Everyone has a different way of learning things; I like to think that I am a more visual learner. However, the smart measure assessment has brought to my attention that I may actually have multiple ways of learning. The assessment has actually informed me of a lot of my strengths in each section but the sections that caught my attention are Learning Styles, Reading Rate & Recall, Technical Competency, and Technical knowledge.
Throughout my years in school I have always caught on to a new topic after seeing some sort of example accompanying the lesson, which is why I would consider myself more of a visual learner. According to the Smart Measure Assessment I am primarily an Aural and Solitary learner. An Aural learner is someone who uses music or musical techniques as a strategy to learn something, after thinking about it I will partially agree that this is accurate because I tend to link songs to a past events and certain topics I have learned but it isn’t my primary way of learning because it happens unintentionally. A Solitary is pretty much someone who likes to be alone in order ...
The visual learners prefer to use pictures, images, maps, colors, and spatial intelligence, which assist them to arrange their information, interact with others and give them a great sense of direction. They are great at accumulating information, curious and inquisitive due to the fact that without adequate information, the portrait of what they are learning will be imperfect. They are also enthusiastic about theory and facts; system diagram helps them to visualize the connection between parts of a system; story method assists them to learn by heart the content that cannot be seen easily. (Garner, 2012)
According to the VARK questionnaire, I possess a multimodal learning style. Being a multimodal learner is advantageous, as it allows the learner to adapt their style to each learning situation (Robertson, Smellie, Wilson, & Cox, 2011). The results further displayed that I am primarily a kinesthetic, but also a visual learner. These two distinct learning styles have much in common with cognitivist and constructivist learning theories.
In today’s world, there are many people who feel the pull of continuing their education by going to college. There are many factors that affect this process, and can either make or break a student’s attempt at academic success. Some of the factors are commonsensical, and others may not be as obvious – especially for returning students who have been out of school for a long period of time. There are many tools available to help students of all backgrounds discover their strengths, weaknesses, skills, and learning styles, all of which will help them prepare for their school routine. One of these tools is the Smarter Measure Assessment, which is an online tool that uses simple questions to measure a student’s readiness for classes. Although
It is beneficial to know that I am a visual learner due to the fact I have to visually see things for myself to understand and learn it. Growing up I have always been a visual learner. I found this inventory to be correct because of they way that I am , and how I take things in. When trying an auditory learning method, one big problem I struggle with is being able to pay attention long enough. By obtaining the confirmation on my preferred learning method, I can broaden my learning method by practicing the other learning methods outside of visual learning. I believe that I can open my learning styles by tring the other methods. After reading the learning method I think I will do good if I tried kinesthetic, being that I can see it as well as being hands
Today’s society, children are born on different educational levels. Some children can learn things easily and others take a little more time to understand the lesson. In general, people learn things at their own speed and time. The way a person learns is a technique that is suited for him or her. However, this progresses the rapidity and quality of the person learning. There are different learning styles that a person learns of such as, visual, verbal, social, solitary, aural, logical or physical. This is something that is a personal preference the person feels more beneficial to help them learn. In fact, whatever the person chosen learning styles are it guides him or her to learn. Every person has a combination of learning technique. Some
This topic relates to approaches to learning because some people learn best with music. I know that I must have music to concentrate or focus on my task I must complete. I know that I must have music to concentrate or focus on my task I must complete. I know because as I was doing the research for the project on the computer I used the internet radio and before I knew it my work was done. As I look back on how I mentally focus on things when I am in class, it can be hard for me to focus on subjects sometimes if it is too quiet in the room. I use this tool of music to study. I create songs of ...
According to Educationplanner.org (2011), “If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual. You like to see what you are learning.” Throughout his many years as a student, Jeremy unintentionally used the visual aspect of learning the most. He would always try to be in the front of the class, use flashcards to learn new words he is not familiar with, and keeps himself in quiet, distraction free places to study (Educationplannner.org 2011). Since Jeremy finds that the visual aspect of learning to be his best learning style, He aggress with the assessments from Educationplannner.org, and other websites such as Edcc.edu, that visual learning is the best style for him to learn with full
On my Smarter Measure report, I have scored mostly above average. I also have a different type of learning style, with Aural being my highest. Being Aural, I find that listening to music or audio is a good strategy for me to study. However, I have score low in the technological knowledge.
The Smarter Measure assessments help me focus on areas that need my attention. The assessment shows that my primary learning style is Aural. I use sound and music in my learning environment, music helps me focus. The Life Factor section shows that Skills is a major concern. I think the reason why this is a low score is due to the lack of confidence I have in me. I need to ask my academic advisors for more assistance in regards to tutoring, writing support and study groups. The Individual Attributes section shows that Procrastination is a problem. I need to learn instead of waiting for the deadline, I need to start my assignments immediately. The Technical Competency section shows I need assistances with Internet Competency. I need
High school gave me a great opportunity to experiment with different ways of learning to figure out what worked for me. After four years of trial and error, I have come to the conclusion that I am a visual and hands on learner. I enjoy watching films or educational videos that explain what I am trying to learn or give me information on a topic that I am researching. So it came as no surprise to see that my spatial score was significantly higher than my verbal one. This learning style first made itself prevalent to me during my
KST is the framework underlying ALEKS‘s design. KST explains how to reveal a learner‘s knowledge structures and achievement in a particular subject domain, in this case ...
I spend so much time in my day learning new things. I spend about 35 academic hours learning in a week to be exact. Although I could try and resist, I will be sure to learn multiple things in one day. I learn most of my knowledge through conversations and interactions. I am a visual learner, along with a auditory learner. I learn by hearing and listening. I have learned to listen closely to understand and remember things I hear during
Adjusting learning and studying strategies can be a fast easy way to improve a college grade from a B to an A. Through studies of learning styles I have been able to decipher my learning types. I am a visual learner, have an integrated brain, meaning I use both hemispheres, and ranked highest in bodily-kinesthetic and logic-mathematical intelligence.
There are seven learning styles and techniques. The first kind of learner is a visual learner also known as a spatial, this is when someone prefers using pictures and images to understand a topic. The aural learner also known as the auditory-musical person, is a person who prefers using music or sound. There is the verbal learner or the linguistic person who prefers using words, both in speech and writing. Next is the physical learner also known as the kinesthetic learner, the preference of this learner would be using the body, hands, and sense of touch to learn. Following that would be the logical thinker or the mathematical person, who prefers using logic, reasoning and systems to learn. The social learner also known as the interpersonal learner is someone who prefers to learn in groups and with other people. This type of learning style can be great for student in the traditional classroom setting. Last there is the solitary learner or the intrapersonal person. This is someone who prefers to work alone and use self-study methods. This type of learner would best be fit in the online classroom setting. Knowing what type of learner, you are can be important in helping to improve the speed and quality of learning. It can help avoid putting a student in an awkward position. Learning styles can have a great impact on students just as much as the
Each person has his or her own style of learning. Learning styles include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. In the questionnaire, I learned that I am very much a visual learner. This reflection will show what I have learned about my unique learning style and how understanding learning styles of the children I teach will be helpful as I become a teacher.
