Good writing skills allow you to communicate your message clarity and ease to a far larger audience than through face-to-face or telephone communication. There are things that i’ve been learned ‘bout writings. To be a good writer, these are some things that you need todo to become a good writer; you need to brush up on the basic principles of writing, grammar, and spelling;Write like it’s your job and practice regularly;Read more so you develop an eye for what effective writing looks like; Ask a partner and ask to read your writing and provide a feedback;Eliminate unnecessary words from your writing and don’t be afraid to say what you mean in what you write. Having a poor writing skills give the reader a negative impression. I used to study more about on how to be a good writer. And i learned on how to construct my writings from grammar, spelling and punctuation. Even if i know the spelling and grammar rules, i should still double check my work. Our brains work faster than our fingers can type and accidental typographical errors (typos) inevitably creep in. Their are some tricks that i’ve learned for checking and improving my work is to read it aloud. And reading text forces to slow down and to pick up problems with the flow that my eye would otherwise skip over. Writing is a skill which can be learned like any other. That’s how i improved my writing
Great communication always starts at the top. For us to become great communicators we first need to be great listeners.
In order to be a good speaker, first we must know how to be a good listener. There are certain rules ones must follow when they are listening to a speech: put away your cell phone, pay attention to everything the speaker is talking about and get engaged with the speaker and the topic. The first one is easy to be understood: cell phone is a distraction to you and also the speaker during a speech. Paying attention to things the speaker is talking about is a sign of respect for not only him or her as a speaker, but also for you as a qualified listener. A good listener should be attentive as well. They make good eye contact with the speaker and show interest in what is being discussed. It is not as easy as you may think to be a good listener; it also requires practice. But when you make it, not only will you gain respect and admiration from others; but you also learn things from them. Just like Calvin Coolidge once said: “It takes a great man to be a good
1. Become a Good Listener: We’ve all been told to be a good listener, and assume that “listening” requires a response. But we never stop to think that the speaker may wish to talk
The time that I recall when I first began to read was when I was two years old. My mom started teaching me a lot before I went into kindergarten and it was really useful that she was a kindergarten teacher herself. The main types of readings I do are magazines, research articles, and when I get assigned to read a novel for a class. I would describe myself as a reader that once I start reading a book, I find myself not being able to stop because I want to know what will happen next. A moment that encapsulates who I am as a reader is when I read a novel that I chose for a class to do a book report on and found myself reading it for over an hour because I was in such suspense. My favorite books are “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” and “Dress Her in
According to The New Websters’ International Encyclopedia, (1996), it is stated that there are more than 400 million people in the United States, the British Isles, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and South Arica use its native language which is English Language. English is a lingua franca in all of the industries across the world such as scientific industry, accountancy industry and education industry.
English is an international language. It has been used as a communication media by all people in the world. English is an important language that must be mastered by all people of all community in the world.
A language with rather humble roots, one that has been twisted and bent, one that has taken and borrowed from other languages, and one that has been the subject of much debate as to the correctness of certain usages, today English is the language that the world uses to communicate. The world uses English for a variety of reasons from commerce and trade, to political decisions, to technology and science, and beyond. The entire world uses English to get business done. Thus it truly has become the lingua franca for the world.
Of 1500 million people speaking English, only 375 million are native speakers (Statista, 2017), which means that approximately three-fourth of the English-speaking population are non-native speakers. Moreover, English is spoken by more than half the population in 45 countries beyond the United Kingdom (Smith,
First of all, English is becoming an international language nowadays, and it is shared by people all over the world instead of only belonging to those who are native speakers of English. Swann (2001) classifies languages into four groups, which are called local languages or peripheral languages, central languages, super-central languages, and hyper-central languages respectively. English, in fact, is the only hyper-central language among all kinds of languages as it is spoken in almost any country for various purposes and it is taught in most countries all over the world. As a result, English has become a global lingual franca, not only used
To be effective listeners, the listening process should be incorporated into our lives. We should be attentive to what people say, clarify what the speaker is trying to come across, and respond in a way the speaker can understand what we are saying. I think I was aware that I needed some improvement in certain areas of this process but I feel as everything is slowly changing. In the future, I’m going try not to interrupt people, get distracted, tune out, and try to get a bigger picture of what the person is telling me. If good listening habits are applied in our day-to-day life, we can easily communicate with anyone and everyone.
John Steinbeck stated that “Learning to read is probably the most difficult and revolutionary thing that happens to the human brain, and if you don 't believe that, watch an illiterate adult try to do it.” (142). The first time a child really understands the concept of reading it becomes an introduction to a whole new world. When one thinks of literacy the first thing one thinks of is the ability to be able to read and write. But literacy is much more than that, to me literacy is the key to all forms of knowledge as being literate opens up the doors to all forms of learning and continued learning. Building confidence as a reader, writer, listener and speaker is transformational in a person 's life. These core abilities are used every minute of every day to live in the world. Even in society a large degree of importance is placed on literacy. The in-class text by Sylvia Scribner states “I want to depict that is, the tendency in many societies to endow the literate person with special virtues”. (16) Throughout my life literacy has played a very important role, and has evolved and manifested itself in different styles, from my introduction as a small child
One of the main aspects in communicating is listening. An effective listener is one who, not only comprehends how the speaker feels but, also understands what they are stating. Building a strong connection between the speaker and the listener is one of the first steps to become a good listener. By building this connection speakers should first be in an environment with open minded listeners, it makes them feel more comfortable to state their opinions, feelings and ideas. Listeners should avoid being judgmental. The individual does not have to agree with the ideas, values or opinions of the speaker; however, to fully understand them, one must put aside their criticism. Speakers will believe that they can trust the listeners with their information when they know that they will not be judged. Miscommunication happens frequently, listene...
The English language arose from the early Anglo Saxon inhabitants in ancient England and spread to Scotland and other European countries via the British Empire and later to the United States through colonial political and economical influences. It later dispersed to other parts of the world through these same influences to become one of the leading languages of the world. It has over the years developed by adopting different dialects to create a language, which is the standard lingual Franca in many countries. The rapid growth of the English language and its adoption by different cultures across the globe is sufficient ground to make it the global language.
Good reading skills are very important in learning languages. Reading improves spelling because as students learn to sound out letters and words, spelling comes easier. It helps to expand the vocabulary, since the best way to acquire a large vocabulary is to read. Students learn new words as they read and put them in their mind for later use. . They also unconsciously absorb the information about things like how to structure the sentences, how words are used in different contexts, and it gives a better understanding of the word usage and definitions than the cold facts of a dictionary. It improves a person’s vocabulary and knowledge without the person even knowing it. Even if students do not understand every word, they will hear new sounds, words and phrases which they can then try out, copying what they have heard. They can comprehend ideas, follow arguments and detect implications. Reading texts also provide good models for English writing. Krashen (2004) found that reading is extremely important in learning English, since it is the only way to “become a good reader, develop a good writing style, an adequate vocabulary, advanced grammar” and the only way to “become a good speller”.
Over the years English inarguably has reached a status of a global language and commonly is characterized as a lingua franca. It has become the language that is spoken by millions of people all over the world; as the mother tongue, as the language used for international communication and as the language learned in the millions of schools.
