The Princess Bride
In the film, “The Princess Bride,” directed by Rob Reiner, it all begins with a Grandfather telling the story to his less than enthusiastic Grandson. The story opens in the country of Florin with Buttercup treating her “Farm Boy” not so well, “his name was Wesley, but she never called him that. “Very soon she realizes he loves her and she loves him in return. He sets off for America “to make his fortune across the sea.” She later finds out that he and his ship have been murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts “who never leaves captives alive.”
Scene: Humperdink castle, Prince Humperdink is announcing his bride-to-be and we find out it is the Princess Buttercup. She does not love him, but he “has the right to choose his bride.”
Next Scene: Buttercup is riding her horse through the forest and comes across three strange looking men: one short, intelligent man (Vizzini), a Spaniard (Inigo), and a giant (Fezzik). They kidnap her and Vizzini reveals that he wants to start a war with the nearby country Guilder by murdering Buttercup and leaving her on the “Guilder frontier," even though Inigo and Fezzik are not too happy with the idea they follow their orders. They sail away on a ship, but soon realize they are being followed by a ship that is gaining on them. He also follows them to the Cliffs of Insanity. When they reach the top, Vizzini has Inigo stay behind to kill the man following them (the Man-in-Black) because he (Inigo) is a master swordsman. When the Man-in-Black reaches the top of the cliffs, Inigo reveals he wants revenge on a man with six fingers who killed his father. Inigo and the Man-in-Black find they have a mutual respect for each other, but they must duel and the Man-in-Black wins, but does not kill Inigo.
Vizzini sees that the Man-in-Black is still following them, so he has Fezzik stay behind to kill him. They wrestle and again the Man-in-Black wins, but he does not kill Fezzik. Then he confronts Vizzini, they have a Battle of Wits, and of course the Man-in-Black wins again. From there, he grabs Buttercup and they run off.
Meanwhile, Prince Humperdink has been following them with his friend Count Rugen.

...ess than two hours. There are two types of people in this world: those who love “The Princess Bride” and those who have yet to see it. The acting is wonderful. The roles are typecast superbly, and the content has no political statements or current affair ties.
The lack of ties will set this movie comfortably for years to come among the favorite of families everywhere. (dehm, Phantome Noire.) On the website, About.com, Ben Miller writes up a college student’s “Must See Movie” list. The Princess Bride ranks number twenty-six on that list. Another reason I think this movie is so incredibly wonderful is because it shows that no matter what obstacles two people face in life “True Love” will always prevail.

“As you wish,” said by the Farm boy, westley, a main character who ties the story of love, romance, and action together. The book The Princess Bride by William Goldman is a story of two lovers, Buttercup and Westley. After Westley dies on a boat by The Dread Pirate Roberts, the King of Florin, Prince Humperdinck, started searching for love. After a visit from the count and countess they decide that Buttercup is worthy of being the queen. Even though Buttercup says she will never love The Prince, she still agrees to the marriage. Soon after Buttercup is introduced to Florin she gets kidnapped by the Turk, the Sicilian, and the Spaniard. They all figure out that they are being followed by the man in black, which leads to the adventure part of the story. In The Princess Bride, William Goldman uses many different archetypes like the damsel in distress, the task, and the magic weapon which are archetypes that have been used for centuries and renders them new to make the story flow together and more interesting.
Most people would expect a princess to be clean, beautiful, and proper. Buttercup, especially in the beginning of this book, does not fit that description of a princess. She hates bathing or doing any sort of grooming, and her favorite activities include riding her horse and
Cast is important, but a good plot is crucial in the success of a film. So many movies have had great marketing and bombed because the plot was not good. I hate when I go to see a movie and the plot is not interesting. If I pay money for a movie, I want it to be worth it. In a comedy, I look for, a lot of, laughs. That is exactly what this movie gave me, it had it all. They had midgets, catching wives in bed with preachers and anything else you could look for to make you laugh. To fulfill this requirement on my movie list is very important. This movie did just that and exceeded the expectations I had for it.
Satire criticises and makes fun of the norms of human society. It adds an intellectual humour along with the archetypes that is present in the story. In The Princess Bride, by William Goldman, satire is in a wide variety of parts in the story from the communication between others to the character themselves including the Spaniard, Inigo Montoya. The author portrays Inigo as a Spaniard who becomes a fencer to seek revenge on the six-fingered man for the murder of his father, Domingo Montoya and he becomes a henchman to the criminal Vizzini. He is a very caring man to people he cares about, but he can only act on vengeance since he truly loves his father. With his attention only on reprisal, it can blind him from achieving the results he wants and that can significantly affect his personality as he is driven by it. When he finds the six-fingered man, he prepares after many years of training with famous fencers and even has a saying that he plants in his brain so that it is the driven force of vengeance. He is the ‘evil figure with an ultimately good heart’ archetype as he is a part of Vizzini’s group with Fezzik, but he has a change in heart that he needs Westley’s help to storm the castle. Although Inigo is a prestigious fencer who only cares about revenge, the author plays with satirical devices that portray the faults and weaknesses of his characteristics while maintaining his status as the best swordsman in his generation.

...and the prince behind. This movie from afar seems like a different type of romance movie, but more analysis into it and there are noticeable similarities many with other movies.

Even when she believes that Wesley is dead, she is set on loving only him for the rest of her life. Humperdinck’s proposal obviously comes with an unspoken threat of death, for there would be no other reason for Buttercup to accept the idea so readily. The light pink and gold shade of the dress we see her in at the marriage announcement hints at her close relationship with the royal family. While still keeping her innocence in some ways, the lighter shade of what is really just red, bonds her with the people standing at the tower above the crowd. The iconic red tunic dress that Buttercup wears for a lot of the story is the exact same shade the prince is wearing in the story before. This allows the audience to make the connection when they see the panning shot of her making her way outside of the main city. As the wedding between Buttercup and Humperdinck gets closer to happening, Buttercup’s clothing changes drastically. Alone, she wears her flowing tunic dress, that while red, allows her room to move. Once she is back in the castle, she wears lots of cooler shades. Blues and creams make up a majority of her wardrobe, right up until we see her in the final dress; her wedding dress. Constantly mixing together the royal shades with whites and creams symbolises her innocence despite being pulled into the world of the evil royal family. While wearing the red dress she is the object of desire for all of the men
Buttercup, of course, didn’t pay any attention and so was the object of the boys’ obsession. The village girls didn’t like her because they couldn’t catch husbands while she was around, so it’s probably safe to say that the village girls were happy whenever she got married to Humperdinck. However, the girls at least talked to her and nodded to her while she was in the village. They didn’t completely loathe her.
In The princess Diaries 2, Princess Mia graduates from college, and moves to Genovia to live in a palace with her grandmother in order to take her place as queen. On Mia’s twenty-first birthday, she is obligated to dance with all the eligible bachelors, and at her birthday “ball”, she meets Nicholas. Mia and Nicholas have an encounter where they seem the “fall in love at first sight”. After her birthday, Mia learns about a law that is enforced in Genovia that requires her to get married before she can take her place as queen, and at the same time she finds out that Nicholas is trying to steal the crown from her. Mia finds a man named Andrew that she wants to marry, but when it comes time to get married Mia backs out and makes a motion to veto the law that forces her to get married. In the end, Mia becomes queen without having to marry, and her grandmother ends up marrying the love she always wanted.
Adventure, true love, death, and a malevolent antagonist are all parts of an exciting fairytale. The Princess Bride incorporates all these qualities into a spellbinding story enjoyable for all readers. Buttercup and Westley are two characters in love with each other. They became separated and go on exciting adventures to reunite again. Torture, death, kidnapping, threats, injury, and suicide attempts don't stop their love. In the end, true love always prevails. Although it looks like true love cannot survive in the beginning of The Princess Bride, facts and events that happen throughout the story proves it otherwise.
...amily she finds the true meaning of being brave and saves her family (“Brave”). I like this kind of movie instead of a man being the brave and independent one now the woman is. These are the kind of fairy tales that need to be told so that women do not feel the need to be weak and dependent on other people. If fairy tales slowly become more realistic then I think they are a good thing but teaching women to not be strong or if their not a size 0 and gorgeous, well that in my eyes is not okay.

Overall this film was exciting to watch and was good to help learn a little about the Elizabethan Era. Although the goriness is too much for someone who is sensitive to that kind of thing, you can still enjoy the movie. The costumes are eccentric, the set design is, although outdated, extremely detailed, and was a good movie if you were looking for something to watch and enjoyed a little bit of history in your life.
