THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPIRITUAL GIFTS, TALENTS, AND TRAINING
There is a relationship between spiritual gifts, talents, and training for leadership. It is imperative to know what each one means and that will give one a better understanding of how the 3 relate to each other. Leadership is very demanding and many leaders have not been properly trained for the position they occupy. Because Christians have been put into a position without training, many people lead others without having any hands-on knowledge. The best type of leadership is servant leadership.

On the other hand, in the book, Spiritual Leadership, Oswald Sanders talks about Christians having reservation to aspire to leadership. Many Christians are not convinced that it is biblical sound to desire a leadership role in the church. They questioned whether their ambitions are noble or honorable. An ambition that is centered on God is noble but those that uplift one’s own desire should be questioned. Although Sanders talks about ambition, he describes the shortage of leader in the church. He speaks about Christian’s talents and how it is imperative for them to glorify God with their talents. Spiritual leaders are regarded as gifted/talented people; however, the talents do not make them leaders. The talents may accent their leadership but God is the one that makes spiritual leaders. God is the focal point for spiritual gifts, talents, and training for leadership. The disciples were trained by Jesus. He did not take disciples into a classroom but He taught by examples.9 Many times the disciples were put in situations by Jesus to help them learn on-the-job. Even in missions, leaders cannot be prepared for every circumstance that may arise; however; with his talents, spiritual gifts, and the Holy Spirit, one can have the resources necessary to be successful.
