Rajneeshpuram was a cult from the 1980’s which was located in The Dalles, Oregon and led by Chandra Mohan Jain, also known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh or Osho. He was born in India and lived his early life there, traveling throughout and speaking publicly about his spiritual philosophy. He was infamously known for his free opinions on sexuality and was considered to be the “sex guru” (Vasant Joshi, 1982) by press all across the world. His first set of followers called themselves the neo-sannyasins and followed him to his first developed ashram in Pune, India. Due to his provocative teachings and continuing growth of the neo-sannyasins, attention was escalating in regards to government officials and community members. In attempts to avoid any legal problems, Rajneesh and the neo- sannyasins fled to Oregon State in 1981 and established what is now known as Rajneeshpuram. Although Rajneesh had a following of several thousand people, he, as a guru, was far from legitimate. His main focus in life was money, his elected leaders was full of criminals and his teachings were inexcusable.
In the eyes of Rajneesh it seemed that his teachings alone were enough of a gift to give to his people, and in return had them buy him gifts. The neo-sannyasins had used their hard earned money to buy Rajneesh multiple Rolls-Royce automobiles, with one individual stating “I wanted to buy Osho enough so that he could drive one for every day of the year”(Les Zaits, 2011). As a parent, to hear somebody tell you because your child was born with a birth defect you should euthanize him/her, would be unbearable. That should never be an option, let alone for a child who has no say.
Throughout his time teaching whether it be in Poona, India, The United State, or somewhere else in the world, he made an impact on his followers. With his love for money, horrible choice of leaders and offensive teachings, it is safe to say his impact was not for the best. Not only did he give a bad name to the neo-sannyasins, but also to the places and people he associated himself with. He was denied entry in 21 countries, before he returned to Poona, India which demonstrates that nobody wanted this man to be a part of their culture.

The word “euthanasia” comes from the Greek words “eu” meaning good or well and “thanatos” meaning death. Euthanasia means to take a deliberate action with the express intent of ending a life in order to relieve intractable suffering. Belgium has passed a law that allows euthanasia for terminally ill children experiencing “constant and unbearable suffering” who can show a “capacity of discernment”. This has sparked many debates about whether child euthanasia is moral and whether it should be legal or not. Although child euthanasia is a way for a child to escape “constant and unbearable” suffering or to avoid suffering through a terminal illness, child euthanasia should not be legal because children do not possess the mental capacity to make a request for such an irreversible decision, a child may choose to die because they fear that they are burdening others, and the requirements in place to request euthanasia may not be sufficient enough to protect against misuse.
Gandhi was a well knowledgeable and unique person who found hope in struggles that he never thought would shape who he was. Gandhi was born in a Hindu family, and even though he was the youngest he made a huge impact on others (“Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi” pg 3). He had his older brother who helped him with his education when his father passed away (“Mohandas Gandhi”). Gandhi was very religious even when he was little his brothers tried to make him eat meat (it wasn’t bad to eat meat in Hinduism when you are little), but he refused (“Mohandas Gandhi”). Gandhi respected his religion and was a respectful towards others.
Thirty-six years ago, on Nov. 18, 1978, 913 members of the People’s Temple Cult committed mass suicide in the Guyana jungle, under the direction of the Reverend Jim Jones. Most of the victims seem to have taken their own lives by ingesting grape Kool-Aid laced with cyanide, while a few had been shot. The grisly event was triggered by the ambush of U.S. Rep. Leo J. Ryan and other Americans who were attempting to investigate mistreatment of Rev. Jones’ followers; the cult apparently felt threatened by the potential repercussions of the ambush (Layton 3). In 1993, about 80 members of David Koresh's Branch Davidians died after cult members set fire to their own compound following a standoff with federal authorities. And within the past years, 74 members of a group calling itself the Order of the Solar Temple have gone to their death in Canada, Switzerland and France. In the most recent Solar Temple incident, Didier Queze, 39, a baker, his wife Chantale Goupillot, 41, her mother and two others of the faithful exploded themselves into oblivion in St.-Casimir, Quebec; they had attempted to take their three teenaged children with them, but at the last minute the three drugged teens dragged themselves out of the explosive-rigged house and hid in a storage shed. Members of the Solar Temple cult believe that the explosions that cause the fragmentation of their earthly bodies will propel them to Sirius, a star in the constellation Canus Major (Lacayo 44). And, of course, most recently thirty-nine people in matching clothes, members of the Heaven’s Gate cult in Rancho Santa Fe, California, were found lying peacefully in their beds at their rented hillside mansion, hands at their sides, dead. For many years, cult leaders always had a psychological hold on their followers' minds. Whether it was to kill other people or to kill themselves, they did it without question. Some cult leaders used fear, violence and guilt as a means of a weapon to control the minds of their followers. Other cult leaders used persuasive and spiritual speeches that made their followers believe they were doing good and fulfilling God's plan. Because cult leaders are powerful through psychological offenses, the people that belong to their cults are brainwashed into doing things they wouldn't normally do in their right state of mind.

Sometimes it is hard some parents to deal with emotions of having a child with disability. There are many aspects that come in the play, like finances, educational aspect of how much they know about this disability and how to care for a child with disability, rehabilitation and best services for the child, best and most appropriate educations placement for this child, professional help and services and stress and worry for the wellbeing of this child. Most of the burden is put on the parents once the child receives the cochlear implants to help child cope with new technological mechanic that they will have to use for the rest of their lives and the attitude that the parent take in those early years make a drastic change about how the child will feel about themselves and their disability later on in life once they start school and realize they might be different that other kids.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable… We may ignore him at our own risk.” King cited Gandhi as one of his biggest inspirations, which should come as no surprise, as Gandhi helped end racism towards as many if not more people than King himself. Gandhi pioneered the use of what he called satyagraha, or political change through nonviolence, and helped bring millions of India’s oppressed to equality. Lord Mountbatten, the last British ruler of India, is quoted as saying, “Mahatma Gandhi will go down in history on a par with Buddha and Jesus Christ.” There is no denying the truth in this statement because of the way he had a profound impact on the lives of those around him, just like these other two famous figures of history. Gandhi may have been very small man, relatively speaking, but he grew to be a giant in the eyes of the world.
A utopia is a perfect world or society. Many groups and organizations leave normal society to create their own perfect community. A dystopia is the total opposite. This can be caused when a utopia goes under total control of the leader. The Peoples Temple cult aimed to start a utopia of its own, intergating blacks and whites in a common space. Things went well until their leader, Jim Jones gauned total power over their minds and spirituality.The Peoples Temple was mostly successful. Although the followers of the cult ultimately committed a mass suicide, mostly the group gained many followers and helped to integrate hospitals and churches, during a time where America was segregated.

Many people practice or research medicine for the altruistic reasons and derive pleasure and a purpose in life by restoring the injured and sick to proper health. If a potential treatment can be developed by doctors and researchers to restore people in vegetative states to normal cognitive levels, it would be considered wrong to allow such a person to die because, like an infant, there exists the chance for them to develop an ability to function as long as research is continued to find a way to reverse such a condition.

Scientology is a religion that was created in 1952 by L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature, and aims to bring humans back to that nature. (What is scientology, 4) This religion aims to give you tools and ways to find out more about who you are as an individual. Scientology has since grown into a world wide organization/religion. Due to the fact that it is a newer religion they do not have any branches (Scientology.org, Official Church of Scientology: Beliefs & Practices) so this paper will discuss scientology as a whole. One of the most interesting things about this very complex religion is that you can be both Scientologists and another religion. The eastern religion of Jainism has its origins thousands of years in the past. The principles and laws that Jains adhere to are based upon the teachings of the Jinas, or Tirthankaras- those who have achieved liberation from the cycle of rebirth. There are twenty four of these conquerors for each world cycle; one world cycle consists of hundreds of thousands of years. Mahavira is the most recent and final Jina of our present cycle; born in 599 B.C.E.. Thirty years into his lifetime, he felt that the gods were pushing him into a new reformation of living, different from that of his previous order, Parsvanatha. Thus, Mahavira spent the next twelve and a half years participating in what came to be known as the Great Renunciation. In this time, he resided in a forest, where he eventually renounced all earthly things; his title, his wealth, as well as food and possessions. It was during this period of harsh self-deprivation that Mahavira was convinced that “[the] most essential practise [is] ahimsa…toward every living thing”.
