The Renewable Energy That’s Not Talked about
We hear talk about renewable energy all the time, and how, what options are when it comes to renewable energy. There is one kind of energy that is rarely never talks about. That is Geothermal Energy. Geothermal Energy makes up less than 1% of energy used in America. Why is that when renewable energy is the fad, most people are saying how they want to switch over to renewable energy, but never mention one that is so useful and easy to obtain. The reason I believe why it’s not mention as much as solar or wind power is that most people don’t know what it is or how it can even be consider a renewable energy. That’s what I plan to explain in this paper, what is Geothermal Energy, how can it be used, what it cost to install, and any problems that it could be caused by switching to Geothermal Energy.
First off, what is Geothermal energy. It is the “Natural heat within the Earth, arises from Earth’s core, from friction along continental plate boundaries and from the decay of radioactive elements” (Hassenzah, Hager, Berg, 18). After reading this, so many questions have formed. If heat is created by the friction of the plates, then can you only get this energy where the plates meet? That is a no, you can use this form of energy anywhere in the world. To put it in a way that is easier to understand. There is a lay on the Earth that freezes over, but when you digger a little deep. According to Renewable Energy World you only have to dig 10 feet down to reach where the Earth keeps a steady temperature. That temperature is about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you get to that level you can start using the Earth heat as an energy source. In simple term, Geothermal Energy is using the heat of the Earth t...

... have some problems, such as cost, low efficiency, and the potential for Earthquakes, which all don’t sound that amazing after thinking about it.
We are constantly talking about new ways to produce energy, ways that won’t affect the Earth as much as natural gases, coal, and nuclear energy. People are talking about how wind and solar are the new energy for the future. I feel that we are not looking deep enough, and by that, I mean underground. There is so much potential energy underground that we have not looked at. We are so busy look at the sky to even look below us. That’s the reason why I wrote about Geothermal Energy is to open our eyes to other options, we are so busy trying to get solar and wind power to work, that we don’t think about other options. That was the purpose of this paper, to open our eyes to more than what we can see. There is more than skin deep

Renewable Energy: Solar Power Essay

- Solar power is one of the most renewable sources of electricity in the world. The sun shines almost every day, therefore providing photons to power the solar panels for as long as the sun still shines. It can lower your electric bills to a miniscule amount and it’s very friendly towards the environment. Did you know that scientists at the German Fraunhofer Institute broke the world record for the most efficient solar cell. Their design uses a new cell structure containing four solar sub cells to become 44.7% efficient....   [tags: energy, photons, electricity]

Energy Sources For Renewable Energy Essay

- Renewable energy sources have been found to cost more than the benefits that are received from the energy sources. There are many different resources that you can use including water, wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. These energy sources can differ in cost depending on capital, fuel, and operations and maintenance. Some of these sources are not cheap to build but once they are up and running, they have no fuel cost. There are many reasons to determine when, where, or how an energy source is used....   [tags: Wind power, Renewable energy, Solar energy]

Essay on Solar Energy

- Solar Energy There is a bright future for solar power (no pun intended). On the average sunny day the sun shines approximately 1,000 watts of energy per square meter, enough energy to power all of our electricity needs and excess(“How”). This plethora of power and will be utilized in the future because we can't afford not to. It is predicted that in 100-500 years our fossil fuels will be depleted: this means that alternative sources of energy will be a necessity (Exxon). We consider solar power a renewable resource because it is conitinuosly supplied to us by the sun....   [tags: Renewable Energy, Solar Power, Environment]

Renewable Energy : Solar Energy Essay

- Renewable energy is energy that comes from a natural source of activity on Earth that is not depleted when used. There are a few sources of renewable energy sources that humans have put into use since the twentieth century; solar energy, hydroelectric energy also known as hydropower, and wind energy. According to National Geographic, “Solar energy is the technology used to harness the sun 's energy and make it useable” (Solar Energy 5). Today from all of the energy humans use about one-tenth of the energy comes from solar power....   [tags: Fossil fuel, Wind power, Renewable energy]

The Alternative Energy Source to Oil Essay

- The Alternative Energy Source to Oil Introduction 1.0     “Renewable Energy” is the term used to describe those energy flows that occur naturally and repeatedly in the environment, e.g. from the sun, wind and the oceans, and from plants and the fall of water. It also refers to the energy available from wastes and to the emerging clean technology of fuel cells. There are wide ranges of renewable energy sources/technologies, varying in technical and commercial viability. These include: •     Solar Power (Photovoltaic) •     Hydro – electric Power •     Hydrogen Fuel Cells •     Geothermal •     Wind Power •     Nuclear Power 1.1     The modern drive to harness renewable energy began in t...   [tags: Renewable Energy Solar Power Essays]

Business : The Simple Trade Era Essays

- Long before the word ‘business’ aroused, human started to trade anything useful and readily made by nature with one another, known as ‘the simple trade era’. Because of no need of production, people were not very much aware of the sustainability of their trading or say, business activities. However, due to the explosive growth of population and the increasing scarcity of resources, we, as human, are now forced to reconsider the way we conduct business activities. To be more precise, how to elongate the business cycle and how to achieve sustainability....   [tags: Sustainability, Solar power, Renewable energy]

Renewable Sources Of Energy Such As Wind Or Solar Essay

- As I progressed through this assignment, I realized that I did not use any renewable sources of energy such as wind or solar. Most of my energy was sourced from the use of fossil fuels, with the primary source for heating my home being natural gas and as I researched further, I found that my electricity source was provided by the Martin Drake Power Plant located in Colorado Springs. This is a 254 megawatt coal-fired power plant and provides 1/3 of the electricity to Colorado Springs (Colorado Springs Utilities, 2016)....   [tags: Fossil fuel, Wind power, Renewable energy]
