Teachers went on strike virtually every six months due to non-payment salaries for months. If not for the fact that my dad was a well to do civil engineer, we would have lived from hand to mouth. These were the primary reasons why teaching as a profession was not contemplated by me growing up. What changed my mind, was the fact that I enjoy teaching, and there is an unquantifiable satisfaction I get from it knowing that I have solve someone’s problem. While I was in college, I tested myself to see if I am indeed a good teacher by working part time as a tutor in an after-school program for both elementary and high school students. The grades of my students improved, and that was the moment I started considering teaching as a profession because it comes effortless to me; over time I develop a genuine passion for teaching. I derived inspiration for teaching from my Biology teacher in high school. His approach to teaching made the class fun and enjoyable such that we seemed not to have enough of his classes and we were always looking forward to his next class. In spite of ...

Including all these forms of learning methods in my teaching style ensures that no student is left behind in my class. In my microbiology classes, when infectious disease are being discussed, I put my degree in public health to work. I educate my students on why some diseases such as the sexually transmitted diseases are of great concern to public health. This is the Reconstructionist aspect of me coming to the fore. I used the class as an opportunity to educate my students on their role as a stakeholder in public health and to let them know that we are all a piece in the puzzle of making our world a safer place when it comes to infectious diseases. While I do show some traits of the other philosophical views the aforementioned three are the most applicable to me.
