“There is nothing more dangerous than to build a society with a large segment of people in that society who feel that they have no stake in it; who feel that that have nothing to lose. People who have stake in their society, protect that society, but when they don't have it, they unconsciously want to destroy it.” This quote from Martin Luther King explains that if people don't feel equal to everyone else or don’t have equal rights, then they are felt left out and so they wouldn’t like it anymore so they'll want to destroy it. There are many reasons why societies begin to fall. All kinds of societies can fall no matter how perfect it is. These societies can have many problems that lead to them falling, they could even start out as a small problem but can escalate and grow larger. The main issues for some for the greatest societies to fall, are the unfair laws, when they lose money and don’t have a lot and the unfair treatment of citizens.
There can be many reasons of why societies fall, but one of the most important ones that lead them to failure are the unfair laws that they might have. An example of how unfair laws causes societies to fall is in a book call Unwind, where they have a law called storking. Storking is where If you don’t want your baby, you put it on the porch of someone elses house and then you just leave and if you open the door and there a baby you have to take unless you catch the person who left it running away. “She choses the home shrewdly. The house she decides on isn't the largest but is not the smallest. It has a very short walkway to the street, so she can get away quickly and its overgrown with trees, so no one either inside or out will be able to see her as she storks the newborn.”(Unwind p.54) Th...

...laws are unfair the citizens get unhappy and once more people are unhappy the society begins to fall. Another key factor is that societies can lose money from many reasons, including wars and the little money can make the society go into economic depression. One last key point is that when societies treat their citizens unfairly or poorly those people would be happy since they treat different people differently and that leads to societies falling. One of the only ways to keep a society from failure is to learn from previous mistakes and not repeat them.

The Roman empire was a very large and successful empire, although like many things it had to come to an end. The three primary reasons that had most contributed to Rome's fall is foreign invasions, military weakness , and weak leadership.
Economic injustice and oppression occur because someone benefits from them. It is in the interest of someone to create and perpetuate oppressions (pg. 17). If these groups of people that are oppressed were not pitted against one another, an uprising of phenomenal proportions could occur. This is exactly what the rich, white, male, Christian, heterosexual able-bodied society (a.k.a.: The Norm) does not want to happen! Racism, sexism, and classism are necessities for the survival of The Norm.
The world is filled with many different types of societies and cultures. This is due to the fact that many people share dissimilar beliefs and ideas, as well as diverse ways of life. People lived under different circumstances and stipulations, therefore forming cultures and societies with ideas they formulated, themselves. These two factors, society and culture, are what motivate people to execute the things that they do. Many times, however, society and culture can cause downgrading effects to an assemblage if ever it is corrupt or prejudiced. Society and culture not only influences the emotions individuals have toward things like age differences, religion, power, and equality but also the actions they perform as a result.
Barker (2014, p.1) suggests that the law may be defined as a rule of human conduct, imposed upon and enforced among the members of society in which laws are inaugurated to ensure that social order continues. As a result, laws ensure that members of society may live and work together in an orderly manner by following the same rules. However, laws have different affects on individual members in society and from this point of view, this essay will focus on how laws in society affect individuals in minority and disadvantaged groups.
War is commonly defined as an armed conflict between two entities, one that dates back to the beginning of mankind’s very existence. During this time many have attempted to explain the complex nature of war, its actors, and its origins. There are two authors in particular who have made critical analysis on the topic of war within the international system, more specifically the nature of balanced power and hegemonic war and the role that perception plays in conflict. Glipin asserts that disequilibrium will result in a hegemonic war due to inferior civilizations striking falling civilizations. Whereas Jervis asserts that misperception is the driving cause of war. I argue that it is not an inferior civilization, but rather different economies
...downfall.Mostly societies fall due to whoever is leading them, like in Athens they were told to retreat inside of the walls which lead to an outbreak that killed ⅓ of the city’s population.Although trying to make a “perfect” society never ends up working out, we can learn from our mistakes and always try to make ours better. As I once said, “It is not possible to create a perfect society for imperfect beings.”
We live in horrific times, and evil — modern, historical, symbolic — continue to fuel our darkest dreams. Yet it took the talents of Paul Thomas Anderson to unify all of these things into perfect portrait of a fiend in the person of Daniel Plainview, in his movie There Will Be Blood. Daniel Plainview is the epitome of a misanthrope He is a man governed by passions and his hated for the human race, saying at one point in the film, ” There are times when I look at people and I see nothing worth liking”. There Will Be Blood presents a character of a man that is uncommon to today’s society, but one that exists nonetheless. This character is however lacking in the society formed by Plato in his writing of The Republic. Here we will look at how Plato would deal with a human like this, if one were to exist in his society, or if he would believe that a man such as this could not come to be at all in the civilization he created.
What is a great society? The key components to a great society are good economic values, strong government, and to make sure your citizens are happy. However, these societies have the opposite of that. These societies have bad laws and rules, citizens living in poverty, and they go through a ton of wars, but losing every single one. Leaving almost all of their soldiers dead. Minority of the societies getting treated unfairly, citizens rioting, dying, with no food, water, or even shelter for them. The reason why great societies fall is because of wars, poverty of citizens, and the bad rules and laws of these societies.
The first component is the desire to reprimand a person who has done wrong upon them. Humans, like animals, have self-defense mechanism. However, unlike animals, humans are capable of sympathy. Humans have a wider range of emotions. Therefore the need they feel for punishment onto the person who did them wrong depends on the severity of the act according to the “victim.” This brings us to the second point that talks about how certain rights are protected by law therefore punishable by law enforcement. Society must defend itself against those who disobey their laws in the interest of general utility among its people. The conservation of justice and of just laws preserves harmony and well being among human beings. As a result there is a very big utility interest in preserving and enforcing justice 's commands. Each person’s happiness must be held to the same standard of importance in order for this system to work. A rich man’s rights in the justice system must be no more important than the rights of the poorest man. Justice is meant to provide the overall greatest happiness to human beings. It is looking at the greater picture rather than individual
Social stability can be the cause of problems. After reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, we are informed that “Bokanovsky’s Process is one of the major instruments of social stability!” Now is it worth it? Is it worth the sacrifice? Questions like those are addressed throughout the book. Huxley wants to warn us of many things, for example the birth control pill, the way that we can colon ourselves and many other things. He wanted us to know that many of the experiments that they do to the caste in Brave New World, we were later going to do investigate more ourselves or start doing them to others. We have all, at a point; come to a point to the question where we ask ourselves “is it worth it? Is it worth the sacrifice?”
"Society never advances. It recedes as fast on one side as it gains on the other. ... For every thing that is given something is taken." Emerson, "Self Reliance", p 169
During the book he talks a lot about having a well organized society in order for everything to flow out correctly. Everyone within the society need to accept and know that there are other people just as important as they within the society. This means that they need to accept the same principles of justice as everyone else in order to reach some type of equilibrium among each other. This is hard to happen
“The combination of all these causes forms so great a mass of influences hostile to individuality that it is not easy to see how it can stand its ground. It will do so with increasing difficulty unless the intelligent part of the public can be made to feel its value, to see that it is good there should be differences.” (208, Mill) People who always think new ideas go thru a harsh path, but they learn from their mistakes and experiences, and keep moving forward and in the end those who do make it, make society
Being that a human wants to be held in a higher esteem than another human in the same society, he also wants to be valued more, thus establishing inequality. At this point amour-de-soi is not entirely out of the picture but almost entirely obsolete. The place where humans went wrong, in terms of solidifying their own demise, is when they began to rely on each other, rather than rely on themselves for sustenance, the introduction of metallurgy and agriculture accentuates this. Once metallurgy and agriculture arise the small physical inequalities that were not a problem before are taken advantage of. A stronger person is able to plow and harvest the fields and therefore are more able to exponentially abuse their advantage over time. Now that humans are able to harvest land deduction leads humans to claim the lands as their own, thus the need for laws and justice. Progress and technology put some ahead of others and also creates divisions within a particular society. Harmful artificial inequalities follow from benign natural inequalities. Amour-propre’s role in founding inequality is solidified in the last part of Rousseau’s theory with the foundation of society. Because the rich have an illicit incentive to harm others, but have the most to lose from constant war, they are able to seduce the
Law is one of the most important elements that transform humans from mere beasts into intelligent and special beings. Law tells us what is right and wrong and how we, humans, should act to achieve a peaceful society while enjoying individual freedoms. The key to a successful nation is a firm, strong, and fair code of high laws that provides equal and just freedom to all citizens of the country. A strong government is as important as a firm code of law as a government is a backbone of a country and of the laws. A government is a system that executes and determines its laws. As much as fair laws are important, a capable government that will not go corrupt and provide fair services holds a vital role in building and maintaining a strong country.
