Reflections
It is always amazing to be able to stop and take a look back at the experience you have with a class and reflect upon what was learned. In the beginning of each class there are always pre-misconceptions about a class and how you will not learn anything. Without fail, this has not been a true statement yet. Classes and the topics they cover always allow you to stop and reflect on topics that you never thought of prior to the task. You are asked to research and put thought into topics that are so often taken for granted. These topics are able to enlighten me and help me stop to think about the issues at hand and the implications these issues have on society. It gives us a chance to look at what the issues are and possible ways to fix them or see what is being done to correct them.
Nursing is the largest profession in the world with over four million nurses in the United States alone (Brokaw, 2017). Nurses have the potential to influence many of the political issues and policies on a global scale. Nurses are able to advocate for the public when they get involved and influence policies. Medical errors are preventable adverse effects of medical care and are related to many factors such as incompetency, lack of education or experience, illegible handwriting, language barriers, inaccurate documentation, gross negligence and fatigue to name a few (Murphy. 2017).
