The Behavioral Assessment System for Children, Second Edition was written by Cecil R. Reynolds and Randy W. Kamphaus. The BASC-2 was published in 2004 by Pearson. The manual is currently priced at $102 and can be purchased online. The BASC-2 is qualified under level B. This means that it may be purchased by an individual with a master’s degree in psychology, education, occupational therapy, social work, or any field closely related to assessment and formal training it the ethical administration, scoring, and interpretation. AN individual who has certification in a professional organization that requires training and experience in the area of assessment. An individual who has a degree or license to practice in the healthcare field. Lastly an individual with formal, supervised training specific to assessing children.
Portsmouth Infants and Toddlers endured a significant budget cut during SY18. Consequently, funding had to be reallocated to elimination or decrease needed direct services and system operations line items. Specifically, $11,725 dollars was reallocated from Occupational and Physical Therapy to Speech Therapy. The demand for speech has increased dramatically; however, OT and PT are still needed in Portsmouth.
Developmental psychopathology is “the field that uses insights into typical development to understand, and remediate developmental disorders”. (Stassen, Berger, 2012, pg. 337) There are four general principles of developmental psychopathology that need to be accentuated. 1). When an abnormality is normal. Sometimes most children will act strangely, making it seem like children have a serious disorder, when they actually are just like everyone else. 2). Disability changes year by year. When there is one or more problem that is evident in the same person their disorder is comorbid. The particular disorder and the degree of impairment is most disabling. 3). Will life be better or worse in adulthood? Getting a prognosis is very difficult.
Psychologists don’t each approach dysfunctional behavior the same way and there are seven approaches used to explain and treat dysfunctional behavior; these approaches include biological, behavioral, psychodynamic, cognitive, humanistic, sociocultural and diathesis-stress (Boyd, n.d.).
One strategy that I recommend for reading interventions in the school setting is partner reading. During partner reading, students read together and take turns reading the text so that one student reads and the other follows and vice versa. The teacher could pair the struggling reader with a high-level reader which will benefit the struggling reader as they follow the high-level reader. Another strategy that I recommend for the school setting is called listening centers. During listening centers, the reader will read along to a text at their instructional level while the text is being read aloud to them by the teacher or a tape. Both of those strategies will model reading to the struggling reader and help them improve their fluency and reading skills (Tompkins, 2014). Furthermore, working on the child’s reading abilities is crucial in the home setting in order to encourage reading outside of school. A reading strategy that parents could use is read aloud. Parents could read aloud to their children every night in order to model fluency. In the case the parents are busy or unable to read to the child daily, they could simply use audiobooks application such as Audible that is available in most mobile devices that will read books aloud to the
Communication and Collaborative among educators and parents can increase the child’s reading skills. It is the educators and parent’s job to find effective strategies that promote children’s reading. By working together, students will achieve more in educational life and it will be the greatest memories for teachers and parents to celebrate. Reading build up everything we write learn in other content areas such as science, math, and so forth. If children cannot read, their educational life will not succeed and reading performance fall below grade level. Providing reading skills in the early age of children will encourage them to read and succeed throughout their educational life.
Behavior means the way that someone behaves. Then, modification is the small change to something or the process of changing something slightly, especially to improve it. So, behavior modification means the slightly change of behavior in order to improve it through the present of positive or negative reinforcement. Furthermore, behavior modification also can be manipulated through the punishment as well. On the other hand, behavior modification is a set of techniques that underline with instrumental conditioning (Skinner,1938, 1953). Besides that, behavior modification also include reinforcement and punishment in order to strengthen the desired behavior or to terminate the undesired behavior (Skinner, 1938, 1953).
In order for students to see themselves as reader, the students will work with various aspects of reading instruction. These four informative formats, word recognition, directions cards, picture/phrase cards, and story book, students are exposed to a specific set of words in a errorless situation in order to develop the phonemic awareness skills needed to become a successful
In conclusion, providing ways to promote and develop a skill as simple as reading has opened up my eyes as a person who had no problems learning. I believe that both studies will be not be relevant to my career, but made me aware of such an issue. Despite the fact, im not going to be a special education teacher, this review will help other teachers or special education teachers to gain knowledge on ways to enhance the LD students intellectual. Not to disregard, mothers will also benefit from this review when teaching their children.
Today we are addressing Jammie’s inappropriate behavior in class. Jammie has outburst in class which disrupts the class. Jammie will fall to the floor and scream just to avoid answering questions in class. Jammie will do this during quiet time as well when the students are trying to study for the quiz. The other children are trying to learn but with the distraction of Jammie it is hard to pay attention. My theory is that Jammie does not like to be in class after she has lunch, I feel that she is getting exhausted of class and realizes that school is almost out. I feel that Jammie thinks she will not have to participate in class if she sits out in the hallway.
Ben is an 11-year-old boy who was referred to me by a teacher to assist with his reluctance to attend school. Ben has missed 20 days of school in 2 months and often goes to the nurse’s office and has left school due to feeling “sick”. Ben was check at by a pediatrician, and there are no medical problems that can explain his difficulties. Ben has a very close relationship with his mother, and sleeps in his mother’s bed every night. He avoids activities that would include him interacting with other kids his age, because of his separation anxiety from his mother. Ben’s mother showers with, dresses and undresses him.. She also grooms his hair because she claims it’s difficult to manage because of tangles. Ben is fully capable of self-care in areas
Guiding children’s behaviour is an essential aspect of educating or caring for young children. The two biggest challenges that children normally experiences at their young age are ability to control their own behaviour and understanding acceptable behaviour (Australian Government, 2006). This paper describes about the case study of 4 years old girl Ashley’s inappropriate behaivour problems (e.g., getting disappointment, impatient and refusing to accept the failure), difficulties in following instruction, and physical aggression (e.g., kicking and punching other children) which are common in preschool (Conway, 2009). The below information portrays about the behvioural framework, effective strategies, plans, intervention and, theories to support
Behavior Modification and it Application to a Variety of Behaviors Within in an Educational Setting
Case studies are a collection of data obtained using various methods gathered on an individual or group to record areas of interest in order to assist with analysis and provide recommendations. The study should include the name of the person, although this should be protected to provide anonymity where appropriate, and a brief description of the subject. The setting where the study is to be performed should be included. The aim of the observation must be presented along with a report of the findings. The type of method used will depend upon the subject and the area of interest. Data is gathered on the subject in this case observations were used to provide the data. An interpretation of the study will be made in order to provide a conclusion and recommendations made if applicable. Freud famously used the case studies that he carried out on his patients to develop his Psychoanalytic Theory.
Today, most contemporary organizations utilize major human behavior theories to be competitive amongst other organizations. However, it is important to discuss not only the theories themselves, but it is imperative to understand the associated communication implications in regards to each theory. Altogether, human behavior theories focus on the how individuals are influenced, what inspires them, and how that inspiration and motivation ultimately influences the organization. Thus, when it comes to human behavior theories, there are several ideas that seek to explain and rationalize human behavior in regards to organizations.
