Whether or not to attend College after graduating High School is an important decision in a young person’s life. There are a number of factors to consider such as funds, grades, and other social issues that must be considered. The government offers different types of funding for students like Pell grants and student loans. Therefore, everyone is able to attend some college, even if it is just the local Community College in the area. Attending College is the supreme option for most High School graduates, which will enable them to earn their maximum potential income, while also preparing them to make well informed decisions throughout their lifespan. College can also help to improve a person’s social skills and provides a multitude of life lessons to be learned.
For instance, I have family and friends who struggle socially on a daily basis. They can text, Twitter, and Facebook, but when it comes to face to face moments at school, at their job, or even family events they struggle to communicate. Obviously, this may be due to some underlying personality issues, but I firmly believe that college can help even the most socially awkward or just plain shy student blossom. It can provide a safe haven to find yourself, while you also get an education and gain some independence. Some people might argue that whether you go to college or not that you will still experience those same life lessons and skills. While this may be true, wouldn’t it be preferable to learn them in college before you enter the real work force world? It enables adolescents to become more independent and learn how to manage their time wisely. Even the shyest individual can blossom into a social butterfly all while majoring in a particular field of their choice. College is not a prerequisite for success, but it does help to give you a fighting chance. The choices you make not only impact your life and others you come in to contact with through work and school, but also empower your children’s future as well. College is the optimum option to reach your maximum income, gain independence, experience life, and to remain employed. We all have to work, so why not love what you do along the way. Finally, College allows you to be in the driver seat and not just a passenger enjoying the ride.
