Overview of Boredom Essay

- Arthur Schopenhauer once said that “If life — the craving for which is the very essence of our being— were possessed of any positive intrinsic value, there would be no such thing as boredom at all: mere existence would satisfy us in itself, and we should want for nothing,” but apparently it doesn’t because there is boredom. Is something wrong with being or is something awesome with us. Nearly two hundred years ago in a letter to his father Giacomo Leopardi said “ Boredom is the most sublime of all human emotions because it expresses the fact that the human spirit, in a certain sense, is greater than the entire universe....   [tags: Understimulation]

- Symbol, Allusion, and Myth in Irving Layton's Rhine Boat Trip        "...haunted/by the ghosts of Jewish mothers/looking for their ghostly Children" (Layton). Though physical evidence of the Holocaust is now slightly limited, as time tends to destroy the tangible, the cry for justice and the remembrance of systematic genocide by a sadistic people enacting ignorant dogma will ring indefinitely throughout the world. Humanity will always be guilty of the atrocities that it instigates. Irving Layton, in his poem, Rhine Boat Trip, depicts the eternal evidence of the Nazi Crime, a stain of culpability that is reducible from all who have witnessed it....   [tags: Rhine Boat Trip Essays]

The Ski Trip Essay

- I was the first person to ski off of the chairlift that day; arriving at the summit of the Blackcomb Mountain, nestled in the heart of Whistler, Canada. It was the type of day when the clouds seemed to blanket the sky, leaving no clue that the sun, with its powerful light, even existed anymore. It was not snowing, but judging by the moist, musty, stale scent in the air, I realized it would be only a short time before the white flakes overtook the mountain. As I prepared myself to make the first run, I took a moment to appreciate my surroundings....   [tags: Personal Narrative, Descriptive Essays, Descriptiv]
