Alternative Energy

“If we put all our energy and resources into continued fossil fuel extraction, we will have lost an opportunity to have invested in renewable energy.” ( David Suzuki )

The past few decades, alternative energy has increasingly replaced the utilization of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are composed from decayed plants and animals that are converted to crude oil, coal, and natural gas. As a source of energy fossil fuels are finite and have many negative side-effects, some of which include: incremented levels of carbon dioxide, output of toxic substances, heat-trapping gases that cause global warming, and by-products that pollute water-supply.

Controversy exists over the best alternative to fossil fuels. However, the general public widely agrees that replacements need to be utilized. The main sources of alternative energy are solar and wind power, as well as geothermal, hydroelectric, and biomass. Geothermal energy is the power generated from steam, hydroelectric energy is produced by water from dams, and biomass is the energy stored within plants that is burned to release this energy. These types of energy sources are mostly renewable - they can’t be used up, and don’t produce the negative side-effects of fossil fuels. When comparing different sources of alternative energy, wind energy is the best because it is clean, efficient, and cost-effective.

Wind power is produced when large turbines are built with spinning propeller-like blades around a rotor. The energy in the wind turns these blades that are connected to the rotor and main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity. This electricity is transferred through wires used to power ...

... to understand that other alternative energy sources have worse negatives associated with them and that wind power has the most potential of all alternative energy sources. Without proper knowledge our nation will not switch to wind energy as the primary source of energy.

When looking at the topic on a much broader spectrum, it is most essential that we replace fossil fuels with any type of alternative energy source. All alternative energy sources make a positive impact on the environment. Not only that, but they save companies lots of money because fossil fuels are expensive, costing the United States 1.6 trillion dollars in maintenance, new vehicles, and fuel. Despite this, when analyzing all the different types of alternative energy, wind energy remains the best option. Replacing fossil fuels with wind power is something that our country desperately needs.

Renewable or Alternative Energy Resources Essay

- Renewable or alternative energy is very important, but many industry leaders and the public perceive the renewable or alternative energy with a distorted view, without a good understanding of the benefits that will bring. Instead, they only learn that their investment or efforts to implement this new energy resource will be greater than the benefits. So far, these programs had an excellent intention of persuading people to utilize renewable resources for the benefit of all, but are not reaching this goal and are often concealed by the distorted and influenced perspective that they promote....   [tags: US, Educational Programs]

Renewable Energy Is An Alternative For Energy Essay

- With the ever growing increase in population, the demand for energy is increasing every day, and our dependence on non-renewable energy will one day come to an end. Energy is readily available everywhere and can be primarily classified into two principal groups, non-renewable and renewable. Non-renewable energy comes in numerous forms such as coal, oil, natural gas. However, these types of non-renewable energy resources are only available in limited supplies, and once they 're used up, they cannot be replaced....   [tags: Wind power, Wind turbine, Fossil fuel]

Renewable Alternative Energy Sources Essay

- The world needs to start making alternative energy sources more of a priority for a number of reasons. “Alternative energy refers to energy sources that have no undesired consequences such for example fossil fuels or nuclear energy” (“Alternative Energy”). Alternative energy sources collectively only provide about seven percent of the total world energy supply (McLamb). Even though fossil fuels are cheap and plentiful, can help a country’s economy, and can be extracted relatively easily, they have many disastrous effects (“Activity 3 – Fossil Fuels – The pros and cons”)....   [tags: effects, substances, fossil, fuels, nuclear]

Renewable Energy : Alternative Energy Essay

- Energy is a force or work that a physical system is capable of doing in changing from its actual state or form into a different state or form. We use energy in our everyday lives, and people all over the world, big or small, have a use of energy. People, who own a car, have a house, work in a place with light other than fire and sunlight use energy. Even electronics, appliances, hot water, heating or cooling systems use energy. Most of the resources we use for these things are often times harmful to the environment and very expensive because of the nonrenewable aspects many of them possess....   [tags: Wind power, Wind turbine, Fossil fuel]

Essay about Alternative Sources of Renewable Energy

- With a growing population around the world, the need for energy is growing as well. We are accustomed to using fossil fuels as our central source of energy for everyday uses. Fossil fuels are a natural matter that is found in the ground of the Earth formed in a previous time period millions of years ago that are nonrenewable and are used for energy today. Fossil fuels have to be burned in order to produce energy. When nonrenewable resources have been used, they cannot restock themselves or ever be used again....   [tags: Renewable energy, environmentalism, environment]

Essay on Alternative Energy And Renewable Energy

- Alternative energy is energy that is generated in ways that do not harm the environment or deplete natural resources, often by avoiding using fossil fuels or nuclear energy. There are many benefits to using alternative energy other than just being better for the environment. It is renewable, which means that the Earth can naturally replenish it and it can be used again, as long as it does not get used faster than it can be replenished. It is also sustainable, which means it can be used without risking the availability of it for future generations....   [tags: Fossil fuel, Energy development, Solar energy]

Alternative Energy Sources For Renewable Energy Essay

- According to EIA, “Renewable energy accounted for approximately ten percent of total U.S. consumption and thirteen percent of electricity generation in the year 2014.” These alternative energy sources include factors such as wind power, solar power, hydro power, geothermal power, and biomass. These alternative resources provide the Earth with power that is unlimited to the people, and after maintenance as well as building, is basically free. These alternative sources are cleaner for the earth, more cost effective for our economies, and they are not able to be depleted for they are non-renewable sources....   [tags: Wind power, Alternative energy, Fossil fuel]
