Micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals are essential to life, health and development. While their deficiencies have been widely linked with various pathological presentations, their serum elevated levels have also been recognized in many disease states. Many agents even those with therapeutic usefulness have been known to alter serum micronutrients levels. This raises the stake with fake drug administration. The aim of the study therefore is to identify if administration of fake neurobion is capable of causing serum micronutrient alterations in female Wistar rats of average age of thirteen weeks. Eighteen rats were divided into 3 groups of 6 rats each. The first, second and third groups of rats were dosed with 30 mg/kg BW of fake Neurobion, genuine neurobion®, and distilled water respectively. The route of administration was by gastric gavage. Determination of serum mineral and vitamin levels were carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectrometric method and high performance liquid chromatographic technique (HPLC) respectively. Of all the minerals (Zn, Cu, Se, Mn, Co, Fe, Mo, ...
Literature has found that low levels of vitamin B12 is associated with accelerated cognitive decline and may contribute to Alzheimer's disease.
In a study of 47 young women supplemented with 15 mg Mn/day for 125 days, serum Mn concentrations increased to 0.3 μg/l, and were significantly higher than those who did not receive Mn (C.D. Davis 1992). Yet Greger et al. (1990) reported that serum Mn in young men was not associated with dietary levels, either at baseline (0.2 μg/l ) or after 7 days of supplementation with 15 mg Mn (0.1 μg/l) (J.L. Greger 1990). Thus, blood levels of Mn appear to be too variable or unresponsive to change in Mn status to be utilized as definitive markers.
Dietary supplements are very beneficial to one’s body if they are taken correctly. There are many pros and cons to taking dietary supplements. In this paper I will discuss the pros and cons and how supplements affect the human body. We will also consider the government’s guidelines regarding dietary supplements.
A well-balanced diet contains all the necessary vitamins, and most individuals who follow such a diet can correct any previous vitamin deficiencies. However, persons who are on special diets, who are suffering from intestinal disorders that prevent normal absorption of nutrients, or who are pregnant or lactating may need particular vitamin supplements to bolster their metabolism. Beyond such real needs, vitamin supplements are also often popularly believed to offer "cures" for many diseases, from colds to cancer; but in fact the body quickly eliminates most of these preparations without absorbing them. In addition, the fat-soluble vitamins can block the effect of other vitamins and even cause severe poisoning when taken in excess.
Her findings from this research was praised as she concluded that small supplementary feeding with fruits, milk and wheat germ improved the growth of school children. She also found out that the over dosage of Vitamin D produced brittle bones and calcification of soft tissues. If that wasn’t enough, she continued her extensive research and showed that pantothenic acid is essential for normal pigmentation of hair and skin. Lastly she was intelligent enough to prove that the bone density of woman decreased between 50 and 65 years of
Zinc is known to prevent and treat the intoxication of lead which often proves more effective along with the combination of methionine or thiamine (Flora et al., 1989; 1991). Supplementation of zinc simultaneously with methionine or thiamine helps effectively reduce urinary excretion of ALA and the lead induced ALAD activity in the blood. It is suggested from such studies that the combination therapy including the essential nutrient elements and vitamins concurrently with exposure to lead could be more effective than treating the lead toxicity after exposure. This helps to reduce the absorption of lead in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus it can be attributed that zinc help to reduce the lead absorption
Almost 30 years later, Olestra was finally given approval by the FDA to be used in food, however, with the condition of a warning label indicating the product can induse upset stomach and loose stools, as well as inhibiting the absorbtion of vitamins A, D, E and K. For a product that was supposed to be perfect, what happened? Studies conducted prior, first with mice, had somewhat alarming results which indicated that in addition to the first two problems stated, Olestra can cause cancer. The reason for this is that the product interferes with the bodies natural absorbtion of carotenoids which are found in fruits in vegetables, which help the body fight against cancer. Studies in humans showed that people who consumed 2 grams of Olestra per day had 15% lower level of carotenoids in their body than those who didnt eat them. A regular sized bag of chips made with Olestra however, contain over 15 grams. Further studies showen that when given Olestra doses every day included in every meal, levels dropped over 60%.
MSM is a dietary supplement that has become known as the "miracle supplement" because it has garnered a reputation for treating several illnesses and diseases. Presently, MSM is gaining popularity with people who are looking for the perfect supplement that has a wide variety of health benefits. It has been found, with very limited scientific research, that MSM serves as an important source of readily available dietary sulfur, which is known to be critical in maintaining the integrity and elasticity of connective and other tissues. There have not been many scientific studies conducted on MSM, so most of the reports on the benefits of using this supplement have been based on casual observations and documenting by consumers. Lack of scientific
A vegan diet, which excludes all animal products including dairy and fish, can provide benefits for brain health when it is balanced. However, a poorly planned vegan diet can have a negative impact on brain health, resulting in mental health problems and even neurological disorders. Vegans should be sure to meet the daily requirements for vitamins in order to ensure optimum brain health. Vitamin D is particularly important for vegans, since it isn 't found in many vegan foods. According to "Scientific American" magazine, a 2009 study by researchers at the University of Manchester demonstrated that adults with lower vitamin D levels processed information much slower than those who had adequate levels. Fortunately, food isn 't the only source of vitamin D. Your body makes vitamin D during sunlight exposure, so try to get at least 10 to 15 minutes of sunlight on at least three or four days of the week. Vegan sources of vitamin D include fortified soy milk and fortified orange
There may be a store near you where fresh ingredients can be easily found and purchased, that are rich in the vitamins and devoid of the items that are detrimental to good health.

Dietary Supplements: What (2013) founds that dietary supplement may be perceived as a harmless stimulant to health. Some of dietary supplement products have demonstrated benefits, many of which we cannot say the same. Unlike what happens with curative drugs, the FDA does not evaluate the safety and effectiveness of dietary supplements, and depending on current medications or health problems we have; "natural" supplements can have risky health effects. This lack of regulation can lead to wildly inconsistent quality and there are no guarantees that the ingredient touted on the label of a bottle will be in the supplement at all. According to federal law, dietary supplements cannot be promoted as effective for the treatment of a disease because that is not proven to be safe and effective. According with Desai, K. (2012) the consumer reports from 2007
Maturity is not something that happens overnight. Maturity comes through trial and error; it’s a process which has to be perfected. Life throws curveballs and there are always multiple ways to deal with the situations. Being mature is making the right choices and knowing right from wrong.
They often promise to make a person more muscular, super energized, smarter, and/or thinner. Just because they are natural or herbal doesn't mean they are safe or even that they live up to their claims.
