One major problem with teaching world history is that there is no consensus on how it should be taught. In an article by Ross E. Dunn titled “The Two World Histories”, many problems are outlined. One major problem outlined in the article is that there are currently two different camps of thought on how to go about teaching world history, one camp consist of scholars and academic historians who believe that world history should be taught from a whole planet perspective as well as develop and promote Advance Placement world history programs in schools . The second camp is a much larger group consisting of everyone else who has a stake in education and is divided into two separate spheres of influence which have a lot of infighting over how world history should be taught. One camp in this subdivision thinks world history should be taught based on the view of a western political influence in order to promote patriotism, and have also suggested that American history be merged with world history along with limited time spent on non-European cultures, while the second subgroup wants to focus on promoting Social Studies education dedicat...

...graduate and to fulfil credit requirements to graduate an additional 2 Social Studies credits are required. I personally did not take world history when I was in high school as it was not required and did not even take a world civilizations course until I entered college. Getting students to take world history courses when they are not required is a huge issue for world history. The simple solution would be to make at least 1 year of world history instruction a requirement.
As you can see there are many issues that plague teaching world history. From the size and scope of the subject to how much time teachers realistically have to relay the material to the students. One thing is for sure, there is no easy solution to this problem and it will take the cooperation and efforts of educators, scholars, and legislators to figure out a plausible solution to the problem.
