Religion has being part of humanity since the begin-ning of time. Religious tendencies have been found from the drawings of prehistoric caves to modern times Neo-paganism. Without a doubt, Christianity has been the strongest, most wide-spread religion in history (Young 1). It is important to mention, though, that Christianity is not the oldest re-ligion in human history. Paganism has been around for thou-sands of years before Christianity even came into exis-tence. There are many similarities between the two, but one ideology they differ on is a woman’s place of leadership in the church.
I was raised Christian, Catholic to be precise. Ca-tholicism does not allow me, a woman, to be ordained as a church leader, nor offers me access to the same knowledge available to male church leaders. As I grew up, I wanted to know more, I wanted be a leader within a church. That’s when I discovered and was baptized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, commonly known as Mormons. Come to find out, they do not allow women in leadership po-sitions either. When I had questions about the doctrine, I was told that “some answers are available only to the lead-ers of the church” (Wallentine), and that I had to take their word on Faith. “This is it”, I said to myself. I, a woman, must be allowed to be ordained as a Mormon church Prophet.
The Mormon Church is a Christian-based church with a living Prophet as the leader. The Prophet, as well as any other high-ranking church leader, is always a man. Accord-ing to the Mormon scriptures “The authority of the priest-hood is only given to the male members of the church…they also perform administrative functions in the church” (Doc-trine and Covenants 176). Christianity is based on events, and ...

...ame to clarify, to shed new light on old, misunderstood scriptures and traditions. The New Testament names a number of women followers of Jesus, and perhaps even disciples. Christ sacrificed himself to give us all, including me, a woman, a path to God. That alone gives me the right to be a Prophet in the Mormon Church, a pope in the Catholic Church, a Pastor in a Protestant Church.
Christianity is based on the teachings of Christ, and
Christ treated men and women as equals, with the same re-
spect. The Mormon Church is denominated Christian; there-
fore, they should follow Christ’s example. The Bible says
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor
free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one
in Christ” (Galatians 3:28). If nothing else, this last
scripture alone establishes the equality of women and men.
Religion Religion can be defined as a system of beliefs and worships which includes a code of ethics and a philosophy of life. Well over 90% of the world 's population adheres to some form of religion. The problem is that there are so many different religions. What is the right religion? What is true religion? The two most common ingredients in religions are rules and rituals. Some religions are essentially nothing more than a list of rules, dos and don 'ts, which a person must observe in order to
Religion can cause severe physical and mental health problems. Certain religions keep individuals from seeking medical help for mental illnesses and physical ailments. Religion can cause extended stress, refusal of conventional medical attention, and avoidant coping. Groups of psychologists have concluded that religious beliefs are congregated into the pathological category. Defining religious beliefs as pathological beliefs is due to it being seen as “a social force that encourages irrational
What does the word religion mean? According to sociologist Emile Durkheim, he defined religion as “A religion is a unified system of beliefs and practices relative to sacred things, that is to say, things set apart and forbidden -- beliefs and practices which unite into one single moral community called a Church, all those who adhere to them” (Jones, n.d.). In today’s society there are many different kinds of religious beliefs. Religious denominations and doctrines vary throughout the world. Some
religious conflict dominates our public conversations, religion has long been a force for unity. Religion is constantly changing. I would like to explore the idea of religion as a community, separating religion as a concept from religion as a practice. Etymologically, “religio” means that which binds together, so to say that religion builds strong communities is somewhat circular. If religion did not have this effect, it would not be religion. But one must still ask if the practices that build up
Throughout the lifespan of the Roman empire, religion and religious rituals were an important part of Roman identity. For many, religion served as more than just a casual system of shared beliefs, but as a dedicated way of life. Religion governed who people associated with, how their day was structured, their adherence to the Roman Empire, and what was deemed as appropriate behavior. Christianity was born during a time of great religious diversity in the Roman Empire, many of the key characteristics

A study of human history reveals the pivotal role religion has played in the lives of people on earth. Religion has existed and survived in almost every human society, from the most ancient to the most modern. The study of mankind cannot be concluded unless it includes the study of his religion, because it has been a very important factor in the lives of many. Today, in an age noticeable with indifferentism and hostility on one side, religious fundamentalism and extremism on the other, it is relevant
history religion has been one of the main focuses of the human species and has caused many conflicts among people. Several wars have been waged on the bases of religion and faith to gain superiority or to claim holy lands. The conventional modern view of religion is that some religions such as Islam actually promote violence rather than peace. This has been a source of controversy for a number of years creating many debates trying to either prove or disprove the notion that it is religion that promotes
The coexistence of religion and science has been a subject of debate in the recent past. This is associated with the fact that, religion is founded on issues beyond common human observation while science is founded on observation. These differences are bound to cause conflict. Apparently, scientists can be religious but at the same time, they separate their profession (founded on observation and reason) from their religious beliefs (founded on what is unobservable and faith). However, when
Religion: In Puerto Rico, the majority of the population, about two-thirds of the inhabitants, are Roman Catholic. This dates back to when the there were Spanish colonies present during the 15th century who were Catholic. Although Catholics hold the majority, Protestants account for one-fourth of the population. Protestants date back to 1898 when missionaries came from the United States to Puerto Rico. Even though Catholics and Protestants hold the majority of the population, the Constitution guarantees
Religions are one of the most traditional and discussion world wide. Youth experiment with delinquency and risky behavior more than other age. During adolescence, their minds are extremely malleable by peers, parents, society and religion. Culture and religion can go hand in with each other, specifically in my own life. Looking back my identity with being Jewish was just as much practicing compared to culturally jewish. The number of people that identify with certain religions change throughout time

Because there is freedom of religion in the United States, all faiths have some sort of impact on the American government. To understand how religion affects the United States government we will have to look back to the formation of America. Religion and politics have always been a hot topic in the States and always will be. It may never be as big of a deal though as it was with our Founding Fathers. Without them and the decisions they made, the America we live in today would be very different.
What Religion Is Religion, although very complex, it is something humankind shares with one another. Each religion may contain different views, or beliefs, but all are used for the same purpose. Religion may be used to make sense of the world surrounding us, for emotional and mental health, or just a way to live life. Religion can be much more than just a daily routine or following a set of rules on how to live life. Religion is faith in a higher or higher powers and it is that belief that influences
Introduction Religion has many classifications, such as tribal, classical, transcendental and cosmological, usually based on one's belief and understandings. Religion also has many definitions, usually based on one's experience. A particular definition that I found was Religion originates in an attempt to represent and order beliefs, feelings, imaginings and actions that arise in response to direct experience of the sacred and the spiritual (Connelly, 1986). Religion also has many characteristics
