It is easy to lose sight of the process that Apple needs to go through to build a final product like an iPhone because as consumers, we only consume. This process of going from raw materials to the final product is known as operations management. The inputs for companies like Apple include: human labor, material and parts, energy, and the machinery and equipment needed to produce the final. In terms of the transformation process, Apple needs to consider the manufacturing and assembly required to produce its products. After the gathering of raw materials and manufacturing the final product, Apple needs to sell its products through its website, Apple stores, and third party vendors like Best Buy. The ultimate goal of any company is to have an effective transformation process that transforms raw materials into finished products that maximizes shareholder value. For the purpose of simplicity, we will focus on the transformation process of Apple and its main product; the iPhone. We will focus on the iPhone because Apple uses the same suppliers and manufacturers for its other products including the iMac, iPad, iWatch, and iPod.
