Electronic Health Record systems (EHR) are essential to amending health quality and managing health care distribution, whether in an extremely immense health system, hospital, or primary care clinic. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has developed and perpetuates to maintain a strong EHR kenned as VistA - the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture. This system was designed and developed to strengthen a high-quality medical care environment for the military veterans in the United States. The VistA system is in maintained today at hundreds of VA medical centers and outpatient clinics across the country. (http://worldvista.org/AboutVistA) VistA has a proven track record of revitalizing an immensely vast variety of clinical settings and medical care distribution systems. Facilities range from little clinics that provide solely outpatient care to generously large medical centers with paramount inpatient populations and their associated specialties, such as surgical care or dermatology. These systems consume on clinically relevant record keeping that is improving patient care by improving clinical and administrative decision-making. Versions of this system are in active use in the U.S. Department of Defense Military Health System, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Indian Health Service, and internationally as well, e.g., Mexico - Institute Mexican del Saguaro Gregarious, and National Cancer Institute of Cairo University in Egypt. They require the fortification of the Leadership and Working Teams to implement, maintain and operate a prosperous EHR. But I do know that there are issues in the system and anything can happen. I like know that if I go to different VA clinics they can look up my information and be able to assist me.
