The implementation of team building increased partnership and sense of belonging between staff.
However, as I read more literature about conflict competence and management during this course, I realized how vital this skill is when beginning to transition off the floor and going into management roles. Participating in team collaboration to increase better work flow is important in maintaining organization. The democratic style delegates others on issues and requires the leader to participate in the decision making, but also develop relationships with staff. The laissez-faire style is a more passive approach to leadership, and the leader decides to have staff make decisions. I feel this style can be used in certain situations for nurses to decide on situations that may affect their work environment or work flow on the unit. For example in my current employment the concept of a lean board similar to a huddle process, gives nurses a chance to verbalize concerns, issues or recommendations to improve flow of the unit. The lean board is a type of communication board that staff can write on paper specific concerns and put it on the board. This increases communication among staff, and provides visual progression of concerns that are pending to be resolved and addressed. The concerns are written by staff and rarely anonymous. The leadership style used to do the lean board is both democratic and laissez-faire. The charge nurse begins the lean the board and reads concerns written by staff and addresses other staff members about their opinions about the situation or concern. The end result is staff makes the final decision on how things can be resolved or remain in pending status. Staff may
