Racism and all the issues and problem that stems from it as been debated, argued and discussed countlessly for decades now. At this point and time, it is generally accepted that at some point the problem of racism will eventually pass and die out. That this generations-old problem will eventually be a thing of the pass that future generations will read about in their textbooks like we do about the civil war. But this is, unfortunately, not a founded belief. Just like communication, warfare, entertainment, culture and practically everything, it evolves. Racism doesn’t just vanish with time; it transforms and latches itself onto modern issues and hides in plain sight.

I’m not denying the benefits that affirmative action provides. It increases diversity in many colleges and universities. Along with that, it gives that access to opportunities that they otherwise may not have. Affirmative action also offers more protection that people of colour might experience. Now all these benefits are simply the surface, what goes on after is what is really detrimental. The people accepted in under affirmative action are usually not prepared for the situation, and that is not their fault. You cannot blame them for the lower education they received, that blame should be placed on the city, which simply provided them with an inadequate teacher and learning environment. So these people are taking classes easier than their peers, they operate in a different, usually or less strict and simpler set of rules. This in turn, may cause their peers to be angered at the special treatment that they receive, which causes more division between the groups. That what also causes the separation of these groups in the fact that affirmative action is designed to help and protect only a certain population, thus, those not covered will, by default, feel like they are being antagonized. But one of the biggest problem that we face today is the fact the appropriation, an act in which it downplays the significance of a culture or race, is being downplayed itself. Many in today’s world still don’t accept that appropriation is a real problem. They thing that these are just very common things that should happen, which is the exact outcome of cultural appropriation that so many minorities fear, the privileged taking the image of the oppressed for other uses. These people who think that don’t even consider themselves to be racist or a bigot, even though their action are cheapening another human being’s culture. This is how racism has evolved, to the point where it is so integrated into the minds of so many that it doesn’t even occur to them that what they are doing is extremely degrading to another. What we need to learn, instead of arguing back and forth among ourselves on what is and what isn’t cultural appropriation is to step back and ask the culture that is in question here and ask whether or not they think their culture is being respected through this tattoo, this costume, the performance, this hairstyle and more. We can see that no matter how far racism is rooted and no matter how different it is from 50 years ago, that
