Pursuing Medicine in America

Largely Personal Born to a middle class family, in a village located some two hundred miles away from the capital city and deep in the mountains, a family that was otherwise totally dependent on farming for survival, the dream of acquiring a good education was but a farfetched dream, had it not been for the constant inspiration of a loving family, who not just instilled the importance of academics into my growing conscience but also urged me on to aspire, to perform and to persevere despite the straining circumstances that constantly troubled my family.

The experiences of my late grandfather definitely had an important part in my decision to opt for a medical education. I still remember the day from my childhood when they rolled off the bandages of my grandfather's cataract ridden eyes and he was able to see clearly again. His happiness knew no bounds and this was a profound experience, seemingly a miracle to a child's eyes. It was of course, years later, when I graduated from high school that the prospect of joining a medical school became possible for me, when I learned of the Government Scholarship for Medical Schools for merit students. I took the exam, and based on my scores, I was awarded a scholarship to study medicine in one of the country's most known medical institutes.

These things always nagged me and my passion to work in the place with full resources and sub-specialty increased.

This brings me to my current endeavor. I believe that a residency program and further sub-specialty in internal medicine in the United States is probably the best I could wish for. The medical practice is leading edge and evidence based, the treatment modalities are the best in the world. I love spending time with my patients, and I am a punctual and disciplined individual. A residency in Internal Medicine would help me achieve that goal, and given the opportunity, I shall prove myself to be an invaluable asset to the institute that I join for my academic pursuit.
