It took me the whole forty-five minutes to work on the excel spreadsheet. The excel spreadsheet project was going really well for me until I got three quarters of the way to the end. I am really struggling on the formulas and once I pick them up I should be good.
Your year in school and when you expect to graduate. I am in my junior year at Western Michigan University. And I am expected to graduate, in my spring semester, of the year 2018.
Explain why are you taking this class? I am taking this class so I can learn the techniques needed to be successful, when managing sales employees. I am also taking this class, to become much more confident with business analytics. I feel like when it comes to business analytics, that is my weak point.

The second thing I hope to learn from this class is how to look at business analytics effectively well breaking them down at the same time. The third thing that is important to me is becoming more confident when speaking to another person about business manners. These three things are really important to me because I know that I will really need these techniques further down the road.
What personal characteristic(s) do you possess that are a strength(s) and/or weakness(es) in managing others? I possess many different characteristics that I believe would be strengths when it comes to managing others. A few of my strengths would be, that I can effectively communicate with others, I have the organization skills needed to manage people, and that I can stay calm when under pressure. These three characteristics are important when managing people in today’s world, because you have to be able to communicate effectively, and be organized, to be a successful company.
How do you typically react to stress? I typically react to stress in a very calm and organized manner, which many people do not have the ability to do. When I am dealing with stress, I take a step back and look at what I am stressed about, and find a way to deal with it. When looking at ways to deal with it, I always look for the way that will benefit me in the long run, not just in the short
I found this case study particularly interesting; in retrospect this class would have been extremely helpful prior to starting my husband’s business. I now see the importance of having a clear financial plan and projection, along with a strong command of your market share. My husband and I have been able to muddle through the areas were did not know or understand in running a business, but prior knowledge would have been a valuable
My favorite assignment is the Industry Profile Report. This assignment allow myself to browse through companies that maybe one day I will be working for and see what jobs are open. I really appreciate this assignment.
One of my greatest skills is being able to be compassionate towards others. By placing myself into someone else’s shoes, I find myself being able to better understand where other people are coming from. I am an extremely caring person that will go to great lengths for anyone. I can easily overlook the differences in other people, and this is what helps me get along with almost anyone that I come across. In order to lead people in a positive direction you need to be able to relate to them on a more personal level. It is much easier when people feel comfortable around their leader. I always like to lend a helping hand or even a shoulder to cry on when it is needed. My strengths include integrity, optimism, faith, innovation, and adaptability. These strengths are important to have in leadership positions. Leaders should have a firm hold on their beliefs and morals in order to have a positive impact on people. Keeping my commitments is crucial to me, because I am a woman of my word. I think this is a good trait in leadership, because people need to be able to count on the person that they look up to. Optimism is also something I value. I belie...
The first trait that displays a great connection to my strengths is enthusiasm. I believe that the trait of enthusiasm is when a person displays excitement and positivity toward their task. Scott Lilienfeld mentions that the most well-known public and political leaders have an enthusiasm trait. He also mentions that successful political leaders show this trait because they are the face of politics and without their positive and excitement towards their task, they wouldn’t not become great leaders that thousands of people follow (Lilienfeld, 2012). I believe this relates well to my strengths such as being futuristic and focusing because political leaders don’t only focus on the present, they focus on the future. In order to focus on the future, you must have these strengths that I have been given via the assessment. In another study by Moursa Khaireddin, he talks about leadership and leadership style in branch manages of banks at the Hashemite Kingdom in Jordan. Most of the traits in this article focus on the fear of being a great leader but he mentions a positive trait dominance. He describes the required skill in branch managers by saying that many mangers fail because fail to keep dominating (competition) as the number one focus (Khaireddin, 2015). The trait that appears to require in order to succeed in management can be
What did you learn from this course? List at least 5 of them and discuss how you plan to use them for your work/home/relationships.
Remaining approachable-when I have been hurt, abused, or mistreated too many times, I have a tendency to shut down. Leaders must have thick skin to take the talk and disagreements that will occur.
At the beginning of the semester my outlook on this course was not so good. I was not looking forward to giving speeches or learning things that seemed like common sense, but as time went on I could tell that I was actually taking things away from it. I have learned that I am not so good at coming up with things to say under pressure and I get extremely nervous when I have to talk in front of people that I don’t know well. Oh wait, I already knew those things. This class has motivated me to strengthen my social skills and has also taught me how to effectively work in a team environment through the team communication consultant project. I will show this by analyzing my teams strategic plan, the cohesiveness of the team, and the productivity of the team.
I would describe some of strengths as being able to define clear objectives when working in group settings whether it is in the working world or in academic settings and communicating clearly to the rest of the people in my group when I am in the lead or not. I communicate clearly to other people what I want to achieve out of working in a group, but also what I want them to achieve themselves. As a leader it is imperative that I allow other people in the group to learn and grow along with the rest of the group. I enjoy defining clear objectives when I am a leader and not a leader because it provides the rest of my peers an efficient way of working together. If the objectives are not clear and concise then the productivity of the group will
I want to be a better person, and it is because of this class that I was finally able to figure out how to go about doing just that. I know how to learn. I know that if I am going to learn in an effective manner I have to do things hands on. I have learned that my way isn’t always the best way. When it comes to solving a problem, I have to be open and willing to actually hearing the other side of the situation instead of plotting my defense in my head. I have learned that thinking critically isn’t something that is learned and mastered overnight. To apply critical thinking effectively I have to be able to be aware and practice the steps every single time. After I graduate and walk away with my Bachelor’s Degree, I want my success to continue. I want to be able to take what I have learned and apply it to my Project Manager career. For me, Academic Success will not end when that diploma is in my hand. As long as I have goals and strive to reach and set new goals, academic success will forever be in my
Two strengths I learned during my Self Awareness assessment were being a good listener and showing loyalty. I really try to be a good listener in all situations. I like to hear the whole story or complete process in whatever it may be. I am cautious about making decisions without having all the details. I don't mind taking the time out to get the details. Yes, it may take some time up front and may not lead to a quick decision but in the long run it prevents mistakes and errors as well as misjudging which can lead to more heartache and pain down the road. Loyalty is also very important to me in the work center. Knowing that you are devoted and committed to the success of the organization will motivate your people to do the same. They also need to know that they can come to you with a problem whether it is personal or work related. This will allow them to be more open to bringing problems to your attention that could later have a disastrous effect on the organization in the future. Both pers...
"Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to both good and bad experiences which can be beneficial to your health and safety." The new year begins and Learning Strategies is on your schedule. Truly, you are probably not knowing what to expect and you think that this class is not for you. Boy, are you wrong. This class will save you plenty of time, so you better listen closely. At the end, you will leave the class wondering why no one ever showed me this. So listen up! The three most useful things that I learned in this class are: my learning style, how to take notes when reading a textbook, and how to be a more successful student at college.
Taking this class this semester has really changed the way that I have viewed myself when it has come to work and the different companies that I have worked before. I have taken a psychology class before but I have never taken one that relates to management and organizations. This class has really helped me answer different questions such as why I was unhappy at some jobs, enjoyed some managers over others, and what motivated me to work hard at jobs. It’s good to learn that there are different terms and definitions for different feeling and things I experienced at jobs to know that their other people experiencing these things also. I will be going into a management position after I graduate, and this class helped me to learn many different ways to go about managing and things to avoid to keep a positive working environment.
This class was the first opportunity I had to learn about the event planning industry. I knew that it took a lot to put together an event, but I had never fully realized how much actually goes into it. As a hospitality major, event planning is a necessary skill to have even though I do not plan to become an event planner. If I had the option to start working in this industry tomorrow, there would be several things that would either help or hinder me.
This class helped me to become more aware of my weaknesses. I recommend this module to all students. The resources helped me to understand how I could become more effective and to realize my own strengths and weaknesses regarding my skills and working in a group environment. I found the Business Ethics principles an inspiring module. I think everyone should learn these principles.
