Functions of Management
In this paper I will discuss the four functions of management, planning, organizing, leading and controlling. I will define and detail how these functions are used in my career. Although this does not fully define how management works, it certainly is a good platform to start.
Planning
Planning, or delivering strategic value, means to specify goals to achieve, and deciding in advance appropriate actions needed to achieve the goals. This is a vital part of any management environment. Someone once told me that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Without proper planning and goal setting, there is no set standard to attain. This is a very important starting point to any management function.
In working in information technology with the government, I find that there is a constant need to plan for future events. One reason is funding, and another is upgrading the mass quantity of equipment at the same time. Since we really don not sell anything, there is no reason to look to other markets or come up with any selling strategy. Most of the planning in information technology is about where the money is going to go.
Organizing
Organizing is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. Once goals are set, things must be organized properly to make sure all goals are met. Resources must be allocated, job responsibilities must be specified and conditions must be ...
First, there is substantial evidence throughout the play that implies Hamlet and Ophelia have the opportunity to have sexual intercourse.
We know that Ophelia is torn between two conflicting extremities. Polonius and Laertes believe that Hamlet would use her, that he would take her virginity and throw it away because she could never be his wife. Her heart has convinced her that Hamlet loved her, though he swears he never did. To her father and brother, Ophelia is the eternal virgin, the vessel of morality whose purpose is to
Two of Ophelia’s difficulties arise from her father and brother. They believe that Hamlet is using her to take her virginity and throw it away because Ophelia will never be his wife. Her heart believes that Hamlet loves her although he promises he never has (“Hamlet” 1). Hamlet: “Ay, truly, for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty from what it is to a bawd than the force of honesty can translate beauty into his likeness. This was sometime a paradox, but not the time gives it proof. I did love you once.” Ophelia: “Indeed, my lord, you made me believe so.” Hamlet: “You should not have believed me, for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock ...
Strategic planning is a process to provide direction and meaning to day-to-day activities. It examines an organization's values, current status, and environment, and relates those factors to the organization's desired future state, usually expressed in five- to ten-year time periods. The organization may be a program, school, school district, public or private agency, or any other institution that wishes to control its future.
As per Henry Mintzberg, former president of the Strategic Management Society, “strategy cannot be planned because planning is about analysis and strategy is about synthesis. Strategic planning involves a structure or framework, a set of procedures both formal and informal, and of course content. Beyond these basic elements, the underlying assumptions about strategic planning are that the future can be anticipated, forecasted, managed or even controlled, and that the best way to do so is to have a formal and integrated plan about it in place. The process of planning itself may turn out to be more important than the results, and that process requires both analysis and synthesis. Planning simply introduces a formal “discipline” for conducting long-term thinking about an institution, and for recognizing opportunities in and for minimizing risks from the external and internal environments.
Ophelia loves Hamlet; her emotions drive her to perform her actions. Some would say that Ophelia’s emotions could have actually been what ended her young
Successfully running a business or organization requires mastering the four primary functions of managing. The four functions of management are planning, organization, leading and controlling. I manage a flourishing online shoe store (www.myhoodjapan.com), and each of these functions is important to my stores success. This paper will define the functions, and will explain how each relates to my Organization.
Another significant female character is Ophelia, Hamlet's love. Hamlet's quest for revenge interferes with his relationship with Ophelia. There is much evidence to show that Hamlet loved her a great deal, but his pretense of madness drove her to her death. Ophelia drowned not knowing what was happening to her. This can be deduced by the fact that she flowed down the river singing and happy when in truth she was heartbroken. Ophelia was very much afraid when she saw Hamlet "with his doublet all unbraced; No hat upon his head; his stockings foul'd, Ungarter'd, and down-gyved to his ancle" (Act #. Scene #. Line #). She described him as being "loosed out of hell" (Act #. Scene #. Line #). In addition to that he scared her when he left the room with his eyes still fixed on her. She is especially hurt when Hamlet tells her that he no longer loves her and that he is opposed to marriage. He advises her to go to a nunnery and avoid marriage if she can.
According to Reed and Bogardus (2012), strategic planning is “the systematic way of setting the direction for an organization and developing tactics and operational plans to ensure its success” (pg. 111). Strategic planning is a behavioral science and can be described as an organization’s process of forecasting organizational strategies for what it hopes to achieve and how to g o about achieving their desired outcomes (Darvish and Zahra, 2014) . It is an effective process for determining goals and helping the organization’s management team to focus on what it is they ultimately want to achieve. Organizations use strategic planning as a control mechanism as well, for the purpose of deciding and the implementation of its strategies. Additionally, strategic planning identifies with the organization strategies to improve the bottom line. There are no set ways to plan because planning depends on the organization’s objectives, culture, and current situation/s....
Planning is determining organizational goals and a means for achieving them. Planning is also the best way to improve the performance. It can encourage people to work harder to achieve the goals. So, the planning is very important and you must have the clear plan for your business. For example, Google which is the high technology firm that makes money from selling search-based Internet advertising, but Google says that it is not in the advertising business, but in the business of organizing the world’s information. Even though Google spent $1.65 billion in purchasing of YouTube to adhere to the business, but with YouTube, Google now helps users access and organize video content. The objective of Google is to organize the world’s
Planning is the process of finding out and establishing strategies for achieving the organization’s objectives, and developing plans on how to accomplish them, and then finally, coordinate the work.
Climate change can be solved once we are willing to adopt certain changes to our everyday lives. In our society, the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and the nations decaying infrastructure, are all reasons as to why climate change has become such a subject of great importance. If we are able to change these three parts of our society we can help the environment and slow down the gradual changes of our climates.
Strategic planning implies establishing in advance what an individual or organization wants to achieve within a specified timeframe and deriving ways on how to achieve that. A strategic plan is basically a course of action that is used to attain desired results. It means anticipating the future and having measures on how to grow into the future. Technology is a macroeconomic factor that is rapidly growing and changing. Technology has had positive effects all over across the globe to business organization and to individuals.
Strategic planning has a focus on stabilizing the current environment, and it also support the organization's business plans and goals. Strategic planning helps to implement new projects, new technology, consolidation of data centers, data warehouses, exponential data growth, cost of ownership, and resources available in an organization to assess the future requirements. Strategic planning analyzes the business plan, potential blockage or other issues in the current architecture, processes and their implementation in new initiatives, and processes. Strategic planning helps to formulate the ideas about the key factors that are affecting the present and future development of the organization and the opportunities offered by the environment and the competence of the organization.
A manager has four principal functions or duties of management. These include; the process of planning, organizing and leading an organizations human, financial, material, and others resources to increase its effectiveness. (George & Jones, 2005)
