In order to effectively be able to analyze the need for flexibility in the work place in regards to work shifts, it is important to research the pros and cons. Analyzing the pros and cons will help with the decision making process about whether or not flexibility of work shifts should be allowed in the work place. When allowing employees to work different shifts, Scheduling meetings can be difficult as you will need to be mindful of everyone’s time for meetings. A meeting may need to be scheduled to discuss something very important within the company and everyone may not be available whereas if everyone were in an office setting management could just call everyone into a conference room and discuss the matter at hand. Also, when employees have different schedules it may be difficult to evaluate each employee and develop a scale to rate each employee. A way to solve this would be to set and establish goals with each of the employees and then have monthly meeting with them in order to track their progress for those specific goals. By setting and establishing goals performance would not have to be tracked compared to peers but rather individually based on what was established at the beginning of the year. When it comes to promotions and being able to promote employees, it could be difficult for management to review employees work and consider them for promotion. Based on the observation above, the pros could outweigh the cons and there is a solution that could be made available to every con listed.
