In the United States of America, a total of 17.3 million students enroll into college immediately after completion of high school. While many students in the United States are attending college, the students’ reasons for attending college vary. Some students may be attending college in order to pursue a dream of playing professional football, while others may be attending college to pursue a career in the medical field. The reasons I decided to attend college are to fulfill family’s expectations and to pursue my dreams of changing the world.
In my family, I am not a first generation college student. I have two parents with college degrees from Jackson State University, and an older brother pursuing a degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Growing up, my parents emphasized the importance of higher education, so pursuing a college degree was always in my family’s expectations for my life. Furthermore, having a grandfather who worked as a professor of Biology in higher education, nothing less than a college degree is acceptable.
According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, by 2018, 60 percent of job openings in the United States of America will require a college education. Therefore, lack of a college education greatly lowers the amount of future job opportunities. Since jobs that require a college degree pay more, lack of a college education will affect someone’s ability to provide for a family. Not only do I want to be able to adequately provide for my future family, but I want my children to grow up with even more opportunities than I had growing up. I decided to attend college because a college education is so vital to future success.

...obtain a master’s degree after seven years. Taking an extra year to complete an undergraduate degree will only prolong the time before I can enjoy the benefits of completing graduate school.
Graduating on time will place me on schedule to begin graduate school on time, and completion of graduate school on time will place me on schedule to enjoy the benefits of a graduate degree at the youngest age. The US News & World Report reports that students will a graduate degree are expected to have a 30% increase in salary compared to students with only undergraduate degrees. It would be great for that 30% increase to kick in at the youngest age possible, so that I will have more money to help provide for my future wife and kids. In conclusion, graduating in four years or less will have many positive effects upon undergraduate graduation from Jackson State University.
