1. Skiing:
I spent the first 15 years of my life in the mountains of Vermont, yet skiing was not my biggest passion. Both of my parents ski and I was given professional instruction as a kid, but I never loved it. I spend time outdoors in the winter, but I now choose to spend my time snowshoeing, ice fishing, and winter camping. My interest in the gear associated with skiing and snowboarding is fueled by my friends, all frequents to the mountain. I have considered getting back into skiing, especially if I’m in an environment like Utah.
2. Climbing:
The only climbing experience I have is free-climbing in Michigan. The rocks I have climbed are so small it should be considered hiking, but I am looking to start climbing.
3. Trail Running:
I have used outdoor activity to get myself into better shape. It has been a process, I spent many years abusing my health, but I know that a gym membership could have never got me off the couch. I’ll never understand running on a treadmill.
4. Paddling:
The water will always be my first outdoor love. Growing up in Vermont I spent every weekend on Lake Champlain and all the time between on local lakes, ponds, and rivers. I own and use both a canoe and two kayaks. I prefer to fish from these, b...

...ise. I will attend the gym 3-4 times a week for weight training and cardio. I will try to play tennis once or twice a week. I believe that by adding more fun into my exercise routine I will stick to it. There are so many benefits to exercising. One of the benefits is being healthier early on will mean living a long healthy life and avoiding illness. Making your body stronger will build the immune system. The biggest benefit for me is that it is a way to relieve stress which will intern improve my anxiety attacks.
Working out doesn't have to be a chore, it can actually be a place of peace and comfort. Exercising has been changed from a social norm to an activity on the
Since the completion of my training program I have had students of varying ages, disabilities and skiing levels. They have provided many new learning experiences for me. Without a doubt I have consistently observed the pleasure this sport gives to the students and their families. Physical and mental growth are very important to the overall well being of the student. Sharing my skills and love of skiing has been fun and rewarding to me.
The first activity I participate in is DECA. DECA is a youth business competition, and I have been a member of my school's chapter for three consecutive years. I am currently Vice President for the 2015-2016 school year. I have competed regionally and provincially in the categories of Business Services Marketing, Quick Serve Restaurant Management and Franchising Entrepreneurship. Along with qualifying for provincials I have placed top ten in my category. As Vice President I delegate tasks, plan and carry out meetings, organize fundraisers, train members and attend conferences.
80 countries have some form of ski area. Also, for the past 4 years skier visits have been estimated at around 400 million. Alpine, Cross-country and telemark are all types of skiing and at least one of them is likely to interest anyone.
One snowy Christmas day in Muskegon, Michigan, a young girl by the name of Wendy Poppen tried to stand up on her sled while sliding down the hill. Seeing this, her father Sherman ran into the garage and bolted a pair of skies together with wood to ""act as foot stops"" (Crane). While watching Wendy use the contraption, some of the local kids ran up to Sherman and asked him to build one for each of them. Little did he know that he had given birth to the “fastest growing winter sport” (Prosl) known as snowboarding. The history, simplicity, and rate of growth of snowboarding took the sport from being completely banned from ski resorts, to being accepted worldwide with its Olympic debut in 1998.
At the age of three, my family knocked down down our cabin on Rush Lake and built a house. I am extremely glad my parents made that decision because living there has set up the foundation of my life and who I am today. My favorite things to do growing up on a lake was fishing, catching frogs, swimming, and waterskiing. Even though we didn’t live very close to any of our relatives anymore, I made many new friends there.
Skiing has been a huge part of my life. Ever since I was young, I would always venture out to the mountains and go skiing. What makes skiing a lot of fun is the environment you get to be a part of. Every hill you go up to, there's always new surroundings you get to interact with. Aside from the environment, one of the primary reasons I love skiing is because I ski race. I am able to compete against others for the fastest time by completing a course. So, when I was in middle school, I signed up for the ski team. Once a week, I was able to practice my skills and improve my time by competing. It became a part of my lifestyle. It taught me that improving myself will lead to success.
If you remember playing in the snow as a child, you probably want your own children to have the same experience. Even if you only remember sledding and snowball fights from televised Christmas specials and Normal Rockwell paintings, it’s not too late to get out there with the next generation and have a blast. Skiing, snowboarding, and even snow tubing are popular and fun family activities, but if you want to spend quality time with your family in a natural wintry setting, nothing beats snowshoeing. Snowshoeing has been around for as long as people have had to travel across deep snow, but it has recently gained popularity among families who want to enjoy nature together all year long. As a bonus, snowshoeing provides a terrific low-impact workout.
Skiing, as a sport has existed since the early 1800’s, although depictions of skis have been discovered throughout Europe dating back thousands of years. Skiing as a recreational activity became popularized in the mid 1800’s however it did not arrive in the United States until around 1841. Once the concept of skiing reached the states, it took off. The United States continued to power advances in skiing for decades, with the introduction of rope tows, then actual ski lifts. By the 1950’s several ski areas had begun snowmaking and trail grooming, two American born inovatio9ns which ensured better skiing conditions and launched the US far ahead of Europe in ski technology (Fry 38). Skiing continued to evolve throughout the 1900’s, constantly changing and adapting to improve athlete performance and recreational experiences. Skis and equipment changed quickly and frequently, ski bindings, which...
Many people believe that the only way they can get a good workout is by going to the gym, but that is incorrect. Many people can exercise right in their homes, or even at their local park. Many parks offer tracks where people can run, walk, or even ride their bikes. It’s a great way to enjoy the outside, and get some fresh air. There are a variety of free exercise videos online that people can do in the comforts of their home. Anybody can fit exercising into their daily schedule, because you can literally do it
People are too overwhelmed to think that it would benefit them. Even taking a jog would require too much of an effort. Because of society’s obligations, the worries of an average everyday routine bring them devastation. It becomes difficult to try to find time within their schedules to squeeze in a time to run. Adding exercise on their to-do list would result in more pressure while trying to reduce stress is the last priority on their mind. However, if they were able to manage their time and duties, making time to get involved in a cardio workout would not be a problem. They would be able to experience the true benefits of exercise and see how it could translate into reducing stress in their lives.
Spending time in the outdoors and getting in some healthy exercise tend to go hand in hand. From a gentle walk in the woods to canoeing in a lake to hitting the trails in our national or state parks, the great outdoors
Outdoor recreation has been around for more than 80 centuries. Throughout the years, outdoor recreation has evolved in many different aspects. Outdoor recreation began as a tool for survival strategies, such as hunting and fishing. As the years have passed, people went on to hunt and fish as a form of recreation. As a population, we can concur that outdoor recreation has many positive attributes such as personal satisfaction and enjoyment, as well as negative aspects that could amount to the costly engagement in outdoor recreation activity.
Exercising is a popular activity for people around the world, but many people exercise indoors when they should be going outdoors for added benefits. Exercising outdoors can make people more committed to a workout program than an indoor workout plan, and their motivation levels increase (Lacharite-Lemieux, Brunelle, & Dionne, 2015). Working out outdoors will improve a person’s overall psychological (mental) health, more so than normally exercising, which already has psychological and physiological benefits (Hug, Hartig, Hansmann, Seeland, & Hornung, 2009). Obesity rates in America are high and getting people to stick to an exercise program would help fight unhealthy obesity (Gladwell, Brown, Wood, Sandercock, & Barton, 2013). Finally, if a
