When the words crime and criminals come to mind, one may think of those dangerous looking characters from movies or television. In reality, it can be anyone or even someone least expected.. A criminal does not have a certain description; therefore, it can vary from a co-worker, the mailman, or even one’s neighbor. There are many stories out there one hears about breaking and entering, murdering, stealing, drug using, and so on, that happens in all communities. Like the two guys from Texas who stole jewelry worth over $400,000 from different stores to feed their drug addiction (“Armed, violent, jewelry store robbers..” 2015). Some people were unfortunate to be born in circumstances in which they have no power of controlling what happened during those circumstances. Then there’s some people who deliberately commit crimes. Regardless of the reasons, it does not make it right. Throughout the years people have tried to explain what exactly causes people to engage in such abnormal behavior. A person feeling towards a specific circumstance has an impact on his/her decision. Jealousy, pride, anger, and revenge are just a few of those feelings. First and foremost, as a whole community, one should stand up and have a voice when there is something wrong. One can not act like anything is wrong then later complain that nothing is being done to help. Crime prevention should be everyone’s business, not only the police’s. When something bad is going on in a small neighborhood, one should not be quick to blame it on someone else. It can be a whole group of people involved in the crime, but only one gets blamed. That isn’t going to reduce crime, it keeps the rest of the criminals out of jail. By law, it is the cop’s job to reduce crime and to protect everyone from harm. The government should be more strict when to come to punishments. For example, if a person has committed the same crime multiple times then that person should be in jail and not in public causing the same damage. There should be a limit to where it is acceptable to let a person free and not to let them free. Police should increase their patrolling on certain areas where there is more crime reported. This way the individuals causing trouble may stay away if they know cops are around the
