As a consumer in a world where advertisements are constantly being flashed before my eyes, I am always wary over the truth of the messages that I see. False advertising is a growing trend among businesses today and unfortunately, it is not limited to just cars and material things. Consumers of every group are targeted and almost all companies are guilty of this crime. Whether deliberate or unintentional, in today’s world, you just never really know what you are getting.
Just recently, Nestle, was sued for a second time, because of false advertisements. They claimed their “Ice Mountain Water” to be natural spring water, that was filtered through mineral rich aquifers and can be traced back thousand of years to the last ice age when melting glaciers fed mountains and springs. In reality, it is just regular tap water that has been bottled and labeled. Okay, no big deal right? Well, mineral water, depending on the brand, can run around $1.50 - $2.00 more than a regular bottle of water.
