Polymer Recycling and Disposal
Recycling is the process by which a waste material is converted again into reusable process and disposal is a process by which we get rid of something. Polymers are not very reactive so this property makes them very useable for storing food but this property makes it difficult to recycle or dispose of polymer. This difficulty in recycling and disposing of polymer is a major cause of environment hazard. Since the waste of polymer is increasing day by day so proper measurement should be taken to reduce the use of polymer and different method should be made to properly dispose and recycle waste. Following are the process by which a polymer is recycled or disposed.

The process of recycling reduces the amount of carbon dioxide because less material is burn. The recycling is also energy friendly because some products require less energy to reproduce and saves a lot of energy by not producing product again and again.
Limitation of recycling process:
The process of recycling is costly and if the polymer contains other type of material then it can contaminate the whole melted batch. The recycled product did not have good strength and may not last longer. The recycling sites are very unhygienic and spreading disease and other harmful chemical and waste.
Reduction to low molecular weight:
By the process of hydrolysis and pyrolysis polymer may be degraded to lower molecular weight and by the process of filtration they are separated from non-polymer and finally the polymer material is separated into its component by fractional distillation therefor a lot of polymer material is recover and reuse.
Recycling of junk automobiles
Junk automobiles contain 12% to 13% of polymer material of their weight so the junk automobile has to be recycle in order to recover
To implement a recycling program requires a collection process that includes the containers to gather the materials, the trucks to transport them to the processing site, and the manpower to manage the program. Unfortunately, recycling is more of a business than an attempt to save the environment. The value of the material being recycled overshadows the negative impact of dumping items into the landfill. At a point in time, the demand for recycled paper declined, so recyclers stored the material in hopes that values would increase. “The hope is that eventually the markets turn around and that the materials is sold, but I have heard of instances where it gets landfilled, because a community doesn’t have the demand or the space or the company to deal with it, “ says Gene Jones, the executive director of Southern Waste Information Exchange (Westervelt,
Recycling is a great way of trying to save and conserve the natural resources that are used from the Earth. Also, it reduces the amount of waste in landfills, as well as, reducing greenhouse gasses. Recycling is one simple way of putting a global footprint into the Earth.
Recycling helps protect the environment. Recycling creates sustainable environment. All of the wastes and all of the industrial processes creates air and water pollution. Process of recycling helps to minimize the risks of air and water pollution. It helps to solve the problem of global warming. The waste we produce come in the form of bottles, boxes, cans, refuse, furniture, clothing, paper products, packaging waste, glass, aluminum, plastic, metals and paperboard. It take so many years if we just throw them away to spoil on its own and to destroy. During the disposal process, this waste releases poisonous gases and chemicals into the environment. When the non-biodegradable products in our waste are burned, they often emit gases that deplete the ozone layer in the atmosphere, which in turn allows more ultraviolet radiation to reach our living atmosphere, giving rise to global warming and rising sea levels. Now in this present world global warming is the major issue. Like in the North Pole and South Pole the ice caps are melting. This is just because of the failure of the ozone layer to block the ultraviolet rays coming from the sun. This means we are heading to the age of global warming. We can stop
Other alterations such as dying the polymer are less cost efficient to recycle and can be more difficult as well. There are certain types of HDPE (high density polyethylene) that are blown into shapes such as bottles. Different chemicals are used in this process and therefore have to be separated into their own category when recycling. The reason people have moved away from landfill dumping and moved towards recycling is due to the fact that it is much more cost effective to recycle compared to paying engineers and environmentalist to designing landfills.4 The HDPE can also be mechanically recycled through curb side pick ups.
Many people believe that we should not recycle anymore, but this is not the case. We, the people of the world, need to continue to recycle because we do not want our children to grow up in a world where there are no certain species of animals due to recycling failures. We also do not want our children to grow up thinking that it is okay that they throw their garbage on the ground, and not have to pick it up. We need to teach our children that they need to take care of the earth that they are living on, because they only get one. Recycling is one of the most beneficial environmental issues that we have here on this earth. Recycling saves energy, limits pollution and supports several environmental factors of the economy. “In 2003, the savings from recycling 54 billion aluminum cans exceeded the energy equivalent of 15 million barrels of crude oil- or the amount of gas the U.S. uses in one day,” according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA estimates that 200 million gallons of used oil are not disposed of properly, and if we were to dispose the oil properly then we could keep the oil from polluting the ground and the fresh water source. According to E. Takatori, “… While on-going societal regulation treats material recycling as the dominant cycle, the properties of recycled plastic remain the most port
Most people have heard of recycling and reuse, but many people think that recycling is only something “Mother Nature lovers” and “tree huggers” do to feel good about themselves. What they do not know is that it is economically advantageous, and environmentally beneficial. In fact, it is a very efficient and simple way for everyone to help save the earth, and a lot of money.
One reason is that recycling can help save the earth from waste and trash build-up. For example, fifty percent of roofing and construction on houses is made from recycled aluminum cans. Using recycled materials to produce new products costs less money and less energy than new materials. It can also save valuable landfill space. People have trash everyday. Pretty much anything is recyclable. If you throw them away, it?s a waste of natural resources, a waste of energy, and a waste of money. Instead people should take the time collect these things and put some effort into helping in the world we live in.
Some people say recycling is a waste of time. If one is a very busy person, then maybe. But taking that extra two seconds to recycle, saving energy, money, resources, and the world isn’t a bad plan either. If everyone would take the extra two seconds to recycle, the extra effort would help to make the world would be a much cleaner and more efficient place. Recycling could also help to lower taxes in the long run. Recycled materials have value, and trash costs money. A city recycling program could sell it and make money. Then, with the extra money, the city wouldn’t have to charge as much money on taxes. Now how does those two extra seconds sound now? One can better the place they live in and save some money by taking two extra seconds to recycle.
In one argument, recycling seems to be not very cost-effective because some people already pay a high price for garbage disposal than they perceive. At least a small amount of governments pay dues to hauling companies, transfer stations, or landfills out of local tax revenue. That decreases the exact cost to householders and firms, making the usual garbage disposal sound less costly than it really is. At any time that recycling agencies start, householders usually pay the whole price of recycling. This can skew the cost juxtaposition between the recycling companies and the disposal of waste at landfills. Recycling actually diminishes costs seeing that the costs correlated with future disposal are eluded. One of these eluded costs
Pakistan is a developing country and it needs to tap into its natural resources to get the best results economically. Energy crisis is a time and money sucking problem that Pakistan is going through. Lahore's population has increased from 7-8 million to 10 million in the last 8 years as analyzed by Pakistan Statistical Bureau. Dumping of solid wastes, that is; rubber, plastic and glass is a common phenomenon in this city. There are hundreds and hundreds of scavengers and junk-shops. This causes a considerable depletion of the natural resources, stops creating new jobs and opportunities and hence pulls the legs of economic development backwards. A well prepared recycling program, can make sure that natural resources are readily available to the generations to come and Earth is environment friendly, as it was once. Plastics are the most common waste product that destroys the nature. Plastics, if once made, cannot be destroyed. They are non-biodegradable. If plastics are set on fire, they release carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and other poisonous toxic fumes, and still carbon is left. So the best way, to utilize this is to recycle it and use it again and again, rather than producing more.
Recycling is important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are running out of locations to put landfills. Recycling is a simple and effective way to reduce the amount of waste stored in landfills, yet many people do not know how easy it can be. For example, whenever I go to Shoprite® and I b...
One huge aspect of recycling is that it gives the recycler the fulfillment of helping the environment. W. Kip Viscusi a professor at Vanderbilt University said, “The warm glow environmental benefit that a person receives from recycling will be greater for those who place a higher value on the environment .” Therefore, the benefit of helping our environment is the greatest benefit of all. Although it might seem as if plastic is thrown away than it can not harm the environment, however, that is incorrect. Plastic is not biodegradable, therefore, it will never be able to completely decompose into the earth. With plastic not being able to decompose it takes up a large amount of space while also being capable of traveling through the air. Sati Manrich, the author of Plastic Recycling said, “The mounting volume of plastic residues, coupled with their extremely low biodegradability, generated a serious problem regarding the amount of space they took up.” Therefore, when plastic is thrown away it will last for at least four-hundred and fifty years before degrading in the landfills; thus allowing all the plastic that was thrown away in the last four-hundred and fifty years to start a stockpile in the landfills or even travel somewhere else.(Manrich
On the other hand, some people feel that recycling should not be mandatory. Some people feel as if recycling is not always cost effective. Sometimes, there may be a need for new factories to process reusable materials. This could even create more pollution because of the cleaning, storage and transportation that takes place. Also, some people feel that recycled products may not last for long. Recycled materials are not always a reliable quality. The materials are mostly made up of trashed waste, which is why the products are cheap and last for a shorter period of time. Another reason why some people think it is not necessary to recycle is because there are unsafe and unhygienic recycling sites. Places like landfills, where all sorts of waste is dumped contribute to the spread of different diseases and other dangers caused by harmful chemicals and waste. People also think that r...
Recycling is of great importance, and its importance is economic and environmental. It preserves natural resources, reduces depletion, reduces the amount of waste, reduces its growth, conserves the environment, cleanses it of some harmful waste, reduces unemployment and creates opportunities.
