With my OTPF and clinical experiences, I would say an individual who is struggling with mental illness could possibly have multiple affected occupations. From what I have experienced, I believe the mental illness population struggles with occupations due to lack of drive and a good, motivational support team helping them throughout their journey. With lack of drive it affects a person’s occupational performance and limits them on their independence. Certain ADL’s could express some troubles such as personal hygiene and grooming (brushing hair, flossing teeth, using a razor, etc.), bathing and showering (using supplies such as soap and maintaining bath position), and functional mobility (having to move from place to place.) Provide modifications for their living environment, help show coping skills for managing the illness, implement healthy occupation performance patterns, and support social participations to build relationships. Psychoeducational would help teach the learning process and information to intensify awareness. This ROF is also paired with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) that looks at patterns of thinking and changing beliefs and thinking patterns. Using the PEO model will help you determine how to motivate that individual to reach their ultimate goal. It becomes much easier to provide beneficial therapy services to an individual once you know their needs, occupation(s), living environment, and most importantly, the …show more content…
It has helped me fully understand mental health and how an individual might struggle with mental illness. I will say, the semester was fast paced and very challenging at times, but it helped me focus and study everything more in depth. I loved my time at Grief Camp and what an amazing experience it was being able to help children cope with the loss of a loved one. Being able to grow together as a family at the ropes course was a good experience as well. We were all able to see how each person needed help during the tough situations. ETBH, wow, is all I can say! Thank you so much for allowing us to have a clinical rotation there. It was a joy getting to meet new faces and building relationships with patients there. The trip to the ARC was great too; I enjoyed getting to know my consumer and being able to communicate with her. I loved seeing all of their faces light up during the human pipeline activity! You could tell that they truly enjoyed our appearance there that day. Terrie, thank you so much for the wonderful time you provided for me this semester! It has truly been fun, educational, and enjoyable. Can’t wait for next semester! Thank you, Terrie, for all the hard work and dedication you put in for us students to have a wonderful learning experience during clinical
Though occupation usually refers to a job, a person’s occupation is initially determined by what their everyday life consists of. When a person becomes incapable of performing the tasks that they are expected to do in their everyday life due to developmental delays, physical injury, or psychological problems they are often referred to an occupational therapist. Occupational therapists, or OTs, usually have occupational therapy assistants, often called OTAs. The OT gives the OTA a set of objectives to help the patient achieve. Since people go through numerous occupations during the course of their lives, OT’s and OTA’s prov...
The PEOP model focus on the Person, Environment, Occupation, and Performance (Brown, C., E. 2014). In order to explain the experience of mental health, its complexity needs to be both understood and appreciated. There are diverse perspectives in mental health that are used for assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This essay will use the K272 Holistic Model to illustrate a framework that can help explain the experience of mental health. Alongside this model are the experiences of Hilary, a case study used within the course materials whose physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual/personal meaning dimensions reveal the factors that may have contributed to her mental distress (The Open University, 2010, p.31-51). The effectiveness of the medical model providing an explanation will be considered and differing frameworks of understanding will be discussed. This essay will consider the opinion of different user groups regarding the usefulness of a holistic model and whether those within a particular group have the same view.
How can at least two elements of the SEEP model be used to explain why it is important to look at more than just biological factors to understand mental health problems?

Mental diseases affect a person’s motivation and will. Illnesses of the mind can make activities that were once fun and enjoyable the complete opposite. Most people diagnosed with mental disorders become more anxious when doing certain things, have completely lost interest in what used to be preferred, become too paranoid to relax, etc. Interests and priorities seemingly change. This also brings conflict into daily routines and sets off a chain reaction in one’s life. Their normal routines are then replaced with ones that involve medications and the constant reminder of dosages, times, amounts, side effects, etc. When someone’s routines are affected, this can wreak havoc on more than just the victim of the disease. Friends, family members, jobs, and even pets have to adapt. More than that, this chain reaction can possibly trigger someone during

Reflecting back on the all the information learned this semester, I am amazed at how much I learned. Working in healthcare makes you aware of a lot of the topics that were covered, however, when you apply it to yourself, in a personal relationship, it becomes much more powerful what the impact of each topic is.
Reflecting back, this program has enriched my professional career, knowledge, and perspective of nursing in various ways. I believe I have developed advanced critical thinking and analytical skills, high EI based on learned knowledge, flexibility to accept change, and rational reasoning/knowledge to understand EBP and nursing research. The program offered me more than I had expected, in terms of knowledge, evaluation, analysis, synthesis, competency, and creativity. Each course and its innovative learning style (e.g., voice thread, youseeu, journal club, etc.) challenged, empowered, and motivated me to perform better, aim higher, and excel. Upon graduation, I intend to take a minimum six month break to enjoy quality family time and social life before embarking on a master
