Reckless Drivers How would you feel if you lost someone close to you due to a speeding driver? Now what if that driver never got caught and he may still be out there hurting other families? People are not following the law and it’s causing families to be hurt and broken apart. It’s not that we don’t have the laws in place or that we are not enforcing them, it’s that people refuse to follow the law. The only solution is to make them follow the law. I have several proposals to solve this problem each of which is reasonable and effective.
Every year there are 1.3 million traffic deaths with traffic accidents being the leading cause of death for teenagers in America. This is slowly killing off the next generation of adults. Some of these solutions would be cheap, easy, and they would perfectly combat these speeding drivers without torturing the normal drivers. For example my snapshot proposal would restrict cars to reasonable speeds using GPS and would discourage the removal of the device but at the same time people who obey the law won’t have to fear any punishment. I believe that speed cameras would do the job but they could also cause some issues such as accidents because the drivers are distracted because they are checking their speed. But these two solutions paired would make it so that people wouldn’t have to check their speedometer because they know they are under the speed limit and the government could watch and make sure there are indeed no bugs and the devices are not breaking or malfunctioning. While speeding is not the leading cause of accidents in America it is certainly a huge risk to have these reckless drivers on the road. In Houston, Texas alone there are around one hundred stoplights. Recently, a law has been drafted to place cameras on the stoplights and Houston and the surrounding suburbs. These "red-light cameras" or RLCs as they are called automatically take a picture of a vehicle breaking the law by running the stoplight and sends the owner a seventy-five dollar ticket. This method of ticketing is incredibly inefficient and should be removed. The camera system fails to notify the recipients of the tickets in a fair amount of time, does not take into account if the owner is driving, and according to the people of Houston should not even be in place. The current system that the red-light cameras are under is flawed and should be removed completely.
Each year numerous lives are lost due to careless and irrational driving. The disregard for safe driving has been a predicament to Queensland for years. Drunk Driving is defined as: Operating a motor vehicle while one 's blood alcohol content is above the legal limit set by statute, which supposedly is the level at which a person cannot drive safely. State statutes define the legal limit to be between .08 and .10 depending on what state you’re in. Every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash(MADD). That equates to 27 people every day. Which comes to a total of at least 9,855 deaths in a year. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 32% of fatal car crashes involve an intoxicated driver or pedestrian (MADD). As of right now, in society the total number of drunk driving accidents is slowly but surely increasing and if nothing is done about it, it’ll result in a tragic amount of deaths and injuries. Drunk drivers are extremely dangerous not just to oneself, but to society as well. Most if not all teens look forward to several events in their life. One of those events are getting a driver's license. This small piece of plastic is their ticket to freedom. This ticket is more than just freedom to be able to drive their friends around but also freedom from the ritual of their parents having to drive them everywhere and embarrass them in public. Also this is a freedom to the parents as well they may save more on gas from not having to drive their children around. However, some teens are not as safe as they possibly could be if they were to take a few steps to promote good driving habits. This is evident in the article “Teen Driving”, as the author gives the reader teen driving statistics, as well as explanations of programs and steps that can improve teen driving.
No matter what any politician in Washington or employee of the Federal Highway Administration may say, there is a serious and immediate problem with our nation's transportation systems. The Texas Transportation Institute has recently done several studies that have produced some very alarming results. For example, the average American spends approximately 26 hours a year stuck in traffic. Let?s think about that. The ?average? American spends this long cruising at five miles per hour and cursing at other cars around. By saying average, the study means this figure also takes into account people living in rural areas who spend maybe one hour a year stuck in traffic. That means for the majority of us, in the Phoenix area and other large cities, we spend 3 or 4 times more wasting our valuable time in traffic. The problem I am addressing today is that the privilege to operate a motor vehicle is being recklessly abused by the people of our society. In this case it will be people who lost their loved ones because of street racing. Many may not be supported of the idea because they have yet to notice all the negativity it is causing and might seemed too extreme because all these young adult are doing is street race. That is correct they are racing, but it is a fact that at some point during this races they are going to exceed the speed limits design for safety. With the introduction of the automobile in the early 1900s, laws have been instituted to protect drivers on the road. With these laws come lawbreakers who put their agenda in front of the well being of others. Is the tragic human cost worth the price for high-speed pursuits? On one side of the debate are the people who believe that pursuits should be severely restricted and abolished altogether. They say the police car seems to be the last unregulated weapon in law enforcement’s arsenal. On the other side are the ones sworn to uphold the law and consider pursuits a necessary law enforcement tool. If you go to a no-pursuit law, you are giving a blanket for the criminals to commit any crime they want and law enforcement is not going to be able to do anything about it. They will run every time because they know they will not be chased. If a person fleeing has a chance of hitting pedestrians, then you need to stop that vehicle at all costs.
Every year, thousands of teenagers receive their driver’s licenses and millions are driving on America’s roads. Ensuring their safety and the safety of others is crucial. 16 to 18 year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers in any other age group. Between 5,000 and 6,000 youth will die on our roads this year and another 300,000 will be seriously injured. America has many more young people die in traffic incidents than it does in military service, and yet there has been little political or public activity done to make this problem known to the nation.

In this accident, the leading cause of death is people under the age of 35 years old. Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accident.
Death! It’s scary to think about that especially if it happens to someone you know. The single greatest cause of accidents in the United States is the automobile. In 1991, the U. S., automobile accidents were responsible for about 49.4 percent of all accidental deaths. That is not all from speeding, but it would be higher without speed limits.
