It is very critical in our current Canadian society that individuals rights are being upheld, but at the same time so is the law. My belief is that our current society does an average job with upholding individuals right with comparison to the law in certain cases. Our government’s reputation is one of loyalty, honesty and integrity; at times it appears that the government isn’t living up to their name. Within in our society members of law enforcement agencies are critically trained in making sure that they don’t infringe upon someone’s rights while they are maintain law and order within society. If an act of civil rights has occurred it gets investigated, there are times when an individual is properly punished and there are also situations in which they are not. In Canada there are accusations that individuals civil rights are being violated while the law is being upheld. No case involving human rights violation in accordance with upholding the law is ignored. Each cased gets assessed based on its priority and final decisions get reached. My conclusion is that cases that involving protection an individuals rights in accordance to the law all get investigate by the book. Unfortunately, at the end of this processes some situations aren’t assessed properly, this show society that upholding the law is more important. Governments, groups and societies need to ensure that protection of rights in comparison to upholding law are both get equal attention. It is very critical that this occurs because it will result in a fair and justifiable system, which will benefit society.

In fact, the chief stated that he commends them for their actions, as the job of a police officer isn’t always easy. Clearly the Victoria police force believes that upholding the law is more important than and individuals freedoms. This is a critical problem and it needs to be dealt with, as the job of the police is to protect individuals’ rights, but at the same time uphold the law. The Victoria police failed protect and or consider Tyler’s rights in the situation discussed above, yet they didn’t fail to uphold the law. Law authorities need to learn the critical value of protecting individuals’ rights and at the same time upholding the law to the best of their ability.
