Today, we are facing a healthcare communication crisis. The relationship between doctor and patient relationship is falling apart. For patient who are not able to make decision for themselves, so they rely on their family members. This puts more stress on doctors, such that patient out number doctors and it prevents them from using their full capacity. Ways to help this cause will be by redefining healthcare to society. To redefine healthcare communication one needs to understand the doctor’s role.

How can we solve this problem? Gail Reed suggest there should be a Medical school open to the world. In Cuba, they tend to give a full ride scholarship for people who are capable of becoming doctors. In the medical school of Havana, 20,000 of doctors graduate annually (Reed). This school teaches to about 86 countries around the world. They come to Cuba to become future physicians for their community. They are from lower income countries who are funded by organization to help their community. As a result, majority of these doctors come from multiple languages, but in return they all get to understand Spanish. Learning Spanish is critical because it’s a language known worldwide. Plus, students around the world come to Milan, Havana with their native country and their native language. People communicate together and learn how to communicate with one language. we need to redefine how society see health care. When people go to a medical center, people try to find the person available for someone health. Of course one will want a doctor to check them out, but majority of the times, people have simple symptoms a nurse can consult. Today society should lesson the stress of work form doctors. One is by notifying people there are others profession who can consult them about their health other than doctors. For example nurses, they are the marine of medicine because they are in the front line of diagnosing patients. Plus nurses are divided into three, Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurses (Lvn), register nurse assistant (RNA) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Luckily, someone does not need to go four years a medical school to become a RNA or a CNA. After, they become an RNA, it takes a couple of semester to become an LVN. Same goes to RN people behind the navy seal. The navy seal are the doctors who conduct the special missions. Other medical specialist can help reduce the work, like pharmacist. Medical stores like CVS, have consultation where someone can ask the pharmacist which medicine they should take if they are feeling such and such. Majority of times, these consultation are simple and they would inform them that the medicine is available to the public. Of course, the higher doses medicine one needs to get a doctor’s prescription but it help reduce
Carol finishes her story with a plea for a better communication among the different healthcare providers and the system in general. There is no perfect system, and health care, the system that constantly evolves, deals with life and death, and employs people to fill such diverse niches is probably the most complex of them all, the most difficult to assess, comprehend, and change. As big, complex, and sometimes scary as it seems, it can be changed: talking to a colleague, taking a moment and asking a patient’s opinion. “Be the change you wish to see in the world”, said Gandhi. This is my motto.
Communication is the key to any successful profession. A lack of understanding due to miscommunication to lead to harming the business causing losses. In the case of a physician – patient relationship it is not just the revenue that is effected but also the health or even life of an individual depends on effective communication where both parties understands each other.
In his book The Silent World of Doctor and Patient, author Jay Katz describes the history of how physicians view the patient’s role in medical decision making. Particularly, within chapter one, “Physicians and Patients: A History of Silence,” Katz sheds light on the relationship between physicians and their patients and the scope of the physician’s authority.
In healthcare one of the major obstacles employees attempt to overcome is the communication gap. The outpatient clinics in particular find it challenging to keep in contact with the hospital. In the healthcare market to have success you must have communication. Romano observed that hospitals are branching out; outpatient setting offer lucrative services that are rendered in a well-situated environment (2006). The outpatient sector is where the profit is made; this is clearly the way of the future. If prospective clinics are to fulfill patient and employees needs, a communication policy must be put into practice. By employing a communication strategy employees will be more productive, more informed, and administration could expect to see enhanced customer service.
Effective communication between patient and clinician is an important aspect to patient care. Proper communication has a direct positive impact on patient care and adversely poor communication has a direct negative impact on patient care. I will define the seven principles of patient-clinician communication and how I apply these communications with my patients. I will also describe the three methods currently being used to improve interdisciplinary communication and the one method that my area of practice currently uses. Then, I will explain the ethical principles that can be applied to issues in patient-clinician communication. And Lastly, the importance of ethics in communication and how patient safety is influenced by good or bad team communication.
When a person is sick, a doctor first needs to diagnose the symptoms to be able to understand the causes of the illness and adequately treat, manage or eradicate the disease. For instance, a doctor cannot arrive at a diagnosis of a patient and say to the patient " you have diabetes" without analyzing the symptoms and explaining how a disease developed, and what lifestyle habits favor the development of its presence.
In health and social care effective communication a key skill all professionals should have when working with families, carers, children and young people. However there are many barriers that can effect how effective the communication is a few examples of these barriers could be: language, personality, visual or auditory impairment or a disability. In order to over come these barriers there have been many advances in the strategies that can help in situations where the communication is not effective, a strategy is a method or a plan that can help someone or something succeed in achieving a goal or result.
Doctors should possess the skills necessary to assess what the patient actually needs contrary to what he/she believes they require. An illness obviously impacts one’s life regardless of how minuscule. A doctor plays a vital role in both the physical condition and the, often over-looked, emotional well-being of his/her patients. I firmly believe that through my experiences in two separate, but fairly similar branches of medicine I have developed the ability to care for those in a compassionate yet professional manner along with the ability comprehend the information necessary that being a health care provider
.2- Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work. Effective communication is vital for the social care worker. If a social care worker wishes to communicate with the service user effectively, he/she must speak clearly and use phrases and sentences that the service user can understand. On the other hand, service users, when communicating to care workers, their managers or other members of staff, should also speak clearly and openly in order to promote an excellent service. Not doing so, could compromise the quality of the service, lead to misunderstanding and therefore, create communication
Without communication, there is no discussion or exchange of idea. This community grows and members gain knowledge only by “active and engaging communication that results in action” (Yamin). Health professionals practice many forms of communication, but there are three important types that every member practices to keep this community functioning. One, they communicate between health facilities and share information. Second, they communicate within their own health facility to provide general care and treatment to the patients. Third, they communicate among one another to provide each individual patient with the care they need. “Communication between physicians, paramedics, and/or nurses must be clear, concise, and contain no ambiguity” (The Analysis of Medical Discourse Community). The patient’s history and care provided need to be accurately documented, either on paper or electronically. It is important that mistakes do not occur in the chain of communication between different medical professionals or it could lead to consequences. These different communication methods work together to make sure a patient receives proper treatment and care.
Communication involves the exchange of information between two or more people. Whether verbal or nonverbal, communication serves as the bridge that allows people to share ideas and thoughts. Clinical professionals converse with patients, relatives, and other professionals daily. Conversely, despite having multiple encounters with patients every day, physicians fail to enact the necessary communication and interpersonal skills to effectively listen, instill confidence, and promote following medical advice in patients.
As a healthcare professional, effective communication is arguably the most important trait to have next to patient care. The ability to communicate efficiently can make or break you as a respected healthcare professional, but even more importantly it can alter the patient’s treatments and the fluid transition from pre hospital to hospital care. Patient advocacy is one of the major keys in communication for a pre hospital caretaker in particular. We as pre hospital personnel need to paint a clear picture of our patient’ condition in order to accurately treat our patients and forewarn the receiving hospital of what they are about to have at their doorstep. In the words of a 10 year mobile intensive care nurse, “the most important aspect of radio contact by the paramedic is the ability to accurately describe what the priority
Mutuality is an important aspect to the effectiveness of patient-centered care, where both the physician and the patient are considered experts regarding the patient’s medical decisions and share their expertise to develop a mutual plan of action (Miller, 2014). Through this model, a patient’s preferences, needs, and values are expected to be considered and respected by the practitioner (Council, Geffken, Valeras, Orzano, Rechisky, & Anderson, 2012). That is why effective patient-practitioner communication is so important, because without it - mutuality cannot be fostered and consequently the patient’s needs are not considered. There are three components that affect effective patient-practitioner communication:

Throughout the last two quarters of Health: A Biopsychosocial Inquiry we have been discussing a lot about the doctor/ patient relationship. What does it look like? How should a doctor treat his or her patient and the patient’s responsibility to their own health care? We have read about parents and what they should or shouldn’t’ do where their child is concerned. We have tackled the issue of the quality of care you receive depending on how much money you have. We have learned about diseases or health care issues and how to take care of the body better, to avoid certain diseases. What can we take from all of what we have learn to help our family and friends with their own doctor/patient relationships?
