Around ten years ago, the idea of a social network was revolutionary. Fast forward ten years, and it has become the norm; from the time we wake up in the morning until closing our eyes at night, social media has become a huge aspect of our daily lives. Social media is facilitating a platform for majority of events, parties, and just keeping in touch with people. When stopping to think about all the benefits social media is providing, one cannot help but wonder if social media is having a negative impact on society? While there are many pros to social media, a person must ask himself or herself if the cons are worth the pros? Or as I like to put it, is the juice worth the squeeze? To begin with, I’d like to explore some of the pros of social media. Firstly, social media allows you to make connections with other people that you wouldn’t have connected with otherwise. Secondly, it allows people to connect with old friends, especially friends overseas. There are a number of friends that I grew up with that I wouldn’t have anything to do with if not for social networks, such as Facebook. Thirdly, there are many shy people out there who are socially awkward, and not so good at making friends; but with the rise of social media, they now have a comfortable way to communicate, even allowing for people with disabilities to have a social life. Fourthly, social media gives people a platform to broadcast messages to thousands, and potentially millions of people with the push of a button. This has allowed people and/or groups to get their message across instantly. For example, there was once an American graduate student named James Karl Buck, who was in Mahalla, Egypt, covering an anti-government protest when he got arrested. On the way to the ... ... middle of paper ... ...teach their kids the risks of social media, and what to look out for. For example, the use of privacy settings—explain to them the dangers of being careless about what people can see; think twice before posting comments, photos, or videos. In other words, by being educated about the risks of social media, a person is able to make the right choices that will allow for a pleasant experience, while using social media. Accordingly, if we exercise some precaution, and common sense, while using social media, the pros will outweigh the cons. Works Cited Simon, Mallory. It has been forty three years since the first email was delivered; since then, our ways of communication have changed. We are now living in a society in which almost everybody is provided with a piece of communicating technology to keep in touch with each other. Social networking service, a platform for people who want to share interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections over the Internet, has deeply affected our life in many ways. The debate as to whether the influences are positive or negative has been a controversial issue since 72 percent of all internet users are now active on social media (22 Social Media Facts and Statistics You Should Know in 2014). So, how does social media affect our lives? Speaking for myself, I think social networking is slowly damaging our everyday life by crawling into our personal life, turning into a deadly weapon, and becoming a dangerous addiction and distraction.
Brian Solis the author of Engage: The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web once said “Social media spark a revelation that we, the people, have a voice, and through the democratization of content and ideas we can once again unite around common passions, inspire movements, and ignite change” (INSERT CITATION).
The younger individuals of this society typically claim that social media is an advantage in today’s world while the older individuals typically argue that social media is putting our future societies at a disadvantage and that the younger generation is simply “too invested” in social networking and technology. A few simple concepts that have both pros and cons would include
Social Media plays a big role in today’s society and it is the way in which most people get by seeing as it is used on a daily basis. Social Media are websites where individuals interact with one another and share information. Social Media benefits society and harms it at all at once. It benefits society by allowing businesses to advertise freely, individuals to pursuit their musical careers and for news to spread quickly. On the other hand, Social Media harms our society because it is a distraction from education and is the cause of cyberbullying. Therefore, Social media is not benefitting society because it is slowly poisoning it by being a distraction from education and ruining lives.
Social Media has impacted many people in the world today, in a positive and negative way. Positive effect on social media is that you can meet new people from all over the world, make new friends. But, there are also negative effects such as cyberbullying and sexual predators. Social media involves from making new friends, to having to go through cyberbullying and sexual predators and other troubles.
When the topic of social media is brought up in our society, most teens would rave about how wonderful it is, or how much it has changed their lives. But is social media really a good thing to teens and young adults in our society? Social media is indeed not beneficial to our society, it is hurtful to the young people who have made it a part of their lives. It is hurtful because it consumes your life, it makes you rely on others for approval, and we are missing out on life’s experiences. Although, many of us assume we only use our phones for necessary tasks.
Can excessive use of social media contribute to addictive behavior (drugs, tobacco, alcohol) or mental health issues? As we all know social media has become a pretty big resource in our society. In 1971, the first email was delivered. More than 40 years on, social media has taken the world by storm. ”These sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are being used by ‘one of four’ people worldwide” (2014, paragraph 1), if not more. Social media is able to be used on so many sources. From a computer at home, work or school, to cell phones, tablets, and iPods on the street, where ever you go. It is not a lie to say that connection to the internet is now one of the easiest things to do, because most everyone has internet (Wi-Fi). If it is at
Compare the two sides: There are a couple positive aspects that social media brings into communication but most affects are negative. Sure it gives an easier and quicker form of catching up with one another, but soon this is going to turn into the only thing people do. Everyone is soon going to cut out the face to face interactions and emotional connections with each other because technology is forming a simpler way to do things. Simpler is not always the right way.
When you think about social media what do you think of. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Vine. Well social media is more than that. Social media is not just Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Social media is any online website that lets you interact with other people, share photo and information and keeps you updated. Or do you think about how it’s made a positive or negative impact on today’s society. In my personal opinion I think social media has made both positive and negatives impacts on today’s society .Some of the negative impacts are cyberbullying and addiction, and the positive impacts are spreading the word and increasing business sales.
Social media has nothing but negative effects on people’s minds. Social networking can become very addicting and people can get wrapped up in the drama and excitement of the cyber world. It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.

Social media can be used in our days as a very helpful tool for many things in changing any person’s life ant attitude. It has a positive impact on the society level. These media will keep the person socially active and open to all what happened in the world. Sharing the latest news, photos, finding new friends and knowing the culture. With the way the world is now it should not be a surprise to anyone that social media has literally taken over the world in this day and age. From late 2008 to early 2009 the size of Facebook users doubled from 100 million to 200 million in eight months, and was already up to 400 million by early 2010. Twitter also raised its number of users in 2009 from 4.5 million to 20 million (Zandt). These numbers just show what Facebook and Twitter have accomplished. Other social media sites that are getting more and more popular are Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest, and many others social media websites that people use on a daily basis. With one in four people using social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, it is no wonder that all of these social media websites are considered to be important (Whiteman). With a few clicks of a button or taps on a screen, a person can be connected to family and friends in every corner of the world. Social media can even allow people to see what their favorite celebrities are doing with their lives. According to Honor Whiteman,”Social media defines an array of internet sites that enable people from all over the world to interact.
