Ralph Waldo Emerson states in The Poet the question, which is what is the poet? He says that all men express their feelings, but what makes a poet is that he has more ability to express his own. For example, a poet would express the beauty of nature well, while men who are less expressive cannot give nature the worth it should be given, related to reality of course.
A poet would talk, as well about “the common wealth” not “his own wealth”. What is meant by that is that he does not only convey his own feelings and his own experience in life, but he carries the beauty of truth he sees with his art, and mostly the beauty the poet would see is in nature. In page 374, you will find all the details that have been explained before.
His idea of a poet is not wrong at all. He reminds me so much ...
During the Transcendental period in American Literature, individualism was the basis of writing in this time. There were many authors who wrote about individualism and they include Ralf Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. A write of our time, Garrison Keillor, also writes about the importance of being an individual.
"Drunk with melody, and what the words were, he cared not." This was a very common view among early commentators about Dylan Thomas (Cox 1). Thomas was a poet who was either loved or hated. It depended on the individual, and how they viewed his poetry. He was very famous for his poetry because it contained visions of life, aspects of birth and death, fear, grief, joy, and beauty. At a younger age, Thomas was a very violent poet. As he grew older, he spoke for all men greatly when he wrote. He wrote his poems referring to the qualities and sensations of life. The strength of feelings, which were expressed in his writings, gave many different impressions about Thomas’ attitudes toward religion and spirituality, relationships, and the passion in his poetry.
Edgar Allan Poe once said, “I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty”("BrainyQuote"). Poe has been known for his fantastic and eerie short stories, but he also wrote poetry. In fact, it was poetry that started his career. Throughout Poe’s life, poetry was a big part of him, and with his passion he created great works like “The Raven”. With Poe’s life story, poetic vision, and great poems, he has changed the literary world forever.
Not many individuals see what nature is able to do because they do not take the time to understand nature. People who are able to understand nature and understand life relationships are called transcendentalists. Some famous transcendentalists are Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman. These transcendentalists transformed their ideas into poems that were not like any regular poems. Nature has a big effect on individuals because it reveals the truth, lets individuals see who they really are, and helps with an individual’s personal life.
Throughout America in the 1830's, the religious and literary philosophy of Transcendentalism flourished. This period of time is difficult to describe in a simple definition, but the general ideas are expressed through poetry, essays and books of these three talented Transcendental authors; Ralph Waldo Emerson, Walt Whitman, and Henry Thoreau. From Emerson's dramatic expressions of thinking for one’s self and not conforming, to Whitman's belief of living stress free and experiencing life, to Thoreau's explanation of the purpose of sucking the marrow out of life and constant reminder of simplicity; the writing of these free thinking authors with these ideas show the overall meaning of Transcendentalism. The lessons of the Transcendental era are expressed in the modern day movie Dead Poet's Society directed by Peter Wier. As a literature professor at Welton Academy, a preparatory school for boys, Mr. Keating has rather unorthodox methods of teaching which include interactive lessons to inspire his students to learn. Rather than a normal class of reading from books and writing essays, Mr. Keating taught life lessons which are different from your average lecture. The storyline of the film focuses on one class composed of boys who are on their 4th and final year of education at this academy. Mr. Keating is successful in teaching all the boys the ideas of Emerson, Whitman and Thoreau during his period of time as their literature teacher. This teachers class changed the boys perspective on life forever, which is more than what most high school students can say from their ed...
Emerson’s Eloquence written in 1870 doctrines that any man that can speak can sing. It is an art form that has the ability to move the people. The article highlights Emerson’s belief that the mastery of the art of literature is not focused on one’s ability to dominate but to propagate. “Hence, him we call an artist who can play on an assembly of men as a master on the keys of the piano, - who, seeing the people furious, shall soften and compose them, shall draw them, when he will, to laughter and to tears” (Hanlon, 74). I believe that Emerson was really confirming that a true author is an artist, who is able to convey a point in a clear and moving way. The article also discusses Emerson’s interpretation of Plato’s definition of rhetoric to be “the art of ruling the minds of men” (Hanlon, 74). The compilation of those quotes gives me the understanding that Emerson has established or has at least had the ability to control the emotions of readers and listeners through the art of literature.
Both of the authors, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Emily Dickinson represent similar opinions through different types of writing. Emerson himself is more extrinsic while Dickinson represents herself motivated intrinsically. Moreover, both of the authors are inspired from different sources; Emerson finds himself inspired from the outside world, while Dickinson’s inspiration comes from an unknown force within her body. Emerson represents and shows masculinity in his writings while using fierce language, while on the other hand Dickinson represents a feminine side. Even though both of authors convince us in a way that they are very different from each other while we look at their theories and writings, but in the end we find their faith very similar. I will argue ambiguities that are found on their writings toward faith and their rejection of religious authority.
“To be awake means to be alive”, and to be awake during the time of Romanticism meant one could witness literature as an intellectual achievement. Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Walt Whitman were three authors during this time that wrote about an idea that would later become the theme of many papers, discussions and lectures, Wakefulness. Though some may not have recognized the significance of these authors’ work at the time, their ideas and beliefs have captivated the minds of many people. Wakefulness, the idea of intellectual exertion throughout everyday life is essential to becoming self-reliant, creating a more intellectual and better community, and becoming closer to god.
The speed in which the mail is transported is an important factor in sending mail by either E-mail or the postal system. E-mail easily has the leading edge in this field. With a click of a button, a message can be sent and received in a few seconds to several minutes. Whether you are sending E-mail to someone next door or across the world, the time it takes to send the message is usually the same. Data files can be easily sent to someone over E-mail; unfortunately, the larger the file is in size, the longer it will take to send and receive the E-mail. Data files can be mailed to people using the postal system if the data is copied to a floppy disk or a compact disc. The postal service can send any kind of package, from a simple letter to a computer, for a price depending on its size weight, and desired shipping speed. The speed of the postal service is a problem though. A single letter can ta...
Transcendental, and therefore pantheist, views run fluidly throughout Emerson's texts, especially as he attempts to define his image of the perfect poet in his essay, The Poet. He continually uses religious terms to express his feelings, but warps these terms to fit his own unique spirituality. This technique somewhat helps to define his specific religious views which mirror the view of transcendentalism and pantheism. Emerson's ideal poet is a pantheist who can express the symbols of the world through words.
...ody can write a poem so unique that it makes the reader think into what the poet means. This journal showed me that every author has different qualities and that no one writes the same way and that Robert Frosts has a lot of power in some areas and lacks power in others.
One wrong step and some 15 years girl get pregnant. One wrong step and the society will mark you as the anathema. Still the teenage pregnancy is prominent aspect of many different countries in this world Teenage pregnancy means that some female is under age of 20 years when her pregnancy period is just ending. It is a serious issue which cannot be ignored both in developed as well as undeveloped countries. It creates great difficulties for teenage women. More than 50% of women cannot imagine problems which would affect their own lives. The baby born to the teenage mother has risk of the low birth weight risk of the pre-maturity and the risk of anemia along with other health issues to mother and child, mother suffers because of her body is not developed for supporting another life. In most of cases baby develops weakness and laziness that prevails throughout their lives.
In conclusion teen pregnancy has hard an effect on society, in many ways. Most teen pregnancies were not planned. CFOS says that about 65% of teen pregnancy's were not even discussed with their sexual partners. All of the other percentage of teen pregnancy's were not planned either, but it had been discussed with the teen's sexual partner at some point in time. Most teens began having sex without knowing the consequences. Teenagers need to take responsibility and remember to keep safe, because there are various ways to prevent teen pregnancy, for example abstinence, sex education, and various types of birth control; because these methods are available children should not be brought into this world mistakenly.
As time goes on, teen pregnancy is becoming more and more common throughout the world. So many people frown upon this whole idea. Such people act as if the teenage parents’ world is going to come to an end. Although these kids’ life is going to be making a big turn, there are many of them who are mature enough to take on the responsibilities of a baby.
In conclusion, I am a contextualist thinker/perceiver of the world. Poetry is of the most mysterious and wonderful pieces of literature, in my opinion, because it allows your mind to reach into the depth of your soul and express emotion and truth through passion.
