of it as being invited to or asked to help a person. The helper should empathize with the person they are helping and not assume that they know how a person feels. The helper should understand that each person is u...

First, understanding that children may have a preferred learning style, she incorporates into her lesson plans the strategies which address visual learners, kinesthetic learners, and audio learners. Most children do not have just one learning style, therefore, they benefit through different learning centers. Learning centers include the science center, the math center, the art center, the library, the writing center, and the dramatic play center. Next, she uses teacher centered strategies to lead many of her lesson plans so that she can guide and coach the children through the activities. Since the children are very young, she feels modeling and coaching the children are the most productive techniques. She does try to create lesson plans that vary in complexity and challenge the children based on their own ability
Acknowledging and facilitating individual needs with resources that enrich the learning process. This could be attained by taking the classroom and the learning outside, to another classroom either in person or via Skype, inviting community members into the classroom to share information and to participate with children in the activities and learning opportunities (Claiborne, Morrell, Bandy & Bruff, 2014).
The quarter has finally come to an end, and with that, I close out my internship and this class that went along with it. It was a great experience and I leave equipped with a new set of skills that are preparing me for the world ahead. As I write this reflection paper, I think back to the very first week when I set up two goals for myself to focus on and hope to achieve throughout the following weeks. My first goal was to develop a better understanding of myself within the work place, and my second was to develop a strong network to jumpstart my career. Both of my goals were achieved, however, I don’t feel that either of my goals will ever be complete. I believe that you can always formulate a better understanding of yourself, and you can always network to develop a stronger tree of connections. I know for a fact, however, that I reached satisfaction with both of my goals at this internship at MKI and know whole-heartedly that I did everything in my power to exhaust my resources in
Goals - My goals for my internship at the Rockford Center include: becoming more familiar with Social Workers in Rockford and also in other settings, learning how to interview patients on my own with confidence, learning how to execute the discharge process of patients independently without having to ask my supervisor for assistance, becoming more familiar with adolescents and being mindful of their feelings, being more patient with myself, learning how to create boundaries with patients and lastly being more assertive in the workplace. Since I am a visual learner, I believe that I can meet these goals by watching my supervisor when she interviews patients, when she takes notes during the interviews, as well as when she fills out the appropriate paperwork for each case. I also learn by simply doing tasks on my own as well. Thus, it is very useful for me when my supervisor tells me what she needs done and challenges me to remember the appropriate protocol for each task.
This paper focuses on the personal experiences gained from the internship while supporting the functions of Human Resources (HR) at the University of Texas at El Paso. The HR department provides a variety of services to all Staff, Faculty and Student employees. Throughout the internship, knowledge and skills have been obtained in the specific area of employment and recruitment. Personal experiences such as; conducting criminal background checks, and E-verify reports which verifies an employee’s eligibility to work in the United States were the typical daily functions of the internship. Interning in the HR department has presented exceptional opportunities that will help fine tune practical skills and gain professional experience while pursuing an undergraduate degree
