Racism is a set of attitudes, beliefs, and practices that is used to justify the superior treatment of one racial or ethnic group, and the inferior treatment of another racial or ethnic group. (Kendall p.183). Racism in American society still exists in many forms. The goal of this research is to demonstrate how racism still occurs, as well as the different circumstances under which they can happen. Racism will continue to be an issue in America, as it is continuously brushed beneath the surface of civilization. When turning on the news, it is very common to hear about deaths, crimes, and other tragedies. Recently we have seen cases of law enforcements abusing their power as an officer among people and their society. In David Dante Troutt (2014), he appears to make a point with people turning their cheeks to police abuse. If they 're purpose is to serve and protect, then why is nothing being done when they are no longer protecting or serving their communities? Being familiar with the laws and your own rights could play a crucial role in developing a peaceful society. Racism is not the only factor as culture plays a role in society as well, according to David Dante Troutt (2014). Its an emotional challenge for African Americans to face discrimination from their society and local law enforcement, because they worry about their own safety and the safety of their families (Chaney and Robertson, 2013). In this time of age, we are so adapted to being around different races and ethnicities, however African Americans remain victims of racial discrimination (Chandy and Robertson, 2013).
