Further, Marzano gives the reader action steps in order to implement a curriculum. One of his steps is for teachers to present content in multiple ways. It is imperative that teachers realize their classrooms are diverse. Therefore, teachers must provide different experiences for students to master content. According to Wiggins (1998), teachers providing performance tasks and rubrics are vital to student learning. Students need to know how they will be graded. Lastly, Stiggins and Chappuis (2012) say teachers should collect evidence of student learning. Providing this feedback gives students and their parents an indication of their learning.

As I read Section Two of What Works in Schools and discussed the material with my peers, it was evident that effective teachers have several of the same characteristics. We agreed with the action steps presented in the text and even added some vital measures which would directly impact our individual schools. The movie "October Sky" gives a very positive representation of a teacher. She is a role model, a friend, a source of information, a defender, and a fighter. She is portrayed as compassionate, understanding, and very beneficial in keeping the students directed toward their goals. This would seem to say that teachers need these qualities in order to fully relate to their students. A teacher can not only be there for informational needs, but must also stand behind her students and be prepared to defend their rights to discover themselves.
As I read these articles, I agreed with almost everything that was said. The Great Teacher Question: Beyond Competencies, by Edward R. Ducharme begins with a sentence that basically sums up my reason for teaching, “I begin this essay by defining a great teacher as one who influences others in positive ways so that their lives are forever altered” (Ducharme, 1991 p. 2). Over the course of a student’s education they will have many teachers, but there are maybe only one or two who are THE teacher. The teacher who impacts this child’s life in a positive way forever. After spending some time reading about effective teaching, I found that one of the key aspects that seemed to come up most was communication. I believe that as a teacher you will need to have a range of communication, interpersonal and group skills. Communication is not just about being able to speak with your students , but also include writing, reading, listening with your eyes and ears, and also body language.( Ornstein, Lasley ,2004) For effective communication a teacher must interact and communicate respect , there should always be respect for the students, Parents, Colleague’s and their network of educational professionals . I feel that listening deeply and giving credit for the student’s contributions will encourage respect from the students, a great example of this can be seen in the (Online course: Becoming a Teacher,2005). There is some debate about whether great teachers are born or made. Parker Palmer believed that it is “the human heart… [not] technique”, which is the source of a good teacher (Penn, 2008, p. 22). When I think of an effective teacher I think of my 7th grade resource teacher. She helped me not only with grades but helped me become the person I am. She was strict; there were times that I hated her and then there were days where she was my best friend. To this day she is my favorite teacher and is one of the reasons I want to be a teacher. Another point that makes a good teacher would be his/her patience. Teachers should not get upset or even worse, give up on the students who are not so strong in their studies. Instead, they should have the patience to slowly coach them, give them extra lessons, and find different ways to encourage them. Let them know that the teacher would always be by their side, helping them and guiding them along. If even the teachers do not care for them, they would not have anyone else to turn to and would eventually give up on themselves and their studies. Thus, teachers must have the patience to go on even after their students give up.
Devoted teachers are extremely important to a perfect education. The teacher is just about the most important of the three parties necessary to create a model education. Teachers have the responsibility of forming good relationships with both students and parents. Teachers must also be able to effectively communicate with both parents and students in order to ensure that there are no misconceptions or confusions about the children's educations. A good teacher is aware of any special needs that certain children may have and is able to help those children adjust to the curriculum accordingly. Although it may seem obvious, teachers need to be patient and empathetic when dealing with his or her students. The vast majority of teachers already possess these qualities. Many students, however, have complained of teachers that appear to have "no time" for their students. Teachers with an unenthusiastic attitude relay a negative feeling back to their students and that can create problems in the classroom. As mentioned earlier though, people usually won't become teachers if they are uninterested in providing an excellent education to their students.
An effective teacher is one who will never rely on one method to instruct their students, but will use a variety of methods to complement each other for a solid understanding of the lesson. This past semester I had the pleasure of observing a third-grade classroom up close and personal. I was invited to watch on as the teacher instructed her students with the Georgia Third Grade Standards. During my observation hours, the teacher faced some adversities, triumphs, some social working moments all while portraying her own pedagogy for display. I have acquired information to help me with my own classroom, and the hands-on experience was extremely informational. Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
