My ethical and moral views, beliefs, attitudes and values have been fashioned by an up bringing that centred on Christian beliefs. Even though religion was not forced upon me as a child, my mother raised us all with a strong sense of right and wrong. Along with the influence of my family, the Navy has had a big influence on the person I am. The Navy has a strong ethos of what is expected of the personnel that serve; this is made up of the following: Leadership, High Professional Standards, and Courage in Adversity, Determination, Loyalty, Mutual Respect, Discipline, A Sense of Humour, Teamwork, and A Can Do Attitude. Most recently of all though, the biggest thing that has influenced me as a person and a parent has been my experiences of working with young people. This includes acting as a Youth Advisor for Portsmouth City Council, a Mentor for Barnardos and a Youth Advisor for East Sussex County Council. I am currently working in two secondary schools as part of my resettlement from the Navy. This has given me the experience of working with young people living in virtual poverty, in constant trouble with the Police and education services and some young people with varying levels of disabilities. This work has given me a good ability to stay impartial, to be non judgemental and has given me a capacity to treat people a lot more emphatically than I was ever able to. This is because I have been exposed to a greater range of problems and personalities than I have been used to in the Navy. These are qualities that I will hopefully be able to transfer into my coaching practice.

...y own personal development, I plan to attend further coaching training courses, one of these courses is, MAGIC coaching. This is a course run by the Coaching Academy and it teaches the following variation of the GROW model: Motivation, Assertiveness, Goal achievement, Initiative and Confident communication. This variation of coaching is focused more towards young people, and would therefore fit with my aspirations for the future. I would also be interested in attending a basic level course in NLP, as I believe this particular method will also benefit my coaching with young people.
I look forward to reading the latest research regarding learning styles and hope in the future to change my language used during sessions to appeal to the particular style of my coach. Until I am in a position to do this effectively I will try and use a broad spectrum of styles.
What is one way to establish in goal setting and manifest in ways to make a difference in someone life? Educational coaching is correct. Coaching is a very panoptic occupation. Eyes are on every single move the coach’s make and can be scrutinized in any form or fashion. Their decisions mark a path for every athlete in any sport. A coach should set a great example and be responsible in preparing ethical behavior in not only themselves, but every coach in the future. He believes that, through coaching, an individual builds up a vision for their life and a desire for a good future. The book aids coaches to acquire skills that they require to help others, to emerge winners during difficult and challenging moments in their life. The book is also designed to develop Christian coaches’ in questioning, listening and responding. These can help Christian coaches to assess themselves and build up a strategy for their work. Collins rewrote the second edition in order to simplify his coaching methods. The second publication develops his practical skills as a new head in the world that is changing quickly, which includes how to use diverse situations, insights based on the Bible and customized forms among others.
The experiences I had growing up have ingrained numerous morals, and some of my beliefs that I still carry today. I grew up in Miami, Florida and was raised by my grandfather and grandmother. My grandfather was my role model. My grandfather was a person who lived through the depression and learned to work hard and pay cash for what you want. He believed in old fashion hard work and that’s something that I too believe. He also believed in honesty always. In the Air Force honesty is depicted in our core value of integrity which I feel is extremely important and try to live daily. Finally, he also was in the Army Air Forces and fought in World War II. He would tell me about his time in the Air Force and how he really liked the military life. This is why when I was looking to go to college and thought of the military’s GI Bill the only service I considered was the Air Force. Here in my twenty first year, I can simply see how some of my values that I learned from growing up with my grandfather have helped develop the leader traits of honesty, accountability, and a sense of patriotism and dedication to the Air Force.

What do people have to do to become a teacher , coach or both? Let me take you back in time. Back then the learned men of ancient times, by default became the teachers. Priests and prophets taught children of the wealthy and noble, the skills to take up their roles as leaders and businessmen. So in other words, people who had knowledge they passed it down. After that knowledge being passed down those people would tell someone else and so on. Back then people with power like priests and king , told people things and people trusted them and of course they listened to them.

I wanted to start telling the story of our experience by sharing the feelings I brought into this exercise. A few years ago I underwent an experience of coaching through several sessions that left me this taste in the mouth that the coaching as a tool to develop others is not very effective. I have not taken the time to deeply analyze what went wrong but in general if I had to choose to do it again I think I would choose another methodology to foster change. Its objective in general is to assist in building behavioral skills, but in my opinion to really look for a long lasting change you need to give a deeper understanding to the lack of a certain skills, strongly reflect on the variables linked to it as could be the emotions, values and motivations that conduce you towards a behavior different that that one desired. Personally, I enjoy seeking information that allows me to jump beyond the facts, and staying on the behavioral side of the reality limits my passion for inspiration and insight.
Coaching and mentoring is a constant process that occurs all throughout a future teacher’s journey. While attending a university, it is common while in the teacher preparation program to undergo several coaching sessions and mentoring periods, which is great! Normally this continues through the first year of teaching, but something happens after that first year. If a relationship isn’t built, encouraged, and made intentional, the coaching stops. For teachers, this is strange. We are taught to constantly coach, encourage, mentor, and teach our students, but when it comes to our peers, those under us, etc., we assume that each teacher has suddenly “made it” as if someone who can make it through their first year is automatically “good to go” and will not encounter any hiccups along the way to becoming a veteran. In some instances, the teaching community is a selfish profession for the fact that you do what needs to be done for you and the students you serve, but not for your peers. You do not share your lessons, ideas, concerns, etc. Some teachers are still under the impression that if they are struggling, they are doing it wrong or they are not a “good” teacher. What I believe I have learned from the four models this week is really amazing. I have gained critical information that definitely will impact my life as an educator. Every model emphasized this week has different teaching techniques and each model helps meet the different needs of teachers. Even though, I am still having doubts on how to implement a specific model, I think instructional and content coaching can be implemented with novice and veteran teachers depending in the need of the teacher who is having issues in the classroom. Sport coaches help players realize their potential and motivate them to perform through discipline and teaching them relevant skills, techniques, and tactics. This is usually achieved through mutual communication and the fostering of meaningful relationships with the team members.
In addition to recognizing the importance of work-life balance, the program also helped me nurture skills that are crucial in the promotion of an effective balance between work and other aspects of life. As I was going through the program, I was able to balance my commitments in the program with my personal life. This helped me to reduce stress and so I approached my responsibilities positively and with great energy. Furthermore, valuable tips on how to maintain proper work-life balance including the need to exercise and meditate, not to seek perfectionism, to always have a schedule and adhere to it, and ensure I stay healthy.
There were many instances in my life that have shaped my values, intellect, and academic or career goals. I was raised by my parents to become a hard worker, independent, and caring young adult. I was taught how to be all these qualities by a combination of experiencing and witnessing them first hand.
