With the development of education and the expansion of the college, an increasing number of colleges have their own campus cafeteria. Although it’s a good deed for college to develop campus culture and increase economic benefits, at the same time it also exposes some problems. Sometimes some campus cafeterias ignore whether the food is healthy and nutritional for students. At the OU campus cafeterias, there are just a few healthy food could be chosen, and the types of vegetables and fruits are too few. However, there are a lot of junk food at our campus cafeteria, like fires, hamburgers, and some roast meat. We all know that there are a lot of factors can affect the reputation of college, like academic achievement, campus facilities and so on. The campus cafeteria is part of campus facilities, if the campus cafeteria pays close attention to whether the food is nutritive or not and provide more healthy food, the cafeteria will become more popular. When the campus cafeteria becomes good enough, the reputation of college will be improved. And if our campus cafeteria have more healthy foods, it means that our cafeteria can help students gain a healthy and nutritive diet, and make students have stronger body. These benefits will also attract more students to come to the OU, because when choosing a university, students not only value the school 's academic achievement, but also consider school’s facilities conditions. And as a part of school’s facilities conditions, the campus cafeteria is also be considered by students who are selecting the university. ...College students are the next generation of food consumers just starting to purchase and prepare their own food, setting purchasing habits that will follow them into their lives as they start their own careers. These habits will shape what food is in demand, and therefore what food is produced. Not only do college students hold financial power over the future economy, but they must make the decision of whether to become the next unhealthy generation, that will also indoctrinate their children to accept the level of food quality that is currently labeled as junk food as a standard level quality of food.

When you walk into the student union or the Keathly University Center some of the first things to catch your eye will be Panda Express, Chik Fil A and a few other chain restaurants as long with many small stores with and endless supply of snacks. These are the choices allowed to the students on campus. Where many live on campus and do not have transportation, or they do not have the financial support to go out, so they are forced to dine on campus. While it is any kids dream to have a famous chain restaurant like McDonald’s in their backyard the practicality of such is slim to none, but with the advances society has made it is not only a possibility but a way of life on a college campus. Enjoying delicious desserts and fast food seem extremely magnificent to eat and spend money buying them. Although, there have been many controversies in the United States on how it’s the largest country with the most obesity regarding children, which affects their health, many people are still going throughout their day snacking. Many people in America are having full course meals with thousands of calories in one sitting not knowing the short term or long term side effects that are going to take a huge toll on their lives. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don’t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), “burgers” (meat slapped on two slices of bread), etc. Even the chicken nuggets aren’t very popular. But there are some fast food places that offer and sell some healthy stuff such as apples, and salads. We face many problems, not only with fast food but with the food we make at home that can also make people obese. The worst thing of it all is that we are letting the younger generation be changed by fast food.
My younger cousin, for one, refuses to eat anything green, unless it’s a cucumber. As we progress more and more into our culture of industrialized eating, we need to consider what we are risking in the long run. There’s actually many different things that not only college students, but the entire population, can do to help reduce our risks in the long run. For one, it would be to stop eating so frequently at these fast-food restaurants. I know many of my peers, who I went to high school with, would often go to McDonald’s for breakfast before school started.

During their college years college students develop eating habits that can follow them throughout their lives. Eating fruits and vegetables contributes to healthy young adults and possibly promotes emotional well-being (White 1). Many college students eat out because it is cheaper and faster than eating at home.
