Throughout my life I’ve never really witnessed any traumatizing social issues. I live in a community that’s inhabited by people of the same racial and socioeconomic status, so despite being a lower income Hispanic I usually am accepted in my community because my social standing is common in my society. Yet, as I’ve gotten older and have been opened to the injustices of the social world, I’ve noticed some past and current events of discrimination due to my race that I’ve received from others outside my normal social environment. I treat others respectably because although there are some whites that believe in outdated notions that they are the superior race, there are those that are respectable and considerate of others. There are white Americans that care for the less privileged and abused people of the world, so I have slowly drifted from my preconceived thought that a healthy and respectful relationship couldn’t be established with someone from a different race than my own. But currently I feel that discrimination between different racial groups is rising in America due to the offensive messages that are being broadcast nationally from Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. He exclusively uses illegal immigrants from Mexico as scapegoats for American crimes and denounces various other races. His backward notions are in the national headlines practically every day, the progress this country has made to attempt racial equality seems to be depleting thanks to him. I try to cope with this discrimination towards the people of my race and of others by hoping the people of America will be wise and stop supporting him. I’m thoroughly afraid for America’s future when watching his rallies and how his protestors of color are treated.
