Writing has always been a key to the person I am today, I 've been writing sketch comedy and stand-up comedy for about six years, and recently I 've been working on writing music. I love writing because it is an umbrella term that cover so many different things, I learned from this class many of the things that writing can do. For example, in the first text I read, Nick Walker introduced the idea of a “Neurodiversity Paradigm Shift” I found this piece of text truly inspiring because it showed a minority that many people really never give the time of day. Also something I 've been working on and struggling my whole life is my grammar, in high school I was never really properly taught more advanced grammar and that reflects in my writing, but thanks to peer revision my grammar is getting stronger. Another thing that has majorly changed my writing is learning the difference between summary and analysis, in my first rough drafts I was mostly summarizing the text like many of my classmates. But after learning the difference in class and doing activities to reinforce that idea I was able to confidently give a strong analysis of the text. One of my biggest challenges for analysis was the Mushfaking essay, many of my peers struggled with it as well, but I was able to give an analysis of why the author composed the text without using summary as a crutch. Intro To College Writing not only made me a much stronger writer, but a more culturally aware person, which is important in the steps to becoming an adult. College is a place for academics, but more importantly, being exposed to the world around you and learning how

Some of the objectives I only met to a minimum, but those objectives will be fully grasped with further development of my writing. My academic writing has also improved by me taking time to fully understand who my audience will be. I use appropriate tone and language to appeal to my audience, so my thoughts will be understood. Creating an essay that flows with organization and transitional phrases also improves my academic writing by showing I understand what I am writing about. Completing the assignments for English Composition 101 were challenging and sometimes were quite difficult. Nonetheless, I would not have learned how to grow in academic writing without pushing myself to complete the objective for this course.
Over my career of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. Through my years of schooling people have determined my main weaknesses and strengths that I should work on with my writing. My biggest weakness is writing introductions and conclusions they must be so complicated and require so much thought to be defined as good. I excel at writing body paragraphs and explaining all the facts that back up your main ideas though.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
I wrote rhetorically for the first time, put my writing online, and gain a new understanding of writing. Of course, I learned about MLA format and citing, which is more important than it seems to be. Also, realized that my writing performance can be improved immensely based on spending more time on my assignments. As well as my grammar, general flow, and the maturity of my writing enhanced thanks to this class. The main reason I became a better writer was because my teacher. Ms. Perkins was one of the reasons why I did well this semester in English. She would always tailor her class to whatever I would need to be successful. ...d myself having in high school. I still tend to be a little too wordy at times, I misplace commas, and I still forget how to properly cite my research sources every now and them. I think I have become a little more meticulous about looking over my papers, however. I make fewer careless mistakes and take more time writing my papers than I did in high school. My points of view are clearer, and I have not been using commas incorrectly quite as often. I hope to continue to improve in the next few years of college as well. I haven?t received an ?A? on a paper yet, so my goal for the next few years of college is to eventually be able to consistently produce papers worthy of ?As.? Another major improvement, as a writer and as a reader, is that I learned to intently analyze other author’s rhetoric. I improved my personal writing by observing how and why other’s writings were effective at capturing and persuading their audience. One issue I am still working towards improvement upon, is the fluidity of my writing. I jump from one idea to a next with little to no transition, often times confusing my reader. Better organizing of my thoughts, topics, and points throughout my writing would allow for my work to flow more smoothly and the reader to transition between subjects with without getting
When I applied to Middle College, I was concerned about my ability to meet the writing expectations of my English 100 class. English would prove to be difficult, as my professor expected great work and many revisions. The course would become my revelation class, where my writing skills evolved to showcase more textual analysis and better reading comprehension. Outlines and planning tools became important aspects of our grades and they helped my writing process tremendously. I was able to use these new methods when writing the many literary analyses my professor assigned us. As I wrote these essays, I developed an appreciation for the authors and their craft. Throughout my highschool career, my writing has no doubt changed for the better. I now know how to express myself in a more professional and coherent manner. In literature class, I have learned different writing skills and methods to properly analyze literary works. I have also learned, critically, how to better synthesize disparate sources into a more seamless whole, which I think will be particularly crucial in my college years. I did somewhat arrogantly believe that there would not be that much of a significant improvement between the writing that I did freshman year and the writing that I’ve done so far senior year, but upon compiling my writing, I realize that there has been quite a striking change.
It has always been one of my favorite things to do, but just in the past few years I have learned how to really write with technique and writing strategies. In middle school, my Language Arts teacher was excellent; I went to Lincoln, a K-8 school, so I had her as my english teacher from sixth grade to eighth grade. One of her biggest focuses, I would say, was the learning and application of SWS and PWS skills; all Lincoln students will tell you that we were drilled on those over, and over, and over again. As a result, I came to like writing even more. Looking forward to this year, I would like to improve on the little details in my writing, so that my writing as a whole can be improved. When I say little details, I mean things like transitions, correct quotations with punctuation, different varieties of sentences, word choice, and going more in depth to whatever it is I am writing about. If I continue to work on these skills, I am hoping to earn between a 3 and a 4 on all of my Friday Writing assignments; 3.5 or 4 would be superb. To do this, I will put much time and concentration into all of my Friday writings; I will also go over the writing and check for errors and improvements before handing it in to be
When I first packed everything to move to Springfield, I was excited to start college in a new place and really be independent. During the first week of classes, I swore that I would not be able to survive this first semester. I did not expect some of the classes to be as difficult as they turned out to be. Other issues with a roommate led the first weeks to be rough; however, I started to like college once I found my ground and got my head straight.
One topic I enjoyed in this class was social interaction and social structure. Social interaction is how we interact with others in the world. Social structure is our status in the world. The one thing that stood out to me was the three different statuses. Ascribed status is a part of us, something that will never go away. My ascribed status is that I am an African American woman. Achieved status is the things we accomplish in life and put effort into. These are the things we freely do. My achieved status would be when I was in High School and I volunteered to mentor small kids at an elementary school. High school has been a very interesting experience for me. It has definitely had its highs and lows and many confusing experiences in between. Overall, I feel like I have been equipped for not only college, but also life as a whole. High school has taught me many things, both academically and emotionally. My parents arrived in the United States hoping for a better future not for themselves, but for the baby they carried in their arms. We would often move from relatives ' houses since my parents couldn’t afford renting an apartment themselves. We were fortunate enough to have caring relatives who didn 't mind us living with them since they knew the hardships we were going through. I grew up in a household where only Spanish was spoken given that both my parents didn’t speak any English at all. One area I could improve in is organization. While I can easily get my ideas down, the ideas do not always flow into one coherent piece. One thing that is especially difficult for me is finding the correct transitions to bridge one concept to another. For example, when I was writing my final paper for college writing in high school, the part I struggled with the most was connecting my thoughts and keeping all of the information relevant throughout the lengthy piece.
