Reflection Paper

Reflection Paper
After a summer internship at a news station that was in direct correlation with my declared undergraduate major, I am anxious to begin focusing my work and study toward higher education student affairs. My experience this summer forced me to do some self-evaluation and assessment as far as my strengths, weaknesses, and what kind of environment I envision myself thriving in. My vision for my career is ever developing.
Fitting into my profession
Like so many students at Southern Miss, I was inspired by mentors like Dr. Joseph Paul who convinced me that I could do great and be great things for this university. That encouragement made me want to seek out my passion and my niche. I have found that passion or “fit” in changing the conversation around choosing between a university and a junior college, Greek Life, sexual assault awareness, and bystander intervention education.
My passions lead my way of thinking about higher education and display what I will bring to the table in my profession. My cultural experiences ignited and now drive these passions, so I know that my focuses will be different than many coworkers. They will bring their own cultural lense to the conversation. So, I do not imagine fitting into my profession in the sense of conforming because I imagine working in a diverse atmosphere of professionals who respect the focus areas of their colleagues.

Professional Goals
As a junior, my current and most pertinent goals for my chosen academic program in student affairs include researching graduate level programs at various southeastern universities, pursuing funding for my graduate studies, and immer...

...to theme my blog posts around what we discuss in class and delve deeper into the discussions I present in class as well as in my weekly reflections through these posts. This will force me to become more active on my personal website, and to think more deeply about the topics we cover.
I am thoroughly looking forward to giving my all in this class, understanding my future profession better, and learning more about myself and my classmates as the semester progresses. I hope to come back to these goals frequently so that I remain accountable in my endeavors. This will force me to continue to strive for and remember my initial energy and excitement. Although I originally viewed this reflection paper as an inconvenient hurdle to overcome, I can now appreciate this goal-setting assignment and the purpose of writing these aspirations down.

How My Theory Has Changed Essay

- In this paper I will briefly present several enhancements to my supervisory theory as it has evolved over the last several years. I will share what I’ve been learning related to my theory of supervision through my experience of supervision, study, consultation, and continuing education. Process theology continues to be the anchor for my theological understanding. The events in my religious denomination, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, surrounding the ordination of gay and lesbian clergy in committed relationships (of which I am one) have brought me to a greater appreciation for what it means to be from the reformed tradition....   [tags: Reflection Paper]

A Reflection On Learning And Teaching Writing Essay

- It is my belief that writing is a fundamental skill that can be inter-connected across all disciplines, that teachers must have a strong knowledge of content to be effective, that metacognition is an important aspect of learning and teaching, and that building self-efficacy is detrimental to the success of learners of all ages. This reflection paper will discuss new knowledge, theories, and strategies discovered thus far, a plan of action for integrating knowledge into teaching writing, issues teachers face in regards to writing including the strengths and challenges of observed middle school students, the development of my personal attitude about writing over time, my personal strengths and...   [tags: Writing, Education, Teacher, Narrative]

Reflection Paper On Color Blind

- Throughout the semester I found several keys points to culturally responsive teaching. Although I am not going into education, I connected to several readings and projects that we did in this course. I found several of these key points to be relevant in many different situations in my career as well as teaching. In the classroom, I think it is important to be “color blind” to an extent. I n this article, Blais (2010) talks about how being completely “color blind” is not necessarily a good thing....   [tags: Stereotype, Racism, African American]

The Perspectives Of Global Education Technology Essay

- Prior to taking this course, my perspective on globalization was limited since I had little knowledge and experience with this topic. I failed to give much thought to the educational practices or policies that are implemented across the globe. Nonetheless, I discovered that there are various factors to consider when it comes to the process that these countries have taken to successfully integrate technology into their K-12 education system. Before even taking this course, I will admit that I have thought about how great it would be to connect with educators or health professionals across the globe, but I never thought I could make it happen....   [tags: Education, School, Educational psychology]

Education Is The Soul Of A Society Essay

- G. K. Chesterton once said that “education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to the next.” As a future teacher, this quote accurately sums up my personal experience, and it encapsulates my fascination with education. In a few short months, I will become one of Marian High School’s many alumni, and most of my four years spent in those halls will become little more than fond memories. However, the formation and education I received will remain a part of me “so long as men can breathe, or eyes can see.” One of the most important parts of that formation was the English instruction I received....   [tags: Education, Teacher, School, High school]

Past, Present & Future Paper

- Past, Present, and Future Paper I began my undergraduate studies at the University of Phoenix (UOP) in July 2006. The decision to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from UOP was based on the school’s curriculum, reputation, learning environment, and personal references. Past Looking back, it is amazing to reminisce upon the last two years. When I started school in July 2006, I had not been in an accredited learning environment in over thirty-two years. My previous schooling had been at a local College where I didn’t really have any educational or professional goals in mind and lacked workforce experience....   [tags: Reflection Reflective Personal Narrative]
