Research methodologies are critical elements in research since it determines the type of finding at the end of the research. This paper critically outlines the different research approaches applied in academic journal articles. It includes; 1) a quantitative research approach which involves the collection and conversion of the data into the numerical forms to allow room for the statistical calculation and conclusion, 2) the qualitative research approach that involves recording, analyzing and even endeavoring to uncover a deeper meaning and the significance of the human experience and behavior (William & Laurence, 1989, p. 135), that uses inductive reasoning, that develop a theory of meaning based on the data collected and 3) the pragmatic approach which involves mixing methods and techniques which best suits the research problems under the study. It is class of research in which the researchers mix qualitative and quantitative concepts, methods, languages and techniques into one study.






















Introduction
Research can be defined as the process of answering questions or creating the questions which does not currently exist. In a number of ways research can be defined as the process of taking steps to expand the boundaries of ignorance, since the person who believe that he/she knows everything does not only shows arrogance, but also ignorance.
It is through research that people are able to reveal the unknown since everything that we currently know were discovered through research. Therefore, without research people would now be homeless, penniless and naked, besides, we would not be able to read the book (Goddard & Melville, 2004, p. 2). It is only the pragmatic approach which makes use of the advantages of quantitative and qualitative approach so the researchers should consider using this approach in their research (Charles & Abbas, 2006; Dallas & Martin, 2007, p. 58) as it indicates extraordinary guarantee ( Molina-Azorı & Pereira-Moline, 2012, p. 448). Some of the important factors which need to be emphasized in any research processes include proper testing of data for accuracy, correct perception and scientific aptitude. It is through choosing the appropriate research approach that one would be able to achieve the needed accuracy which is a must for all academic research projects (Dallas & Martin, 2007). Research approaches provide the guidance needed to deal with some of the difficult decisions which must be made in the course of the research.
