The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN’s) goal is to prepare future nurses with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes (KSAs) that are needed to continuously improve the quality and safety of the healthcare systems within which they work. QSEN focuses on six main competencies; patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics. As we have learned in earlier classes these competencies and their KSAs offer a base to help us and other nurses as we continue our education and become RNs. At this time their cultural and ethnic preferences become aware to us and it is our responsibility to be competent enough to understand in order to respect and advocate for their preferences. It is important that all team members are aware of their role within the group and that they are performed correctly to meet their goal. For example, at a nursing home a nurse and a CNA work closely together. As the CNA is preforming ADLs he/she is able to assess the patient for any problems that the resident may be having. The nurse is then made aware of any problems and may ask the CNA to assist in a situation such as turning the resident in order to administer a shot. By working together the medical staff are able to reach set health goals and help the patient more efficiently. Nurses are key components in health care. Their role in today’s healthcare system goes beyond bedside care, making them the last line of defense to prevent negative patient outcomes (Sherwood & Zomorodi, 2014). As part of the interdisciplinary team, nurses have the responsibility to provide the safest care while maintaining quality. In our information-based technological age computers give us access to both accurate and inaccurate information. So using the best-quality evidence that has been replicated with success in research is the key to making best practical decisions. The main feature of evidence-based practice is to link current research findings with patients` conditions. It involves judicious use of best evidence to make a decision on the proper care of individuals to get the best results.
Evidence-based practice (EBP) is an interdisciplinary approach to clinical practice that many organizations are being utilized. “The benefits of EBP, including greater cost effectiveness, and better patient safety, clinical outcomes, and patient and staff satisfaction are widely acknowledged” (Embedding a culture of evidence-based practice, page 14). In this paper, I will discuss how evidence-based practice is being utilized in the organization I work for, how nurses at the bedside are encouraged to participate in planning and implement evidence-based changes and what factors are available for nurses to use when implementing evidence-based practice. I will also discuss how nurses can suggest or help improve evidence-based practice and sustain a positive environment for EBP.

Some research shows a connection between teamwork and reduced incivility in the workplace because a good team establishes a level of trust and effective communication, therefore, allowing nurses to feel empowered and supported (Logan, 2016, p. 48). Teamwork produces healthier environments with better healthcare outcomes. It is essential for staff to be proactive by attending staff meetings and committees such as shared governance and learn how to become effective mentors for new nurses.
Because nurses are the largest group of healthcare providers, they are in the best position to improve patient safety and quality of care. While teaching and preparing students to become nurses, nurse educators have a very important role in helping to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of upcoming nurses related to patient safety.
