Reflection can act as a form of self-appraisal or self-evaluation, which may represent how individuals perceive themselves and how they present themselves to others. The advantage of reflection may reside in the value individuals associate with the various contexts and content they use to make comparisons with their current reality. Reflecting on Baker’s Masters of Science in I/O Psychology program provides a way to expand on meaningful experiences in the program and the elements found to be most beneficial overall. Continued self-awareness will allow for greater insight in relation to interpersonal interactions and relationships, along with an ongoing process of self-understanding and self-discovery. For instance, the ability to regulate one’s own behavior can be applied in a number of settings, based on the use of self-awareness and the feedback encountered from multiple sources (Vancouver & Day, 2005). Therefore, self-regulation allows for the active engagement of attentional focus toward an intended goal and any adjustment needed to achieve the goal. Progression through the courses has provided an opportunity to become more knowledgeable, experienced, and confident in applying psychological concepts to the workplace. The final projects of each course provided a way to demonstrate understanding and continue learning to apply valuable concepts. Global and cultural applications throughout many of the courses also provides a firm base for continuing to learn about diversity and inclusion. A range of skills and abilities are needed to properly apply I/O psychology to the workplace, and these skills provided by the program. Self-awareness and self-regulation were only a couple of many skills learned and/or improved upon during the program. Although specific areas were outlined, it is difficult to choose, since all courses were full of new information.
